“Orbital” is Nico Stephou’s multidisciplinary project in which he creates sounds out of shapes. By creating a family of symbols, he proposes a language. These symbols are translated into records, one record for each. The combination of these symbols lead to sound-sentences. By playing four of them at the same time on a quadraphonic sound system, the artist creates a sonic image of this graphical conversation. The performance at Thkio Ppalies on the 30th of November 2017, will last for three hours. The crowd will be able to walk in and out of the space at any time as the atmosphere is intended for meditation.
Nico Stephou is a graphic designer and a multidisciplinary artist. Graduate of ‘Graphic Design Department’ at Gerrit Rietveld Academie he is now working on identities, printed matter, digital projects and visual research. As an art-director he is also working for multiple foundations, record labels. He has co-founded the community platform and record label Honest Electronics and the yearly festival “The Gathering”. As a self-taught electronic music producer, he has accomplished releases on various compilations of labels like Low Income $quad (Croatia), Memory No.36 Records (U.S.A.), SEAGRAVE (U.K.), an album release on Speaker Footage (Denmark) and his recent EP on Honest Electronics. www.nicostephou.com
