Following to the concept of using local materials, the s truc ture hos ts a variety of cour tyards o p e n t o s k y a s w e l l a s p a r t l y e n c l o s e d p r o v i d i n g d i f fe r e n t s p a t i a l e x p e r i e n e s a s o n e n a v i g a t e s t h e b l o c k . B y w e a v i n g t h e l a n d s c a p e i n t o t h e b u i l t fo r m , t h e A r c h i t e c t u r e s t r i v e s t o i n t e g r a t e the “ built “ and “ unbuilt” into a single experience.

This common burnt brick is usually pleasing to look at with warm colours ranging from cream, through orange sandy colours to brown and even blue brown. When built into a wall, pleasing and interes ting s i m p l e p a t t e r n s a p p e a r. The REVEAL. The entrance to the campus is ver y sombre in appearance with an exposed random rubble compound wall and veget ation. A single ramp direc ts the visitor to the main reception block w h i c h i s m a r ke d by i t s i c o n i c i nve r te d c o u p l e c l o s e d ro o f .

UNWIND CO N N E C T Fo r m i n g t h e m a i n s p i n e o f t h e campus, the bridge connects d i f fe r e n t e l e m e n t s o f t h e r e s o r t . P r o v i d i n g d i f fe r e n t e x periences along the path, the elevated parametric bamboo bridge is woven with landscape and wooden planks mark the m a i n p a t h w a y.

A thatched roof once held free men; under marble and gold dwells slavery.

- Seneca Thatch is a natural insulator, and the air pockets within a straw thatch roof insulate the building in both warm and cold weather. A thatched roof will ensure that a building will be cool in summer and warm in winter.

Thatched roof with an exposed bamboo framework includes landscape in between t h a t fo r m s a b a r r i e r b e t w e e n the walkway and the dining hall.

Bamboo is flexible, bending with the wind but never breaking and capable of adapting to any circumstance. It suggests resilience, meaning that we have the ability to bounce back even from the most difficult times. Your ability to thrive depends in the end, on your attitude towards your life circumstances. Take everything in stride with grace, putting forth energy when it is needed, yet always staying calm inwardly.

RISE RE - T H I N K The bund, inspired by the t r a d i t i o n a l b u n d s fo u n d i n between paddy fields,the “varambu” or the bund curves it s way around the cott ages.

With lush green shrubs/coconut trees along it s way and fo l l o w i n g Ke r a l a ’s t r a d i t i o n a l methods of construction, it fo r m s a n i n t e g r a t p a r t o f t h e o v e r a l l j o u r n e y.

The medit ation hall / view deck overlooking the river and the adjacent bridge doubles as a ver tical fa r m t o h a r v e s t l o c a l p r o d u c e f u r t h e r j u s t i f y i n g t h e n e e d fo r a r c h i t e c t u r e t h a t n a t u r a l l y a g e s a n d seamlessly blends into its surroundings.

There are no happier people on this planet than those who decide that they want something, define what they want, get hold of the feeling of it even before its manifestation and then joyously watch the unfolding as, piece by piece by piece, it begins to unfold. Designed with thatched roofs and bamboo decks, complete privacy is ensured by providing lush green landscape between each individual cott age / boat. Each cott age has an unobs truc ted view of the adjoining river that renders a sense of freedom and det atchment from ever ything in the “ outside “ world.
