tMHFA SCHOOL PROGRAM NEWSLETTER

WELCOME!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our inaugural tMHFA newsletter. We trust it will be a valuable resource for fostering regular communication. Each month, we will provide essential program updates, details on upcoming trainings, and showcase achievements from our school programs. We encourage you to distribute this newsletter within your school community.

Designated by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing to teach tMHFA since 2021.

YMHFA PREREQUISITE

Please ensure that at least 10% of staff in your school building are certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). This certification is valid for 3 years.

IMPORTANT: If you haven't already done so, please review your training records and confirm with us that you meet this requirement.

As part of the 10% requirement, we recommend at least one school adminstrator, a counselor and the homeroom teacher(s) be certified in YMHFA. For your convenience, we have two upcoming YMHFA trainings available especially for school staff. These sessions are free of charge, include lunch, and offer 7 CEUs.

INSIDE THIS ISSUE

Alternatively, if you prefer to host the training onsite at your school, please contact us. Thank you for addressing this important prerequisite.

NEW! APPROVED FOR 9TH GRADERS

We are happy to announce that tMHFA is now approved for grades 9-12. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing made this change after extensive nationwide feedback and reviewing best practices from school-based mental health programs.

Since most schools in the 2B CONTINUED school program currently offer tMHFA to 10th graders, we are offering a transitional period by expanding tMHFA to both 9th and 10th graders over the next 1-2 school years, for any school that would like the course to be delivered to this lower grade level. This approach ensures continuity without missing any students or skipping any grades.

Please contact us to discuss a customized implementation plan at your school.

VIRTUAL STAFF & PARENT SESSIONS

This year, 2B CONTINUED will offer online information sessions for both staff and parents. Staff and parents from all participating schools will have several date/time options to choose from. Though they will not be school specific, staff sessions and parent sessions will still be held separately. Exact dates/times are being finalized and will be announced in our August Newsletter. Feel free to provide us with suggested dates/times that might work well for your school community.

In-person sessions tailored to your school community are still available upon request. 2B CONTINUED is required to offer these sessions before the delivery of the first tMHFA class at your school each year. Attendance is optional for staff and parents; however, we strongly encourage participation.
