Hello there! Welcome to my August Newsletter! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. The summer is almost over which means school is back in session. Start reaching out to your other officers to plan for the fall, whether that be elections, events, etc. Also coming up the YOF which is the Youth Opportunities fund will be available in the Fall. Service Spotlight
Division 3 Justin Harper Webmaster of Ward Melville Key Club I am Justin Harper, Webmaster of Ward Melville Key Club and I wanted to share an amazing event that the thirst project hosted. On July 15th and July 16th, I went to an action packed event which lasted from 1pm-6pm each day. On the first day we had an opening session where Evan Wesley and the founder of the thirst project opened the event up, instructing us on how the day and the following day would run. After that, Diana Nyad, the famous swimmer who persistently tried to swim from Florida to Cuba despite dangerous obstacles, finally made it on the fifth time. She told us inspirational stories about her upbringing and what motivated her to keep going despite many failures. After that I went to a workshop about the trailblazer program taught by Haley Thompson, which informed us about the water crisis we are having and it gives young adults the opportunity to go to different communities to speak about the ongoing water crisis happening around the world! Next I went to a workshop taught by Sashee Chandra, founder
& CEO of Tea Drops, she ran a
minority owned business and talked about the patience she had to have in developing her business. She talked about how she successfully built her company ground up through marketing and networking. Being a minority, it inspired me to see the potential in things I could do in the future. The last part of the day was a leadership workshop where I heard from a panel of business owners about different leadership skills that would well equip you in life. Then we closed with a musical performance and the next day Rob Dydrek talked about love, what you do and how to expand your mind to the possibilities you can have in life. He talked about if you love what you do, you will be happy in life. As well Kevin Hines talked about his inspirational story of being adopted and feeling unworthy and after attempting to commit suicide he was saved by a miracle and now advocates against suicide and later saved a girl from committing suicide. After his speech, I went to my first workshop and learned about mindfulness from Michelle Mitchell. We learned about key important ways to help your mental health on a daily basis. My last workshop was with Kellen Brewer and it was about perspective and how to get out of your comfort zone and how to start impacting and influencing others. After that there was an award ceremony and musical and dance performances and then we had closing remarks from Seth the founder of the thirst project. Overall it was a thrilling event and I would recommend you go next year!

(YOF) is a grant that you can apply for, which will be provided by Key Club International, in orderfor your club to have the opportunity to receive money for a service project. The application will open up in September. Use this link to find more info about the YOf.

Projects Key Club Supports governor's Project: The Thirst Project is one of the main international partners that Key Club is involved with and is also the Governor's Project that District Governor, Chloe Baker chose for the 2021-2022 service year. Their mission is to end the global water crisis with the support of young people. To do this, they travel to developing communities in need of clean drinking water, and build freshwater wells. Waterborne diseases kill so many children each year, and the Thirst Project is working to eliminate this.
DisTRICT PROJECT: This years District Project is Alex's Lemonade Stand! This organization aims to end pediatric cancer by spreading awareness and supporting families!
District Endorsed Projects
Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation: Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center is one of the many New York Districts Endorsed Projects. The foundation supports pediatric trauma efforts in many areas around to protect the safety of children and to improve medical services response
District Endorsed Project: Pediatric Lyme Disease FoundationThis foundation helps families and kids suffering with Lyme disease. It also helps pay for medical treatment for children with this disease. Lyme disease is usually transmitted from a deer tick and anyone can get it, even kids! That's why its important to help those who do have it because treatment is very expensive.
