In The Lonely Hour was the biggest selling UK male debut in the SoundScan era and went on to sell over 13 million adjusted albums worldwide. In 2015, Smith set a GRAMMY® record—winning a total of four awards, the most ever received by a UK artist following the release of a debut album. Smith was awarded Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and their single, “Stay With Me,” won awards for Record and Song of the Year, garnering a RIAA Diamond certification. In 2015, Smith joined the James Bond film canon when they wrote and performed “Writing’s On The Wall,” the theme song for the Bond film Spectre, winning both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award® in 2016.
Smith’s critically acclaimed third album Love Goes was released in 2020, and signaled the start of a new chapter and also reflected their two past beautiful, if not tumultuous, years. What followed was a string of singles crafted with producers whom Smith admired including Max Martin, ILYA, Shellback and Stargate. “Dancing With A Stranger,” a seductive R&B track with Normani was a critical and commercial success, as was the dance-pop hit “How Do You Sleep?” The album also included “Diamonds,” a dazzling dance floor anthem and “My Oasis,” a cross-continental collaboration with Burna Boy.
SmithSam 2022 Pioneer of the Year
Smith’s 2017 platinum-selling sophomore album, The Thrill Of It All, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and also topped international charts. “Too Good At Goodbyes,” the album’s first single, became a global smash and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart.
Multi-platinum GRAMMY®, BRIT, Golden Globe and Oscar winning artist and songwriter Sam Smith is one of the most celebrated musical artists to emerge in recent history, amassing over 40 billion career streams. Born in London in May 1992, Smith (they/them) began singing at a young age. Their first breakthrough was in 2012 as a featured artist on the Disclosure song, “Latch.” Smith’s debut album, In The Lonely Hour, soon followed in 2014. Certified 2x platinum in the USA and 8x platinum in the UK—the album earned four GRAMMY® Awards and positioned Smith as the hallmark voice of their generation.
Smith is currently at work on their fourth studio album to be released on Capitol Records in 2023.
