Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse has stunning contemporary interiors with a distinctly Thai flavor.

01 Stone

In traditional Thai architecture, stones like marble and granite were used as pavements, columns, bases, and decorative coverings.

In The Surawongse lobby, the floor is finished with smoky marble-like tiles, which adds to the oriental ambience of the place.

02 Khrung Muk Mother of pearl inlay, locally known as Khrung Muk, is imitated in the design of decorative panels as seen in the bedroom and other multi-purpose rooms.

03 Fretwork Various types of design ornaments were used in traditional Thai interiors and architecture, often seen applied in wooden lintels above doorways and in balconies' Yong. Different types of fretwork patterns are used on decorative panels in different areas within the hotel, like in the Yao Restaurant and in the guest rooms.

04 Black Lacquer While traditional designs made use of lacquer in different colors, a black lacquer look is used extensively in The Surawongse's interiors, from fretted screens, to dining chairs, to bed frames.

05 Toh The Toh is a traditional piece of furniture described as a low table, and whose shape is primarily characterized by its rectangular top and Opium legs which curl inwards towards the center of the table.

In the picture to the right, a Toh can be seen as a center table in one of the suite's living areas.

06 Textiles Thailand is well-known for traditional weaving and textiles, which are primarily made of silk, cotton, and jute.

The picture to the right shows one of the guest bedrooms in which Thai textile design is used as an area rug surrounding the bed.
