OUR COMMUNITY, LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES, AND ORGANIZATIONS and keep staff employed. To ensure your local favorite is safe, continue to patronize it any way you can: by ordering takeout, delivery, or even purchasing gift cards for future use.

In times of uncertainty, Cheyenne has always pulled together; that help is crucial to the health, well-being, and stability of our community.

Though knowing where to start can be a daunting prospect at first, here are ideas to get you going.

Volunteer. Organizations that feed and run errands for the elderly or otherwise unable are always seeking volunteers. Meals on Wheels, for instance, has said some of its programs are "desperately seeking volunteers." This can also be as simple as checking in with your elderly neighbors!

Donate money, food, or blood. If you're unable to donate your time, your local food banks are likely welcoming financial support as well as donations of canned or other non-perishable items and basic necessities. Nearby blood banks and hospitals are also in need of donations.

Patronize your local restaurants. With Cheyenne among those cities and states banning in-person dining altogether, many eateries may be left struggling to pay bills

Time and again, we see our neighbors step up to help. As the COVID-19 pandemic reached Cheyenne, for instance, an urgent need for volunteers to foster homeless pets

Support essential workers. While nonessential workers may be working from home or temporarily on leave, the essential workers who continue to trudge into work every day need our support more than ever. Medical personnel, truck drivers, drive-thru workers, supermarket staff, and delivery drivers - these folks are continuing to work for the benefit of our community.

As Wyoming responds with the promise of social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many local businesses — in addition to restaurants — have temporarily closed their doors or otherwise adapted their daily operations in answer. Organizations have cancelled or rescheduled events.

How can you help?

Buy gift cards. Many local stores are able to offer giftcards through Square, their payment portal. How does this help? Buy giftcards now, spend them later. It helps them get through these next few months and it gives you a great reason to shop local when they re-open!

Shop online…locally. Some local shops (not just restaurants!) are even offering curbside pickup! See if your favorites offer it as well. Check their Facebook pages for information.

Social Media is more than just Facebook; whatever your preferred social media venue, like, share, comment, re-tweet your favorite shop or organization's posts. Help them boost their social media engagement. The more people who engage with a post, the more folks will see their next one!

A very special part of our hearts remains the arts and service communities; Lindsey Reynolds, Executive Director of the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, has this recommendation: "If you have purchased tickets to a performance that has been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19, please consider making them a donation to the organization rather than asking for a refund. Even cancelled performances have expenses that the organization is still responsible for covering and at a time when ticket sales are sparse, every little bit can make a difference to a non-profit performing arts organization."

We can amend that statement to include service organizations who have had to cancel fundraisers during this time, as well!

"Adoptions, meanwhile, have accelerated to the point where we have nearly run out of adoptable pets."

Inspections are another tricky aspect as inspectors have so many new processes and considerations as well to create a safe environment for their craftsmen and clients as well as the current homeowners. While vacant properties make this segment more easily adaptable this is a moving target and we’re all currently navigating the best ways in baby steps. We are so thankful to have such professional service providers in this crucial area.

Appraisers have had to modify their procedures as well, yet they are getting the job done and keeping up with demand as best they can. The recent refinance trend has added to their body of work, pushing out orders a few extra weeks, but they too are finding ways to stay the course if even at a distance.

Document Signing Although this is another area that varies by state, today more portions of the transaction are being done digitally. As your agent we can do our entire process digitally and your loan officer or Title agent can set up an account where you can upload most documents along the way.

Closing Process Closing time frames have increased from the short 4-week norm to about a 6-week process. A continued robust market is still the underlying driver in our area as so many of the delays have been from an abundance of transactions, not completely due to the complications of COVID-19.

The innovation of necessity, confidence and safety are all considerations that are taken seriously in every step of the process. Early electronic delivery of closing documents to your email for easy review is more important than ever. Most title companies are conducting drive-up closings, which is similar to doing a transaction at a bank window. Simply choose your favorite parking spot and make it happen.

Interesting times create interesting solutions that make all parties comfortable and safe with the circumstance at hand.... and make for crazy stories to tell later!

Who knows where this will lead? Although these virtual processes are starting to become more widely accepted long-term solutions will no doubt continue to evolve, and buying a home may never look quite the same. While we are so grateful for the technology, we can’t wait to see our clients’ lovely faces and share an elbow bump very soon! meals we’re providing. They are operating completely separate from LCSD1 but it is great that we are all able to work together use the same service sites to provide these much-needed services to our community."

This program will remain in place, with the Smart Spoon Café continuing to serve meals until students are back in school.

It's a challenging time for everyone, and our deployed troops are no exception. Halfway around the world, apart from their families, and without the everyday comforts we take for granted, our military personnel are facing unexpected challenges as the world responds to COVID-19. With restrictions on travel and precautionary freezes on mail, many of our troops have seen a "routine" deployment become an even more trying time.

BRIE, FIG, AND ARUGULA GRILLED CHEESE

Taking comfort food to the next level, this sandwich is fresh, natural, and decadent - perfect for a weeknight!

By the time restrictions are lifted as the global crisis abates, our people on the ground are going to be near-desperate for anything from home. We want to be ready for that day, and we're asking for your help. We're collecting the following items (but feel free to think outside the box) at all three of our office locations... we'll assemble care packages and be ready to ship the second we're able.

INGREDIENTS 2 SOURDOUGH BREAD SLICES 1 TABLESPOON MAYONNAISE 2 OUNCES BRIE, SLICED THINLY 1 1/2 TABLESPOONS FIG PRESERVES 1/4 CUP LOOSELY PACKED ARUGULA

DIRECTIONS

1. Spread 1 side of each bread slice evenly with mayonnaise. Place 1 bread slice, mayonnaise side down, on a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper. Top with Brie, fig preserves, and arugula. Cover with remaining bread slice, mayonnaise side up. Place a second sheet of parchment paper or wax paper on top of sandwich, and press gently.

2. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium. Remove sandwich from bottom piece of parchment paper, leaving top piece in place, and transfer to hot skillet. Place a small, heavy skillet on top of sandwich, and press. Cook until cheese melts and bread is golden brown on bottom, about 2 minutes. Remove small skillet; turn sandwich, and cook, without pressing, until golden brown on bottom, about 2 minutes.
