TECHNICALINFORMATION
HARDWARE
GENERAL
TheBoomer8Ntractorhasbeenbuiltusingmetric hardware.
NOTICE: Besuretousethehardwarespecified whenusingtappedholes,astryingtoinstallametric boltinaninchthread,oraninchboltinametric thread,willdamagethethread.
Certainhardwaremustbetightenedtospecific torquespecifications.Ifspecifictorquespecifications arenotnoted,tightenthehardwaretothestandard torquechartspecificationlistedinthismanual.
PLATING
HardwareusedonNewHollandtractorsisplated withzincchromate(goldcolor).Goldcolored hardwarehasdifferenttorquingrequirementsfrom unplatedorzincplated(silvercolor)hardware becauseofthedifferenceinthecoefficientoffriction oftheplatingmaterial.Thetorquechartsinthis manuallistthecorrectspecificationsforgold,silver, andunplatedbolts.
NUTTIGHTENING
Wheneverpossible,thenutshouldbetightened,not theheadofthebolt.Whentighteningusingthebolt head,theclamploadcanbelostbecausesomeof thetorqueappliedtwiststheboltinsteadof tensioning(stretching)it.Thetensionontheboltis whatholdsthejointtogether.
Approximately90%ofthetorqueappliedduring assemblygoestoovercomingfrictionbetweenthe parts.Theother10%isusedtotension(stretch)the bolt.Afterassembly,thefrictionalforcesdisappear, whichisthebasisforthesayingìIfitdoesnotfail duringassembly,itwillnotfailinservice.îThebolt maylaterfailduetootherfactors,butnotfrombeing overtightened.
LOCKNUTS
Mostlocknutsarecoatedwithaspeciallubricantthat isdrytothetouch.Anytimealocknutisused,alower thannormaltorqueisrequired.Refertothetorque chartsinthismanualforspecificvalues.
JAMNUTS
Whenusingajamnuttolockaregularnut,thejam nutshouldbeinstalledfirstandtightenedtoonehalf therecommendedtorque,thenheldinplacewhile installingaregularnuttotherecommendedtorque.
THREADLUBRICATION
Theadditionofanti-seizecompound,Molykote,oil, graphite,oranyotherlubricanttoaboltdecreases thefrictionbetweenitandanut.Thismakesit necessarytoreducetherecommendedtorqueto preventovertensioningofthebolt.Whenusingthe torquechartsinthismanual,decreasethevalueby 20%wheneveralubricantisused.

WORKINGSAFELY
1.Duringthemanufacturingofthistractor,every stephasbeentakentoensuresafeoperation. However,thebestwaytoavoidaccidentsisto exercisecautionatalltimes.Oncetheaccident hasalreadyhappeneditistoolatetoremember whatstepsshouldhavebeentaken.
2.Readthismanualcarefullybeforestarting,using, carryingoutmaintenance,refuelingorperforminganyothertypeofoperationonthetractor.
3.Thetimespentreadingthismanualwillallowyou togettoknowyourtractor,therebysavingtime andeffort.Thiswillalsohelppreventaccidents fromtakingplace.
4.Readallthesafetydecalsonthemachineand followtheinstructionsthereonbeforestarting, operating,refuelingorcarryingoutmaintenance onthemachine.Promptlyreplaceanydecals thataredamaged,lostorillegible.
Cleanthedecalsiftheyarecoveredbymudor debris.
5.Rememberthatthetractorisexclusivelydesigned foragriculturaluse.Anyotherusewillrequireprior authorizationfromCNHAmericaLLC.
6.Itisadvisabletokeepafirstaidkitonhand.
7.Thetractormustonlybeusedbyresponsible personnel,trainedintractoruseandauthorized tooperatethemachine.
8.Donotaltertheinjectionsystemcalibrationinan attempttoincreasemaximumenginespeed.
9.Donotwearlooseclothingthatmaybetrapped inmovingparts.
Checkthatallrotatingpartsconnectedtothe powertake-offarecorrectlyprotected.

10.Donotalterthecalibrationofthepressurerelief valvesinthevarioushydrauliccircuits(steering, hydrauliclift,auxiliarydistributors,etc.).
11.Avoidusingthetractorinunsuitablephysical conditions,stopworkinstead.
12.Enterandleavethetractorusingthestepsand handlesprovided.Keepthesefittingsfreeofmud anddebris.
STARTINGTHETRACTOR
1.Beforestartingtheengine,checkthatthehand brakeisonandthatthetransmissionshuttleshift leverandpowertake-offaredisengaged,evenif thetractorisfittedwithastart-upsafetydevice. Neverdisconnectthestart-upsafetyswitch.Ifthe switchdoesnotworkcorrectly,contactyourlocal dealerforeventualrepairoperations.
2.Beforestartingtheengine,makesurethatall attachedimplementsareloweredtotheground.
3.Beforestartingtheengine,checkthatallcovers andguardsarecorrectlyinposition(hoodside panels,powertake-offguard,frontaxle transmissionshaftcover,etc.).
4.Neverstartormaneuverthetractorunless seatedinthedrivingposition.
5.Beforemovingthetractor,alwayscheckthatthe areaisfreeofpersonsorobstacles.
6.Neverruntheengineinaclosedspacewithout ensuringadequateventilation.Exhaustfumes aredamagingtothehealthandcanbelethal.

USINGTHETRACTOR
1.Selectthemostsuitablewheelsettingforthe workinhand,i.e.:thesettingthatprovidesthe beststability.
2.Depressthespeedcontrolpedalslowly:if engagedtooquickly,especiallywhenthetractor isgettingoutofahole,ditchoroperatingon muddygroundorsteepslopes,thetractormay overturn.
Releasethespeedcontrolpedalimmediatelyif frontwheelsbegintolift.
3.Whentravelingdownhill,keepthetractoringear. Neverplaceshuttleshiftleverintheneutral position.
4.Whenthetractorismoving,theoperatormust remaincorrectlyseatedinthedrivingposition.
5.Nevergetonoroffthetractorwhileinmovement.
6.Whenusingthebrakes,pressthepedaldown slowly.
7.Avoidtakingturnsathighspeeds.
8.Alwaysusethetractorataspeedthatwill guaranteesafeoperationonthetypeofland beingworked.Whenworkingonunevenground, usemaximumcaretoensureproperstability.
9.Ifyouhavetoworkwiththetractoronagradient, forexampleonhillsides,driveatmoderatespeed especiallywhentakingturns.

TOWINGANDTRANSPORT
1.Toguaranteetractorstabilitywhenmoving, adjustthehitchingdeviceaccordingtothetrailer orimplementtobeused.
2.Driveslowlywhentowingextremelyheavyloads.
3.Foryourownsafety,donottowtrailersthatare notfittedwithanindependent brakingsystem.
4.Ifthetractorisusedtotowheavyloads,always usethehitchingdeviceandneverhitchloads ontothelowerarmsorthetoplinkofthe three-pointlinkage.Thismayresultintippingor overturning.
5.Whentowing,donotnegotiateturnswiththe differentiallockengagedasthismaypreventyou fromsteeringthetractor.

USINGIMPLEMENTSANDAGRICULTURAL MACHINERY
1.Donotconnectimplementsormachinerythat requiremorepowerthancanbegeneratedby yourtractormodel.
2.Nevernegotiatesharpturnswiththepower take-offunderaheavyload;thismaydamagethe universaljointsonthetransmissionshaft connectedtothepowertake-off.
3.Neverstandbetweenthereversingtractorand theimplementwhenhitching.
4.Whenusingimplementsthatrequirethetractor tobestationarywiththeenginerunning,keepthe shuttleleverintheneutralposition,applythe handbrakeandusesuitablewheel chocks.
5.Donotoperatemachinesconnectedtothepower take-offwithoutfirstensuringthattheoperating rangeofthemachineisfreeofbystanders. Alsocheckthatallrotatingpartsconnectedtothe powertake-offshaftarecorrectlyprotected.
6.Addsometypeofrearballastwhenusinglifting equipmentfittedtothefrontofthetractor.Rear ballast,suchas,rearwheelweights,fluidinrear tiresor3ptweightbox.
STOPPINGTHETRACTOR
1.Whenthetractorisstationary,neverleave connectedimplementsintheraisedposition.All implementsmustbeloweredbeforestoppingthe engine.
2.Beforeleavingthedrivingposition,movethe transmissionshuttleshiftlevertotheneutral position,disengagethepowertake-off,applythe handbrakeandstoptheengine. Alwaysremovetheignitionkeyfromthe dashboardwhenleavingthetractorunattended.
3.Parkonflatsurfaces,wherepossible,putthe tractorintogearandapplythehandbrake.Asan additionalsafetymeasure,usewheelchocks (availableasanoptional);thisprocedureis compulsorywhenparkingwithatrailerhitched.

SERVICINGTHETRACTOR
