INSTALLATIONOFORFS(O-RINGFLAT FACED)FITTINGS

WheninstallingORFSfittingsthoroughlycleanboth flatsurfacesofthefittings,1,andlubricatetheO-ring, 2,withlightoil.Makesurebothsurfacesarealigned properly.Torquethefittingtospecifiedtorquelisted throughouttherepairmanual.

IMPORTANT: Ifthefittingsurfacesarenotproperly cleaned,theO-ringwillnotsealproperly.Ifthefitting surfacesarenotproperlyaligned,thefittingsmaybe damagedandwillnotsealproperly.

IMPORTANT: AlwaysusegenuineNewHolland replacementoilsandfilterstoensureproper lubricationandfiltrationofengineandhydraulic systemoils.

Theuseofproperoils,grease,andkeepingthe hydraulicsystemcleanwillextendmachineand componentlife.

INTRODUCTION

TheModels2331and2332Discbine Discheaders aredesignedtoattachtothe2330BFadaptingframe forUseontheTV140Biderectionaltractor.The2331 and2332Mower-Conditionersutilizeconstant velocity50° U-jointsoneachendofthedriveshaftfor smoothoperation,andprovidetheabilitytoliftand lowertheheadduringPTOoperation.Thedriveshaft attachestothetractorPTOandtheheadercenter gearbox.

ACVjointconsistsofadoubleU-jointassembly,with thefront,1,andrear,2,yokesconnectedtogether withamechanicalconnection.Thisensuresthatboth thefrontU-jointandrearU-jointintheassemblyis operatingatthesameangles.Byoperatingatequal angles,theCVjointprovidesaconstantvelocity outputatalloperatingangles,andeliminatesthe vibrationthatcanresultfromoperatingtheU-jointat sharpangles.

TheCVjointdegreeratingindicatesthemaximum allowableoperatingangleoftheCVU-joint. Operationatanglesexceedingthatvaluewillresult inCVjointfailure.

The50° CVjointisconstructedwithnointermediate plate.Oneyokehasaball,1,ontherearstrapofthe yoke,whiletheopposingyokehasasocket,When thejointisassembled,theballofoneyokeis engagedinthesocketoftheother.Thetwojointsare connected,andoneyokemovestheotherto maintainequalangles.

Anoverrunningclutchisinstalledonthegearbox sideofthedriveshaft.Theclutchallowstherotating equipmentoftheheadercoasttoastopwhenthe operatordisengagesthePTO.Theproperoperation oftheoverrunningclutchwillminimizeweartothe headerandtractorPTO.

The2331and2332driveshaftisequippedwithan Auto-Lokslidelock,1,whichautomaticallylatchesin therearwardpositionwhenpulledback.Theshaft maythenbeheldwithbothhandstoguideitontothe tractorshaft.Astheyokeslidesontotheshaft,the slidelockcollarspringsforwardtolatchthePTO shafttothetractor.

Asthecollarisslidrearward,ittendstotwistorcock slightlysideways,allowingashoulderinthecollar,1, tocatchonaridgeintheyoke,Astheyokeisslidonto thetractorshaft,andthepawls,3,lineupwiththe grooveonthetractorshaft,fourballs,4,intheyoke arepushedoutwardbytheendoftheshaft.These fourballscenterthecollar,causingtheshoulderto disengagefromtheridgeandthecollarsprings forwardtolockthepawlsinthetractorPTOshaft groove.

AUTO-LOKSLIDELOCK

Disassembly

1.Pulltheslidelockcollarrearwarduntilitlatches inplace.Useascrewdriverorspringpickto removetheretainingring,1,fromtheendofthe yoke.

2.Slidethecollar,1,offtheyoke,andremovethe spring,2,fromtheyokebarrel.

NOTE: Thespringisinterferencefit,andwillhaveto beworkedofftheyokebarrel.

3.Removethepawls,3,byreachingintotheyoke boreandpushingthepawlsoutwards,sothat theycanbegrabbedandremoved.Removethe fourcenteringballs,4,fromtheyokeusingthe sameprocess.

4.Thoroughlycleanallslidelockcomponents. Cleantheyokeboreandpawlholes.Replacethe yokeifdamageorexcessivewearisfound.

Assembly

1.Coattheoutersurfaceoftheyokebarrel,1,with grease.Pushgreaseintothecenteringballbores andthepawlholesintheyoke.

2.Applygreasetothefourcenteringballs,2,and insertthemintotheirbores.Thegreasewillhold theminplace.

3.Applygreasetothesidesofthepawls,3,and insertthemintothesquareholes,positioning themsothatthelipofthepawlfacesintothe grooveintheyokebarrel.Thepawlsmustslide freelyupanddown,andmustbeflushwiththe topoftheyokebarrel.

4.Pushanewspringovertheyokebarreluptothe shoulder.

NOTE: Oneendofthespringhasasmallerdiameter thantheother.Besurethesmalldiameterofspring isupagainsttheshoulderontheyokebarrel.

5.Filltheinsideofthecollarcavitywithgrease.

6.Slidethecollar,1,overtheyokebarrel,ensuring thelargediameterendofthespringstaysinside thecollaragainstthefrontlip.

7.Pullthecollarrearwardpasttheretainingring grooveuntilitlatchesinplace.

8.Installtheretainingring,2,inthegroove.

9.Grabthecollarandmanuallycenteritontheyoke sothatitspringsforward.Thecollarmustslide freelyandthepawlsmustmoveupanddown afterassembly.

DRIVESHAFT

Removal

1.Removethedriveshaftclamp,Turnoutthe centercapscrew,2,about3/8″

2.Pullthedriveshaft,1,fromthecentergearbox, NOTE: Itmaybenecessarytoheattheoverrunning clutchhub,3,tobreaktheshaftloosefromthe gearbox.

Installation

1.Cleanthecentergearboxsplineshaftofrustand dirt.Lubricatetheshaftwithcorrosioninhibiting compound.

2.Slidetheoverrunningclutchendofthedriveshaft ontothecentergearboxsplineshaft.

3.Useasoftfacedhammerormalletandstrikethe tractorendoftheshaftandseattheshaft completelyonthegearboxspline.

4.Turninthecentercapscrew,1,andtightenas muchaspossibletopulltheclutchsecurelyonto thetaperedendofthegearboxshaft.

5.Installtheshaftclamp,Tightenthetwocap screwsto87N⋅m(64ft.-lbs.).

DRIVESHAFTGUARD

Removal

1.Insertascrewdriverintheslot,1,onthedrive shaftbell,andpushdownthenforwardtosnap theretainingringoutofitsgroove.Repeatthis procedureateachslot.Reachintotheendofthis shieldingwithascrewdrivertofinishpoppingthe retainingringoutofitsgroove.

2.Slidetheshieldingoffthedriveshaft.If necessary,taptheguardlightlywithasoftmallet tounseattheguardbushingfromtheshaft.

IMPORTANT: Removethegreasefittingsasneeded toallowtheguardtoslideofftheshaft.Ifthegrease fittingsarenotremoved,theinternalbushingsmay bepulledoutduringdisassembly.

Inspection

1.Thedrivelineguardsshouldbeinspectedforany signsofphysicaldamagesuchasdentsor bends.

2.Ifanydamageisfound,theguardsshouldbe replaced.

3.Inspecttheguardbushings.Replacethe bushingsiftheyarewornenoughtoallowguard movementwhenmountedontheshaft.

Installation

1.Slidetheguardontotheshaft.Usingtwo screwdrivers,workaroundthebellopening pressingtheretainingclipinitsslot.Presstheclip intoplacewithonescrewdriverwhileholdingthe alreadyseatedportioninplacewiththeother.

2.Installthegreasefittingsasneeded.Lubricate theU-jointandshaftbeforeoperatingthedisc mower.

U-JOINTS

Disassembly

1.RemovethePTOshaftfromtheunit,andremove theshieldingasdescribedpreviously.

2.Removetheinternalretainingrings,1,fromthe flangeyoke,2.

3.Removetheexternalsnaprings,3,byusingtwo flatbladescrewdrivers.Useonescrewdriverto holdoneendofthesnapring,whilepryingthe otherendoutofthegroovewiththeother screwdriver.

4.PlacethejointinaviseandUselighthammer blowstodriveupthebearing.Donottightenthe jointinthevise.

5.Holdthebearinginavise.Removethebearing fromtheyokebylighthammerblowsontothe flangeorbyrotatingit.

6.Turnthejointoverandplaceitinavise.Uselight hammerblowstodriveupthebearing.Donot tightenthejointinthevise.

10.Griptheloosenedbearinginthevise,anddrive theyokeoffthebearingbylighthammerblows ontothearms.

11.Turntheyokeoverandpositionitinapressor vise.Withasocketorbushingdriver,Uselight hammerblowstodriveoutthebearinguntilthe crosshasbottomedout.

12.Griptheloosenedbearinginthevise,anddrive theyokeoffthebearingbylighthammerblows ontothearms.

13.Rotatethecrossuntilitisfreeoftheyoke.

Inspection

NOTE: TheU-jointcrossandbearingsmustbe replacedanytimetheU-jointisdisassembled,even ifthecrossandbearingswerenothesourceof failure.

1.Inspecttheyokeearsforwearinthebearing area.Replacetheyokeifthereisanyevidence ofwear,orifthebearingareaisdistorted.The bearingcupsmustbeatightfitintheyokeear.

2.Inspecttheballandsocketconnectionbetween theyokesforexcessivewearorgalling.
