INSTALLATIONOFORFS(O-RINGFLAT FACED)FITTINGS

WheninstallingORFSfittingsthoroughlycleanboth flatsurfacesofthefittings,1,andlubricatetheO-ring, 2,withlightoil.Makesurebothsurfacesarealigned properly.Torquethefittingtospecifiedtorquelisted throughouttherepairmanual.

IMPORTANT: Ifthefittingsurfacesarenotproperly cleaned,theO-ringwillnotsealproperly.Ifthefitting surfacesarenotproperlyaligned,thefittingsmaybe damagedandwillnotsealproperly.

IMPORTANT: AlwaysusegenuineNewHolland replacementoilsandfilterstoensureproper lubricationandfiltrationofengineandhydraulic systemoils.

Theuseofproperoils,grease,andkeepingthe hydraulicsystemcleanwillextendmachineand componentlife.

INTRODUCTION

The1431/1432discmower-conditionersutilize constantvelocityU-jointdrivelinesforsmooth operation,andtoprovidetheabilitytoswingthe tongueduringPTOoperation.TheprimaryPTOshaft isequippedwithan80° CVU-joint,1,atthetractor end,anda50° CVU-joint,2,atthemowerendofthe shaft.TheprimaryPTOshaftattachestothefrontof thetonguejackshaft;thetonguejackshaftthen transferspowerbacktoapointmidwayalongthe tongue.

ThesecondaryPTOshaftattachestotherearofthe tonguejackshaftandusesconventionalU-joints,1, atbothendsoftheshaft.The1431and1432are availableasa1000RPMPTOunitsonly.

ACVjointconsistsofadoubleU-jointassembly,with boththefront,1,andrear,2,yokesconnected togetherwithamechanicalconnection;thisensures thatboththefrontU-jointandtherearU-jointinthe assemblyareoperatingatthesameangles.By operatingatequalangles,theCVjointprovidesa constantvelocityoutput(hencethename,CVjoint) atalloperatingangles,andeliminatesthevibration thatcanresultwhenturningsharpinthefield.

TheCVjointdegreeratingindicatesthemaximum allowableoperatingangleoftheCVU-joint; operationatanglesexceedingthatvaluewillresultin CVjointfailure.The80° CVjointconsistsofafront andrearjoint,whichhaveasphericalballjoint,3,in thestrapoftheyokes.Thecenterhousingofthejoint assemblycontainsafloatingintermediateplate,4, withapinprotrudingfromthecenterofeachside. WiththeCVjointassembled,thesphericalballjoint, 3,ontheyokesfitoverthepinontheintermediate plate,4.Asoneyokemoves,itshiftstheintermediate plate,andtheoppositeyokeaswell,tomaintainthe sameoperatinganglesofbothU-joints.The maximumoperatingangleoccurswhenthe intermediateplatepincontactstheedgeofthecenter housingopening.

The50° CVjointdiffersinthatthereisno intermediateplate;theoneyokehasaball,1,onthe strapoftheyoke,whiletheopposingyokehasa socket,2;whenthejointisassembled,theballonthe oneyokeisengagedinthesocketoftheother;inthis way,thetwojointsareconnected,andoneyoke movestheothertomaintainequalangles.Whilethe 50° CVjointhasfewerpartstowear,themaximum operatingangleisless,astheyokeswillcontactthe centerhousingsooner.

AUTO-LOKSLIDELOCK

The1431and1432areequippedwithanAuto-Lok slidelock,1,whichautomaticallylatchesinthe rearwardpositionwhenpulledback.Theprimary PTOshaftmaythenbeheldwithbothhandstoguide itontothetractorshaft;astheyokeslidesontothe tractorshaft,theslidelockcollarspringsforwardto latchthePTOshafttothetractorshaft.

TheAuto-Lokslidelockworksasfollows;asthe collarisslidrearward,ittendstotwistorcockslightly sideways,allowingashoulderinthecollar,1,tocatch onaridgeontheyoke,2.Astheyokeisslidontothe tractorshaft,andthepawls,3,lineupwiththegroove onthetractorshaft,fourballs,4,intheyokeare pushedoutwardbytheendoftheshaft.Thesefour ballscenterthecollar,causingtheshoulderto disengagefromtheridge,andthecollarsprings forwardtolockthepawlsinthetractorPTOshaft groove.

AUTO-LOKSLIDELOCK-DISASSEMBLY

1.Pulltheslidelockcollarrearwarduntilitlatches inplace.Useascrewdriverorspringpickto removetheretainingring,1,fromtheendofthe yoke.

2.Slidethecollar,1,offtheyoke,andremovethe spring,2,fromtheyokebarrel.

NOTE: Thespringisaninterferencefit,andwillhave tobeworkedofftheyokebarrel.

3.Removethepawls,3,byreachingintotheyoke boreandpushingthepawlsoutwards,sothat theycanbegrabbedandremoved.Removethe fourcenteringballs,4,fromtheyokeusingthe sameprocess.

4.Thoroughlycleanallslidelockcomponents. Cleantheyokeboreandpawlholes.Replacethe yokeifdamageorexcessivewearisfound.

AUTO-LOKSlideLock-Assembly

1.Coattheoutersurfaceoftheyokebarrel,1,with grease;pushgreaseintothecenteringballbores andthepawlholesintheyoke.Applygreaseto thefourcenteringballs,2,andinserttheminto theirbores;thegreasewillholdtheminplace. Applygreasetothesidesofthepawls,3,and insertthemintothesquareholes,positioning themsothatthelipofthepawlfacesintothe grooveintheyokebarrel.Thepawlsmustslide freelyupanddown,andmustbeflushwiththe topoftheyokebarrel.

2.Pushanewspringovertheyokebarreluptothe shoulder.

NOTE: Oneendofthespringhasasmallerdiameter thantheother.Besurethesmalldiameterofspring isupagainsttheshoulderontheyokebarrel.
