Golf Course Update
(continued from page 7)
Projects:
• Stone steps at 7 tee – Merrifield Garden Centers completed the work. A hand-made railing was installed at the blue tee steps due to possible safety risks. Two of the steps have a small layer peeling off – we have contacted Merrifield and they are coming out to address.
• Tee stations – We have renovated the tee stations using a decorative stone. This stone will not wash out very easily and will have less weeds than the crush and run that we used before. Some of the 6x6 wood outlining the box will need to be replaced but we are quite pleased with the look.
• Crossover landscaping – Merrifield Garden Center helped us to redesign the plantings around the crossover. These plants are all deer resistant and will be bolstered with annual flowers.
• Enclosure replacement – We are looking for adequate replacements for the small enclosures throughout the course (1, 4, 10, 18). The old ones were hand made by a carpenter and we are struggling to find something that looks good.
• Cart path repair – we successfully replaced a few broken panels at 8 green and will replace a few more around the course. We did this “in-house” and it appears to have gone well.
• PoaCure:
8 Currently the plan is to make our first application on greens on May 1st.
8 We also plan on spraying our new bluegrass fairways as well as approaches and some tees.
While the weather continues to swing wildly and impact the course in various ways, we are still pleased with the turf conditions this spring. We look forward to another good year and as usual –I look forward to seeing you on the course!
