01 MIES MEMORIAL LIBRARY
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION PROBLEMS of ANTROPOCENE and FUTURE CITY DESIGN
INSTRUCTOR:KOUWEI CHIU
Members:DAVID,YUNA,SARAH,DEREK 2021 FALL
In this project, we discuss how the future library will be close to people’s lives and coexist with the environment at three points in time, past, present, and future. Therefore, we created three types of designs through the grid of mies. Finally, in addition to responding to our imagination of the future library, it also creates a comfortable microclimate environment in the face of future issues. To commemorate and celebrate the mies memorial library together, preserve the past and look forward to the future.
Campus circulation and Chicago's climate were the main factors we considered openings and shapes. Chicago's humid climate, monsoons, and winter snow are the main factors we have to address. We placed the volume in the center of the base, and the semi-outdoor space under the roof and the streamlined roof can generate cool air and promote indoor air circulation.

D e s i g n PROGESS
We discuss how the library of the future will interact with the original library. Continuing the grid system of MIES, combined with what we think will be the resourcesharing model of future libraries. The grid system is folded to form a tunnel, which is combined with the roaming circulation and function. For us, the library of the future will not be limited to book lending, b ut a hub for information circulation, so in terms of space arrangement, when people walk in various book areas, they will also enter the arranged MIES commemorative manuscripts. And peek at Crown Hall from a different angle. Sustainability
The whole design adopts permanent energy and geothermal system to reduce the use of air conditioning in summer and heating in winter.
Because of the location of the site and the passage in the design, the road traffic at the intersection is improved, and teachers and students can go to the destination more conveniently.

The void space created by the wind tunnel allows the interior to have good ventilation and shape a comfortable microclimate environment for people to gather. People can read and chat in the shadow of the trees in summer, or build a snowman and admire the moon in winter.
By the design, we expect these improvments attracts people from different groups by connecting indoor, outdoor and semi-outdoor leisure spaces, inviting them to commemorate and celebrate the mies memorial library together.
02 CONFLICT HARMONY ACADEMIC DESIGN
INSTRUCTOR:Chih-Yin Chien TUNGHAI UNIVERSITY ARCHITECTURE STUDIO 8 2022 SPRING
First, I've observed some uncommon things from daily life, movies and cases. These things share something in common, which is all of them seems a little bit weird from the normal human perception and usage. I try to find and recreate the weirdness from previous observation by experiments. Then imply my theory to my following design process.
This experiment manipulates materials by shaping a perceived hard material into a soft and breakable shape, or make a lighter material bearing a heavy concrete block. The purpose of this operation is to create a misunderstanding in our brain in psychological and physical way. When we look at these photos, we will feel the confliction and weirdness. So I came up with this formula:
This formula show how human brain process informations from outside through senses. The table shows the connection between each sense and the information we received.
↓
Receive information
Measure with experience ↓ Cogniton collapse ↓ Result
The site is located in the old military community on Jingcheng Road, which is made up by mostly two-story buildings.
By using symmetry as a manipulation method, the constantly change of symmetry axis and the adaption of new sturcture cause differences on height level. As viewers approaching, it is hard to process the weirdness until they fully experience the whole building.

LI'S HOUSE
DESIGN
This is the first interior project done completely by my own. The whole process took 4 months. Including supervision, construction, wall demolition, carpentry, and painting. The partition wall in the living room and dining room was demolished to open up the visual experience. The final outcome might be unmature, but I have gain so much knowledge which is not be taught in school. And I reasure the desire to continue studying in the field of interior and spatial design.
