WIND

Based of the collective data from the anemometer loaned by Makelab UCSI. The following Wind data has been collected. It peaks at 8km/h upon the outdoors of the site (probably caused by the free transit of traffic at that period)

Wind from past LTR Station

However, on its lows, it initiate at 0.3km/h. (probably caused by neighboring trees or building muffles/swathe the wind speed.

SWOT STRENGTH Based of the collective data from the anemometer loaned by Makelab UCSI. The following Wind data has been collected. The presence of wind may be not as present as compared to sites with constant wind flow e.g. beach... BREEZE

WEAKNESS The wind may not be frequently available/constant at the disposal of the site. This creates an obstruction/disturbance towards collecting wind as energy.

OPPORTUNITY Wind turbines on site to fully utilize natural effect of wind. The Wind turbines can be placed at site towards the top northeast and west of the site. This helps the generate efficient energy for savings and lower maintenance.

Geothermal systems are the most cost-effective, energy efficient and environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems available. They use the naturally occurring temperature of the ground to transfer heat rather than generate it through burning gas (so no emissions!). The most efficient gas heaters provide 94% efficiency meaning for 1 unit of energy spent, 0.94 units of heat is produced.

Geothermal systems gather thermal energy from the core of the earth to generate electricity. The environmental effects of geothermal energy depend on how geothermal energy is used or how it is converted to useful energy. CONFIGURATION

DRAFT

The combined & shared memory of the community center, houses dreams & visions since 2011. The form was adapted & derived from the visual connectivity caused by the various movement of tectonic plates & rhythm.

A tragic earthquake happened in 2009 whereby its form has lost its rigidness & elasticity. Causing a catastrophic change in magnitude & direction. Almost as if a vector has been installed.

Elisa Burnazzi didn't stopped herself from limiting the strong essence of the recital tragic tremor that occurred in 2009.

The simplicity can be first observed as stationary & perfect. Almost as if the original form has not lost its purpose & originality for its concept.

The smart play of design comes to life when Elisa Burnazzi came about.

The inspirational ideation of growth through earthquake represent an annunciation of birth & a new beginning as well as growth.

BUILDING RESPONSE TO MATERIAL

The project aims at giving positive value to nature, inspiring in its users a renewed confidence in it & in Mankind; kids & the elderly gather together in a building integrated in the green, having the chance to nourish new hope for the future. The roof is covered with grass plots & green such as vines are established to the facades.

In 2009, Poggio Picenze would suffer fatalities from an earthquake that occurred at 3:32 local time (1:32 UTC) on 6 April 2009, and was rated 5.8 on the Richter scale and 6.3 on the moment magnitude scale; its epicenter was near L'Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo, which together with surrounding villages suffered the most damage. There have been several thousand aftershocks since, and more than thirty of which had a Richter magnitude greater than 3.5.

COMMUNITY CENTER

The building's side entrances also use recessed entrances. The side entrances can easily be identified from the indentation in the flat walls. These recessed entrances use up a small portion of the interior space.

The Community Centre is using a Centralized organization, The spaces are grouped around the common space. The common space is large enough in size to gather the other spaces together

The new Poggio Picenze multi-age community center was born to replace the old structure used for social gatherings, located in the historic center, which was made unusable by the earthquake of April 6, 2009. A number of associations responded to the appeal from the administration, including the Associazione Nazionale Cantanti, the group La Provincia Editoriale and the Salvadanaio per l’Abruzzo. The construction company, the supplier firms and the designers are working to reduce their fees. After a first draft of the project, which included the location of the building on the concrete pitch in the city park, in 2011 the city council relocated the community center site to a neighboring sports area, where it replaced the earthquake logistics coordination camp.

The Community Centre has an oblique approach. Due to the buildings zig-zag form, it allows the building's main entrance to be clearly visible even if it is approached from an extreme angle. Furthermore, the entrance also helps enhance the effect of perspective on the building's façade and form. The building's multiple entrances also can be redirected one or more times to delay and prolong the sequence of the approach.

SOFTWOOD LUMBER

I-BEAMS STRUCTURE

Ever since earthquake, there was an oversupply of logs and wood. Elisa wanted to ensure the building reflects to the aftershock, by reusing the pine wood from the forest to resemble originality and growth of a new beginning whilst achieving Sustainable development design.

To achieve a standing firm structure throughout the 4-seasons. The community center must be constructed with I-beams placed in core of each pillar/ column.

To resemble the ground/ plates of the earth crust. Elisa featured a roof garden to symbolize the ground breaking cracks that were caused by the earthquake.

The typical static ropes (diameter. 9.7) that were hung on as the façade system of Poggio Picenze. Symbolizes healing through the crack of after the earthquake.

This also helps generate the firm steeping structure with holo-out walls cladded with pine strips to act as a façade.

It also stimulates growth of regeneration of plants after the quake. Symbolizes a new beginning while the scars were still imprinted on the surfaces of the Italy

It is where climber plants (such as vines & morning glory...) are hung to mend the wounds of the earth crust. It can be seen almost throughout the building.

Common Space

Adjacent spaces allow for each space to be clearly defined and to respond in its own way to its function or symbolic requirements. The type of adjacent space used in the building is by separating a separating plane in such a way that it limits the visual and physical access between two adjacent spaces. This reinforces the individuality of each of the spaces and accommodates their differences.

SPACES LINKED BY A COMMON SPACE

SECTION BB

Most spaces within the building are linked to the common space, this allows the spaces to become linear in form to link the two spaces that are distant from each other, the common space is dominant in the organization and organizes the spaces about itself.

USES INSIDE BUILDING

Vines and Greenery

The Centre is built on one level only and covers about 240 square meters: there are the entrance hall, two multi-purpose rooms, the library with Internet stations, one music room, and besides, services, a store room and both open and covered spaces. The main closed volume is sided by two other open buildings for 21 parking fourwheeled and two-wheeled vehicles,

At the same time, as the building is covered in wood and in green, the project aims at giving a positive value to nature, inspiring in its users a renewed confidence in it and in mankind; kids and the elderly gather together in a building integrated in the green, having the chance to nourish new hope for the future. The Poggio Picenze uses a spread of design intentions such as openings at multiple rooms so that natural lightings can protrude through the panels & openings of the community center.

FRACTURED WINDS 0.3-5KNOTS

WIND DRAFTING In light of the combination of climate and surrounding the Poggio Picenze establishes the essence of home. A feeling of warm comfort and entanglement. Which is why the building features an open oasis for air-circulation to pass through.

SERVICES SPACES The services spaces in the building are the bathrooms as well as the Distribution box (DB) (Storage), they are located nearer to the carparks, this allows the side of the building facing away from the parking lot to have a nicer view as well as further away from the services. This also helps to hide the services from the front of the building thus not decreasing its external view.

HUMAN CIRCULATION The main circulation for the building is based on the 'big crack' in the middle of the building. The zig-zag volumes want to somehow evoke imaginary cracks, in remembrance of the earthquake occurred. At the same time it creates the main connecting space and hallway for human circulation.

Anthropometrics is the comparative study of the measurements and capabilities of the human body. The underlying principle of anthropometrics is that building designs should adapt to suit the human body, rather than people having to adapt to suit the buildings.

CHIESA DI SAN FELICE Chiesa Di San Felice is Poggio Picenze's most iconic and famous church in the entire township. Packed on Sundays.

Nothing pleases an eye like being enclosed with lush greeneries together with a cool sense of breeze. Which is what the Poggio Picenze offers.

VIALE BENEDETTO VILLA

Poggio Picenze may be a small town in Italy, but even small towns have the loudest bells. It is said to mimic the Tuscany in the leaning tower of Pisa.

One of the most attractive tourism spot in Poggio Picenzo, Famous it's lush greeneries and walking distance away from the Community Center

LUMACA B'BRUZZO Poggio Picenze limited snail farm. Eccentric to its township. Served in the most Italian way, Escargot originally from Greece, but best served in the Italian manner

C

Task 03 The Community Center Utopia In this task, I designed a community center to help with the homeless and other problem that occurred on site

DESIGN INTENTION The trees at the side acts as a natural shading and natural bring a lot of benefits. Surrounding the building with trees will also act as a cooling feathers. Natural help to reduce blood pressures, and help with mental issue

CONCEPT : Mellow Mellow defines someone or something that is calm, smooth and free from harshness. A person who is calm and peaceful and doesn't get upset easily is an example of a person who is mellow.

PROBLEM Homeless Roaming around without purpose. This is because lack of skill or knowledge, lost hope of life. Youngster grew up in the wrong environment, thus affecting their perception of life .

OPEN SPACE THE USER OF THE SPACE FEEL RELAXED NOT TRAPPED OR CONTAIN

EXPLORE THE BUILDING HAVE A INTERESTING FACADE & LAYOUT SO THAT PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO EXPLORE MORE

RELAX THE BUILDING GIVE OUT A SENCE OF RELAXATION

Solution Try to affect the young generation so that they don't repeat the mistake of their elders Provide a venue for education for the homeless. The building should also provide purpose to those who roam around without any purpose.

Multipurpose Hall

Studying Space

CLIENT Homeless The building provide a lot of spaces to attreact the homeless to rest in the building

At a time when the number of homeless is hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons, the My Strengths Training for Life (MST4Life)™ programme is working to reduce these figures. With helping homeless young people develop their resiliency using psychological techniques MST4Life™ improves physical, mental, and social health outcomes in homeless young people who typically experience high rates of unemployment and mental health problems compared to their peers.

NGO In order for the NGO to change the problem at the site the NGO needs a place to operate

The ground floor is covered with louvers and a numerous opening, The louvers help to define the space without adding boundaries to the wind and the view of the building thus creating a lot of opening. All the building are individual but under the same roof which differentiate spaces that are private and public. All the spaces are radial towards the courtyard in the middle

The first floor is a open floor without any roof and will a lot of seating area
