form. To conjure up an image for each word, we used a source of big data, google, to discover and recognize similarities of images that were displayed as a result of searching each word. Later, we made images of each word in to pixels, which were conveyed as square shaped frames. In these pixels, there would be the mean of images collected for each idealistic word. The result for this procedure were a diversity of varying colors and shapes. Conclusively, our aim was to delineate a tangible form of big data, in which abstract expressions could be shown as images with similar colors and shapes in a frame intended to depict pixels.

이러한 버릇의 무의식성이 가진 중독성과 우리 안으로부터 쫓아버릴 수 없는 강력한 힘에 집중하여 보는

버릇이라는 단어가 내던져졌을 때, 우리 머릿속은 ‘다리 떨기’로 가득 찼다. 다리 떨기는 흔하지만

Therefore, we projected our interpretation of habits as well as the actual process behind creating our work by a factory that produces habit energy. ▶ Project Description 버릇은 무의식성이 강한 행동이다. 자신이 가지고 있는 버릇에 대해 깊이 곱씹어보지 않으면 자각하지 못할 정도로 버릇은 지극히 일상적이고 사소한 것이다. 하지만 우리는 결코 그 사소함을 떨쳐버릴 수 없다. 버릇력, 쉬이 말해 버릇이 가진 힘이다. 행동은 사회를 받아들이는 우리 마음의 반응이며, 이것이 반복되면 버릇으로 굳어진다. 이때 일회성에 그칠 수 있는 행동을 다시금 반복적으로 지속하게 하는 것, 그리고 그 행동을 멈출 수 없게 하는 것이 바로 버릇력이다. 나아가, 버릇력은 여러사람에게 전파되어지는 이것의 영향력 역시 내포한다. 누군가가 다리를 떨고 있는 것을 보면 어느 순간 함께 다리를 떨고 있는 나 자신을 발견하게 되는 것. 우리는 35

집단지성 Collective Intelligence ▶ Design Concept & Context 개인의 지성은 모이지 않은 채 존재하기 때문에, 대기에 떠도는 수증기와 같이 형체를 갖추지 못한다. 하지만 맺힐 장소를 찾은 수증기가 이슬이 되듯이, 인터넷이라는 개방적인 망 공간 수많은 지점에 개개인의 지성이 맺히고 응축되어 집단화된다. 그러한 과정을 통해 탄생한 집단지성은 대중의 필요에 따라 빛이 되기도 하고, 어둠 속에 묻히기도 한다. 때로는 지나가는 바람에 땅에 떨어지기도 한다. 우리는 이러한 현대인의 집단지성을 거미줄에 이슬이 맺히고, 큰 물방울로 응축되고, 흔들려 떨어지는 과정을 통해 형상화하였다.

Individual intelligence is not able to exist, just like form of water vapor in the air.

However, as water vapor encounters colder air and form tiny water droplets, visible in the form of mist, individual intelligence is condensed, clustered together on an open platform such as the Internet, and becomes collective intelligence. We represent this collective intelligence in the same way as the process of dew collecting on spider web. ▶ Project Description 그물천과 광섬유의 엮임은 전체적인 거미줄의 형상을 표현하며, 망 위에 산포한 유리구슬은 아직 응축되지 않은 지성을, 모여있는 구슬은 응축된 지성을 나타낸다. 그물천에 연결된 모터는 모션센서에 감지된 관객의 움직임에 따라 그물 위의 여러 지점을 상하로 이동시킨다. 이러한 모터의 움직임을 통해, 전체 작품은 다양한 위상으로 동적으로 변이하는 집단지성의 대중 감응성을 보여준다. 이 과정 안에서, 응축된 지성을 상징하는 구슬들은 망 위에서 이동하며 빛이 되기도 하고, 어둠 속으로 사라지기도 하며, 땅에 떨어지기도 한다.

The combination of net and fiber optic represents the shape of spider net. The distributed and congregated beads on the net imply collective and individual intelligence, respectively. The stepping motors changes the height of multiple points on the net based on the movement of spectators, which is sensed through the motion sensors. With the movement created by the motors, the entire work shows public susceptibility of collective intelligence, which morphs into various phases. In these processes, the beads for collective intelligence becomes a light, vanishes into darkness, or falls down to the ground.

‘Connection’ can be defined as the ‘relationship between more than two things’ in general terms. However we focused on the narrower IT terminology meaning ‘access inside the digital system’.

The Heavens had always been a target of exploration and challenge for mankind from the beginning of time such as could be seen in the story of the Tower of Babel where the ancient Babylonians tried to build a tower in an attempt to reach the Heavens, but failed.

밀폐된 환경을 유지하는 것처럼, 한정된 공간은 답답하거나 두려움을 줄 것 같지만 사실 사람들은 그 안에서 편안함을 느낀다. 우리는 옥상이라는 트인 공간 안에 한정된 공간을 만들어 밀폐된 공간감의 특징을 살리고, 열 마디 말보다 단 한 번의 포옹이 더 큰 위로가 된다는 것을 표현할 수 있도록 부드러운 촉감을 줄 수 있는 요소들을 사용하여 관객이 체험할 수 있는 설치 작품을 계획하였다.

We all go through life with different worries and troubles. Likewise we all have different ways of healing ourselves from these worries. Some people gossip with friends, some lean on family, some eat their favorite foods. After discussing the various ways people comfort themselves, we thought it was unnecessary to give a verbose explanation of the word “healing”. Confined spaces might seem suffocating or scary, but in fact confinement makes people feel comfortable, as newborns do when they are wrapped tightly to imitate conditions inside the womb. By creating a restricted space on an open rooftop, we highlight the installation’s confining character. To express “One hug heals more than ten words” ▶ Project Description 열 마디 말보다 한 번의 포옹이 더 위로가 된다는 의미를 담은 〈The Hugging Cube〉는 우리 곁에는 누군가 있다는 것과 그것을 체감하게 해주는 따뜻한 손길을 표현하고자 했다. 어느 각도에서나 관객에게 안정적으로 느껴지는 정사각형 큐브 모양으로 구조를 잡았다. 천장에는 부드러운 털실과 광섬유를 늘어뜨리고, 바닥에는 스펀지와 솜을 깔아 부드럽고 푹신한 느낌을 살렸다. 탁 트인 옥상의 특성으로 인해, 낮에는 하얀 앵글이 드러나 옥상이라는 열린 공간 안에 또 다른 공간을 분리해주어 마치 개인의 영역 같은 느낌을 주고, 밤이 되면 실 사이사이마다 불규칙하게 빛나는 광섬유가 우주의 별처럼 빛나 큐브의 실제 크기보다 더 넓은 공간감을 준다. 큐브 중앙에는 한 사람만이 들어갈 수 있는 빈 공간을 만들어 아늑한 느낌을 더욱 살려주었다. 〈The Hugging Cube〉 delivers the message that ‘One hug heals more than ten words.’

WIKI DEW 집단지성이란 다수의 개체들이 서로 협력 혹은 경쟁을 통하여 얻게 되는 지적 능력에 의한 결과로 얻어진 집단적 능력을 말한다. 소수의 우수 한 개체나 전문가의 능력보다 다양성과 독립성을 가진 집단의 ‘통합된 지성’이 올바른 결론에 가깝다는 주장이다.

디자인 배경 및 컨셉 개인의 지성은 모이지 않은 채 존재하기 때문에, 대기에 떠도는 수증기와 같이 형체를 갖추지 못한다.하지만, 맺힐 장소를 찾은 수증기가 이슬이 되듯이, 인터넷이라는 개방적인 망에 수많은 지점에 개개인의 지성이 맺히고 응축되어 집단화된다.그러한 과정을 통해 탄생한 집단지성은 대중의 필요에 따라 빛이 되기도하고, 어둠속에 묻히기도 한다. 우리는 이러한 현대인의 집단지성을 거미 줄에 이슬이 맺히고, 큰 물방울로 응축되고, 흔들려 떨어지는 과정에 빗대어 표현하였다.

Individual intelligence is not able to exist, just like form of water vapor in the air. However, as water vapor encounters colder air and form tiny water droplets, visible in the form of mist, individual intelligence is condensed, clustered together on an open platform such as the Internet, and becomes collective intelligence. We represent this collective intelligence in the same way as the process of dew collecting on spider web.

작품설명 그물천과 광섬유의 엮임은 전체적인 거미줄의 형상을 표현하며, 망 위에 산포한 유리구슬은 아직 응축되지 않은 지성을, 모여있는 구슬은 응축된 지성을 나타낸다.그물천에 연결된 모터는 모션센서에 감지된 관객의 움직임에 따라 그물 위의 여러 지점을 상하로 이동시킨다. 이러한 모터의 움직임을 통해, 전체 작품은 다양한 위상으로 동적으로 변이하는 집단지성의 대중 감응성을 보여준다. 이 과정안에서, 응축된 지성을 상징하는 구슬들은 망 위에서 이동하며 빛이 되기도 하고, 어둠속으로 사라지기도 하며, 땅에 떨어 지기도 한다.

The combination of net and fiber optic represents the shape of spider net. The distributed and congregated beads on the net imply collective and individual intelligence, respectively. The stepping motors changes the height of multiple points on the net based on the movement of spectators, which is sensed through the motion sensors. With the movement created by the motors, the entire work shows public susceptibility of collective intelligence, which morphs into various phases. In these processes, the beads for collective intelligence becomes a light, vanishes into darkness, or falls down to the ground.
