Organic Waste Recycling
SB 1383 is Easy in Hesperia
Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) is part of a statewide effort to reduce the emissions of short-lived climate pollutants, such as methane gas, by reducing organic waste disposal (food waste, green waste, paper products, etc.) by 75% by 2025.
The City of Hesperia is making compliance with SB 1383 easy by continuing to use the onebin system. This system allows us to satisfy the requirements of SB 1383 Organic Waste Recycling without changes to your current residential waste collection methods. All organic waste, recyclables, and household waste can continue to be tossed into the same bin.

You don’t have to worry about sorting recyclables. Advance Disposal sorts and separates recyclable items from all residential waste at their Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). Special equipment diverts organic material from the waste stream, resulting in a high landfill diversion rate.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
You can also help with diversion! Using your organic waste for composting or donating edible food to a food recovery organization are great ways to do your part in reducing organic waste.

A Message from the City Manager
Since I began my service as Hesperia City Manager in 2016, the City has prioritized initiatives that enhance this great community by focusing on the needs of our growing residential and business population. We have significantly improved our infrastructure, expanded public safety efforts with additional personnel and emergency preparedness efforts, offered a wide variety of recycling services that benefit our residents and the environment, and attracted new businesses that make a tremendous investment in Hesperia. As part of our communication goals, the City will soon offer this publication digitally. I am incredibly proud of our accomplishments, and the work we’ve done that has brought Hesperia fiscal strength through strategic governance. These achievements have been made possible with the talents of the entire organization, a supportive community, and through collaborative work with Hesperia’s elected officials.
It is bittersweet to officially announce my retirement from the City of Hesperia. For over 35 years, my career in public service has provided me with the opportunity to invest in communities; I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve. With the City Council’s foresight and commitment to its strategic goals, the City is well-positioned to continue the important work of improving the quality of life in Hesperia. The City Council has appointed Rachel Molina to serve as City Manager upon my retirement; I’m confident she will do an outstanding job in this role. Thank you, Hesperia, for your support over the years.
