OASIS – TIME FLIES 1994-2009

The Oasis band logo, is located at the top left corner. This follows similar designs and concepts of their other album covers. The black and white logo has been designed and shown like this in order for it to stand out from the colours on the cover. The typography is simple and easy to read.

Front cover

The title of the album is in a bold type that stands out from the sky of the image. The number suggest that this is the time period from when the band stared and to the end of it.

The design of the cover shows a concert. The significance of this in relation to the album is that it links with the time and the title of the album ‘Time flies’. Oasis perhaps has used the audience as their cover as they have supported the group and want to give something back.

There isn’t an image of the band on the back of this because their audience knows them and doesn’t need to see them.

Below and above the barcode, is some information about the copyright and the production details. It also has the record company’s logo as well as their logo.

Back cover

The image has been taken from a low angle and is looking up in perspective of the people walking. The Fstop is large as the effect on the light in the background suggests it.

This is the track list which is shown on the back cover of the album. The difference between this album back cover and others is that others display their track list clearly and organised. Whereas this album doesn’t. which suggests that it is untidy and not organised that could represent the members of the band.

This image is completely different to the image on the front of the cover. It could suggest two different meaning behind the band. It could also foreshadow their songs or what they are written about.

The band name doesn’t follow the same style as the front cover. This has changed to a large font that is in the colour white that is just about visible to the viewer as it breaks through the cloud.

The title of the album is on the cover too. This is in the same place as it is on the front cover. Likewise the date besides it. The typography of the name of the album is bold and stands out from the other colours on the cd.

Disk

The cd follows the same design as the front cover. The image is the same as the cover however we see an outline in the clouds of the band. We don’t see their faces but the target audience who listen to this music will know who they are.

The disk number is listed here as well as the institution that produced the music by the band. In this case, Sony music.

EMINEM RELAPSE

The composition between the black background and the artwork work well together. Reasons for this are that the red and yellow of the pills and the face stand out from the background and adds to the facial expression. This sticker represents the album name. Here is the name of the album “relapse”. This is a drug prescription label. The name of the artist is where the patient’s name would be and the producer of the artist is the doctor’s name “Dr. Dre”.

Looking closely, the artwork of the artist is made up of different pills. This could represent what the album is inspired from. The connotations of the colour red of the pills suggest anger and rage. It could also connote romance however in this context the facial expression anchors rage and the image of pills with the drug label I think that it doesn’t connote romance. The pills also dentate his life and his personal life that not many people know about.

This is a parental advisory sticker which is shown on the album cover in order to warn the potential buyers that it contains explicit content. This also reflects with the type of genre that this is: i.e. Hip-hop.

The logo of album is shown on the back cover with a different colour scheme to what it is on the front of it.

The small icons here are the representation of the institutions that are involved with the production and the release of this content.

Back cover

The songs in the album are listed in as the current medication and the content of the drug.

On the back of the cover, there is a design of a drug prescription.

The web address of the production company and the artist is shown on the back of the cover in order to promote their website and to show their other bits of work.

The executive producer has been labelled on the cover just above the barcode. This represents how the possible importance of him as he is seen when people look at the barcode.

Disk

The name of the CD is presented to the audience in a bold clear type. The typography follows the same style throughout the other covers in terms of the way that it is written.

The wording has been changed from “relapse” to “Refill” however the ‘R&E’ and in the same format.

All of the institutions are listed on the CD disk just like the other parts of the album. This is to promote and tell the audience that these were the institutions that made the CD and produced the content within the CD.

The shadowing below the letters adds some depth to the image. Almost as if they are trying to add a sticker effect that links with the drug prescription.

There isn’t much colouring on the CD disk compared to the rest of the Album design. The reasons for this could be that the audience don’t see this when they pick up the CD, therefore this may suggest that the colour will appeal to the audience as it will attract to them.

WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM

The name of the band is shown on a white background with a black font. This is the only text on the front of the cover. The name of the CD album is not listed on the cover at all. This is not like most CD’s where the name of it is listed or shown in a bold typography.

Front cover

All of the front cover is in black and white. This connotes that it could be an old CD or in the style of an old CD.

As there is no name on the cover, this could mean that it is being targeted to existing fans rather than new fans of the Artic Monkey’s.

The causal attire of the man in the cover, could suggest that he doesn’t want to dress smartly for the purpose of the cover.

Disk

The image on the disk is of many cigarettes. This matches the image in the overall colour theme of the rest of the CD.

The cigarettes that are on the CD, all have been used. This may represent what the band could do, it may symbolise that they are all smokers.

There is no title of the album on the CD or a name of the band that created it. From this design, they haven’t followed other CDs from other bands in terms of them using the production companies on the front of the cover, as well as their name or logo.

The track is listed on the back cover. There is one column which is positioned on the left instead of the centre.

Back cover The main image reflects the image on the front of the cover.

A simple and easy to read font. There isn’t any capital letters or general punctuation which may reflect on the bands life, in terms of them not caring about a lot.

This logo, represents the production company. That assisted with the production of the CD.

All of the legal information and copyright information. It is needed to be on display to reinforce their legal rights to the audience and to cover their selves in case anything was to happen.
