OMNI: Enclosed Motorcycle Project This project is about the innovation of motorcycle. In some countries, It’s not an easy task to ride a motorcycle. In Taiwan, every year more than 40% of casualties were caused by motorcycle riders. However, it seems a general choice for most Taiwanese to ride motorcycle as a transportation because of its low cost and outstanding mobility. I did some researches and I assumed that the motorcycle could be more user-friendly and protective. Not just a vehicle allows rider to expose themselve in a risky environment.

A BETTER CHOICE OMNI is a 2 seater enclosed electric motorcycle. The rider’s position is lower than motorcycle we have nowadays. The shell is composed of durable and light material. OMNI not only protects the rider, but gives the rider an unprecedented riding experience.

THE FUTURE IS HERE I believe in the future there will be more diversity of the forms or uses of motor-cycles. Consequentely, the diversity will change the system of transportation in some ways.

THE CITY: WALL FURNITURE DESIGN This project is about an emotional inspiration. I was astonished and inspired by huge buildings and constructions standing in front of me. The light shining in the darkness reflects how small human-beings are. It is difficult to use words or language to discribe the atmosphere and how it touched me deeply. The unspeakable feeling, is the motivation of this design.

INSPIRATION Different light color and intensity bring different emotions to the users. Some images gave me a feeling of calm but cold; Some expressed a warm and mysterious atmosphere.

DOTS ARRAY, SHAPES & COLOUR CONTRAST I was trying to find out what scale, color, and the pattern is the best to deliver the feeling. On the other hand, in the early stage prototypes, I designed hooks underneath the shelf to maximize its function.

MAKING THE FINAL PROTOTYPE

MORE THAN A FURNITURE The inspiration not only came from city lights, but also inspired by my favorite movie, Blade Runner, Somehow, I believe my product linked with the future world. The glowing shelf not just a piece of furniture, it is also an art piece. It strikeed the balance between practical way and visually pleasing way.

HOPE: Socio Design This project is about caring and sharing. It feels like I don’t belong to this society sometimes, and the feeling of loneliness is bothering me and I felt helpless. Therefore, I asked myself, how to end the emotion of loneliness? Then I realized sharing is the simplest way, and I believe the merit of sharing is not about making a relationship with other people. It’s about sharing with people your hope and warmth sincerely.

BUMPER CROP: GARDEN PLINTHS This project is about repurpose material gardening product design. I found gardeners not only arrange all pots or props on the same layer, but they will also use small stools or plinths to create the visual effect of hierarchy. Therefore, I want to use repurposed material to make a gardening product which can create a similar effect.

IDEATION The reason why I like to design my plinths in triangle shape was that it is easy to arrange them into the scale you like, and according to my preference, the triangle is more alive than square and round shapes.

REPURPOSE-ABLE MATERIAL I found my material in normal places, I use a leftover wood sheet from recycle bin in Kingston university's workshop; I found branches in the Kingston park which were already broke.

TESTS & PROTOTYPES In the beginning, I wanted it looks elegant, so I did not make it large, only 17cm, each side. And try to simulate how gardeners might arrange them into the scale they want. Then, I used leaf and oil paint to decorate the surface, try to make the surface more alive and vigorous.

FINAL OUTCOME The final product is larger than the previous prototypes (25cm/ side), and it is more stable due to the better joint technique. Gardeners can arrange them to present different style.

OXFORD BOTANIC GARDEN CHRISTMAS MARKET Product review Cost: None Time Spent: About 30 minute/ per plinth Retail price: 3£(S) / 6£(L) Consumer’s feedback: I made 12 tables for the market, and after two days, only two left. Some customers said they like the appearance and the function of my plinths, they are useful to decorate their gardens.
