Toprope all day long with your extension rope rubbing on a sharp edge . . .
. . . and you’ll end up with a seriously abraded rope like this one.

A commercially made edge protector, like this one sold by Petzl, is a wise investment. Attach it to the rigging rope with a friction hitch.
