Welcome to our sixth edition of the:

ZB QUARTERLY MAGAZINE!

ZB Quarterly is a collaborative effort among the Lake County Health Department, Zion-Benton Public Library, Zion Park District, City of Zion, Zion Township, Zion School District 6, Zion-Benton High School District 126, College of Lake County, State Representative Joyce Mason and the Coalition for Healthy Communities, designed to bring together news, events, information, and local programs in the Zion Benton Community. Mailed quarterly to each household, we hope this helps you feel connected to the community that you call home.

We want to ensure that every step we take towards becoming better communicators is effective but we need your help! We have placed this “Bee YOU!” photo in five different locations throughout the magazine!

When you see a “Bee YOU!” photo, note the page number and then go to: https://www. surveymonkey.com/r/ZBQuarterly or the QR Code. Answer a few questions and enter a drawing for a gift card that can be used at several local businesses.

Have further feedback? Let us know by emailing ZBQuarterly@gmail.com! We’d love to hear what you want to see printed in the ZB Quarterly community magazine!

We can’t wait to see how the ZB Quarterly inspires communication and participation throughout our communities!

ZION LEADERS COLLABORATE TO ENSURE STUDENT SUCCESS

On January 22, 2021 Zion leaders gathered at Zion-Benton Township High School District 126 (ZBTHS D126) during the Zion Community Leaders Looking Back on 2020 event.

Leaders from over eight organizations, ranging from school districts to civic institutions, socially distanced in the new stateof-the art ZBTHS D126 Performing Arts Center (PAC). After months of solitude due to strict COVID-19 mitigation strategies, D126’s PAC shined a little bit brighter from the energy that was felt in the building.

“It was a distinct honor for our district to be able to host and celebrate the achievements of 2020. I had the opportunity to experience the event in-person and connect with community leaders that are focused on enhancing lives for all members of our community,” said Dr. Nieto, D126 Board of Education Vice-President.

During the event, Zion community leaders took the stage to offer highlights relative to their diverse services and collective impact throughout the community. The message they shared was not only heard by those who participated in-person but also by those who participated virtually. Throughout the presentations Zion leaders made one thing clear -- they are committed to working together as one team.

“Our team is proud to have been part of an event that embodies our mission of promoting self-worth, social responsibility, and lifelong learning in partnership with our community,” said Dr. Jesse J. Rodriguez, Superintendent of District 126. “The Board of Education and I do not recognize this as a one time only event; our work as a group will continue as we understand that we are stronger together as ONE in our quest to achieve student success while promoting excellence.”

The Zion Community Leaders Looking Back on 2020 event stemmed from early conversations that took place in early September where leaders demonstrated a keen interest in collaborating to show the collective impact, examples of excellence in leadership, and plans for the future for the city of Zion.

“The event was the brainchild of our new superintendent Dr. Jesse Rodriguez,” said Cheri Neal, Zion Township Supervisor. “It was the first time anything like this took place. Not only did it lift our spirits by having us focus on what went well instead of everything that went wrong, it brought us together in a new way and helped us to see the incredible things we have going for us as a community collectively.”

MESSAGE FROM REPRESENTATIVE JOYCE MASON

Dear Zion residents,

I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying the start of spring and the warmer weather. I’d like to share some updates about my office with you and ask for your feedback on legislative issues.

These take place on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon and on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. During these office hours, you can drop in to ask questions, receive assistance with state services, or discuss the state and local issues that matter most to you.

Fourth Wednesday: Visit zoom.us/j/92393472546 or call 312-626-6799 and enter 989-6478-3259.

In the interest of privacy, only one resident will be admitted into the Zoom meeting room at a time. Also, please remember I and my team are always happy to schedule a separate one-on-one appointment with you at a time outside of our regular business hours or virtual office hours.

Legislative Feedback

As the General Assembly’s spring session gets underway, I would like to encourage you to share legislative feedback with me. Hearing input from community members like you is how I know what bills to advocate for or stand against, and how I make sure I’m fighting for the best interests of our district in Springfield. You can contact my office with legislative feedback at any time by calling 847-485-9986, emailing Info@ RepJoyceMason.com or by sending mail to 36100 Brookside Dr., Suite LL 60, Gurnee, IL 60031.

To proactively seek out feedback on state and local issues, I also host community advisory councils on a variety of topics. Currently, I meet with four councils: a Veteran’s Advisory Council, Women’s Advisory Council, Senior Advisory Council and an Environmental Advisory Council. I meet with each council quarterly to discuss relevant issues and get targeted legislative feedback. Any resident is welcome to join any of my advisory councils. If you’d like to join a council, please call 847-485-9986 or email Info@RepJoyceMason.com. If you have an idea for a new advisory council, I am happy to discuss that with you too.

As always, I and my team are here for you. If we can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

STATE REP. JOYCE MASON ZB QUARTERLY | SPRING 2021 25
