A huge outcry from community and religious leaders met the plans of a local filmmaker to launch a “traditional Tshivenda porn” movie this week. This follows the recent publishing of an advertisement, inviting adults to buy tickets for the “DVD and live shooting”.

The new movie is the brainchild of a movie guru, by local standards, Mr Zwoluga Madega. Madega, of Hanzam’s TV Movies, started his movie business around 2002 and has become a household name in the local movie industry. He has produced numerous movies and said the latest endeavour is the result of pressure from fans.

If the plans materialise, local movie lovers will be fed what they have never tasted before. The launch of the “traditional Tshivenda porn movie”, Bush Pie 3, will take place on Youth Day, 16 June, at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre.

“We could not withstand the pressure from our fans, who wanted something new and exciting. We then decided on something very traditional, shot in a traditional Venda setting in the mountains at Ha-Manyuwa in the Nzhelele area.

The family of the woman who had allegedly hacked her threemonth-old baby boy to death said the tragedy could have been averted had they had known before that she had fallen sick with a mental condition.

Residents of Mashamba and surrounding areas received the shock of their lives when the bodies of two people were found in the bushes on Saturday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, bullet wounds were seen on the bodies. The bodies were found lying dead near the bridge along the Mashamba-Mufeba road, and the police at Tshitale have opened an inquest docket.

According to the spokesperson of the police, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the hands of the deceased had been tied behind their backs. “We have not yet arrested any suspects and therefore we have launched investigations. We are also appealing to members of the community to assist us in locating the suspect/s,” said Mulaudzi.

Local hawkers demand fair treatment Hawkers in Makhado are concerned about the fact that the municipality has increased the hawkers’ operational fees without consulting with the hawkers’ association.

According to the chairperson of the Makhado Business Forum, Mr Dickson Khoza, the hawkers were only informed of the new fee through a letter of notification which was pasted on walls and some trees around the taxi rank and some parts of town where hawkers happen to operate their businesses.

“The municipality just increased the fee from R122.40 to R172.00, without any consultation with the Makhado Hawkers Association,” Khoza said.

Khoza said that the municipality was obviously not aware of the suffering and difficulties

which the hawkers were faced with every day, because of the municipality’s lack of consulting with the hawkers on a regular basis. “Most hawkers go home each day without having generated any money, because business has become slack in this town,” he said. “They have children and grandchildren at home who need to be fed.”

According to Khoza, the hawkers have no other sources of income, apart from making ends meet here in town. He added that the main objective of the forum was to guard and protect the interests of the business community in Makhado.

“Hawkers complain that the municipality no longer provides them with plastic refuse bags,” he said.

“The municipality’s traffic

control officers harass hawkers when they cannot afford to pay the operational fee. As the forum, we are here to protect these hawkers from any kind of oppression.”

Khoza said that the forum was going to engage the relevant authorities within the municipality to try and resolve this issue before any damage was caused.

“We don’t want to see what had happened in Malamulele to take place here in Makhado as well, but there are officials in the municipality who are pushing us to that level,” he said.

According to Khoza, there are some other issues which the forum is trying to resolve with the municipality, but the forum is not getting the full attention of the relevant officials within the municipality.

The aim of the awards ceremony is to recognise excellence in community media (including print, radio and television), small commercial (print) and local media owned by the mainstream media (print).

This initiative unites more than 22 years of Sanlam Community Newspaper Awards and four years of SABC News/MDDA Community Media Awards into one big event. “The credible work done by the local media has had far-reaching effects on the awards ... Province aims at smooth initiation season Limpopo province is aiming for another deathfree initiation school season.

This was revealed by Kgosi Malesela Dikgale, chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders in the province.

Limpopo had a death-free initiation school season last year. A total of 275 initiation schools received permission to operate from June 20 until July 18 this coming season and Dikgale expressed the hope that no death would be recorded as all senior traditional leaders who qualified for initiation school permits had attended a workshop.

He said the purpose of the workshop was to brief and prepare the initiation schools stakeholders and participants on the precautionary measures to be followed in order to have a smooth process during the initiation period. “The workshop will go a long way in ensuring that Limpopo maintains a death-free initiation season,” said Dikgale.

He also urged parents to verify the legitimacy of initiation schools with their respective traditional authorities before they sent their children. He also warned that running initiation schools without permits would not be tolerated. “The department would like to put it on record that any school that starts before the starting date of June 20th will be

He warned the new ruler against segregation and favouritism regarding his subjects.

“Your duty is to lead the people, but you must also listen to what they say because you cannot be a leader without them.

Treat all your subjects equally and without discrimination.

Respect your subjects, so that they give you the same respect in return,” he added. “The new traditional leadership name is Thifhindulwi. Crocodile tears shed in Supreme Court Acting Judge Jackson Mushasha, State Advocate Ratshilumela Makhera and Adv Mbambadzeni Manwadu were locked in a lengthy argument which lasted for about seven hours in the Thohoyandou High Court last Friday.

He wept profusely and said that he had loved his girlfriend (the deceased), to the extent that he wished he were dead too.

Adv Makhera asked him if he was remorseful.

The mention of ‘crocodile’s tears’ elicited a soft laugh from Judge Mushasha, who had been looking sombre all along.

The convict’s council, Adv Manwadu, asked the court to deviate from imposing a possible life sentence and said that he should be sentenced to 20 years’ jail term and no more than that.

Adv Makhera disagreed with Manwadu, saying that Madume had proved to be a person who had no regard or respect for the community from which he came.

The probationer’s report was read and proved that Madume failed to respect his family members as well.

“His mother moved out of the home to stay in another place because he wanted to interfere with her relationship,” said Mushasha. Makhera echoed Mushasha’s words.

Man in custody after death of his mother Ms Rosina Thidziambi Tshamano, believed to be in her late 80s, was found lying in a pool of blood whilst music was playing loudly last Tuesday night, after her son had allegedly beaten and stabbed her and left her for dead.

Her relatives and neighbours tried to come to her rescue and she was transferred to Siloam Hospital.

She died on Thursday morning, however, as a result of all the blood she had lost.

The 43-year-old suspect, Nnditsheni Mafenya, shocked the entire community of Mauluma in Nzhelele when he allegedly beat and stabbed his mother and left her for dead. The suspect is described by some family members as a notorious Mr Nnditsheni Mafenya was charged with criminal. According to a family member, Mrs Linnet Itani, the gruesome death of her elder sister left a huge void in the family. “It is devastating. I don’t understand why he committed that cruel deed. We were living in fear until he was arrested,” she said.

She said she was called whilst she was in Gauteng and informed by her young sister that Mafenya was allegedly killing his mother. “When he is sober, he is all right, but when he is drunk he might quarrel with anyone and sometimes start fighting over nothing,” she added.

Mafenya was previously arrested for beating up his mother, but when he was released from custody, his mother forgave him and allowed him to stay with her again. He had also been arrested before for stabbing a community member. According to his family, he committed several criminal activities back in the 90s and he was released, following an amnesty granted by the then president, Nelson Mandela, in 1994.

Ms Rosina Tshamano will be laid to rest tomorrow (Saturday) morning in the village’s local cemetery.

The Ward 38 councillor, Cllr Thambatshira Neluvhola, condemned the incident and called on communities in his ward to ensure the safety of the elders in the community.

He said it should be addressed in the community meeting and elders should not be allowed to stay alone since it leaves them vulnerable to criminal activities.

“These people are our custodians. They should be protected and the traditional leaders must address this challenge in the community meetings,” he said.

Thulamela to apply for electricity distribution licence Stakeholders under the umbrella of the Project Steering Committee Forum in Thulamela met last week at the Thulamela board room.

The stakeholders included the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Thulamela Municipality and the Department of Energy (DoE). The chairperson, Mr Khorommbi Bongwe, who is also the chief director in the DoE, said they had decided to have regular meetings where a range of issues concerning electricity would be discussed.

“As a forum, we meet from time to time at different venues and discuss ways that could fast-track the delivery of electricity to our communities. Not long ago, before the elections, we visited this area and engaged the various communities. This goes to show that we do not come here

only when we want votes, but that we are a government that cares for its people.

Our main mandate is to give service to our people, which we are doing,” he said.

He said Thulamela was chosen because of the model they were using to electrify villages within the municipality.

“This municipality has become a model that all municipalities could follow, thereby allowing them to acquire electricity even before the cutoff date of 2016. We are very impressed by the way things are done here,” he said.

He said they were working in conjunction with DBSA, which gave loans to the department. These are then passed on to the municipality. He said they also had a good working relationship with Eskom, which was assisting in energizing all the completed projects.

“Among the other issues we discussed were challenges at some projects which are taking a long time to be completed.

We will give our support to municipalities to complete their projects fast for the benefit of our people. “Empower the local women” Well-known Vhembe education official Ms Rendani Mahamba of Khubvi, who is the wife of international preacher and world-renowned motivational speaker Pastor Sam Mahamba, was hailed as a champion of the poor and a fount of Venda traditions and culture.

She recently celebrated her 55th birthday during a lavish ceremony held at Popallin Ranch in the Musina area.

Among the guests present during the event were the likes of Bishop Isaac Dagada, Vhembe Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe, Chief Ravhalitsheni Sumbana and many members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Matibe, who is also a family friend, said he knew of the good work Mahamba was doing for her community.

“As government we commend the role you are playing in developing the community. We urge you to continue doing the good work and to empower other women in the community,” he said. He handed over presents, which included ANC regalia and umbrellas, to the family.

Pastor Mahamba hailed his wife as having been instrumental in moulding him and the family into what they are today. “When you see the type of person and family we are today, it is because of her. She persevered and clung on during difficult times, and we are very proud of her as a family,” he said.

In response, Mahamba said she was very happy and appreciated the support she got from her family over the years.

Macadamia symposium in Tzaneen The Southern African Macadamia Growers’ Association (SAMAC) will host its annual macadamia researchs symposium at Fairview River Lodge in Tzaneen on Wednesday, 4 June.

MAC, researchers, growers, and processors will get great value from the information shared but will also establish valuable networks.

Award-winning rapper on an incredible journey An award-winning rapper, Phuluso “C-Jay” Tshivhase (26), narrates his incredible musical journey on his debut album, Holy Hustle.

The vernacular rapper, who raps in Tshivenda, scooped his first ever award last December in the Tshima hip-hop category for his single track Toti.

Holy Hustle, the 17-track-album, complements his single and speaks to struggling young people, while simultaneously narrating his survival as a musician in an overcrowded musical industry. “Most people often generalise the term ‘hustle’,

and when you tell them that you are a hustler, they often perceive you as a fugitive or someone who does illegal activities to make a living,” says C-jay.

In his opinion, hustling means standing out as a young person and doing something about his life, things that would change the manner in which people perceive rappers; therefore he named his debut album Holy Hustle. His music describes his identity and narrates his survival while he was growing.

The journey began when he was a teenager during his high school years. As a young musician, he did not have any direction

and never thought that his career would prevail one day. “I never thought I would hear my music on radio. I did not have any exposure; only my family and friends listened to my music,” he said.

He suddenly became tired and stopped recording to focus on his school work. “I was in Grade XI. Tshivenda hip-hop was not even recognised, and I did not think it would take me anywhere and I stopped,” he says. In 2007 he went to Gauteng and began his tertiary education at the Central Johannesburg College (CJC); once there he couldn’t resist reviving his musical talent.

“Every day I would think of my dream and then I would do something to make it come true,” he says.

He also met with various other amateur musicians and, during their free time, they would rap.

I remember I had to copy my songs on a disc and send them, and suddenly those songs were on the airwaves,” he adds. Most of his fans responded positively to his music.

Although he was working alone, he sought help from his peers in the industry. He approached radio stations in Venda and in Gauteng to seek publicity and it worked for him. His first produced single earned him accolades and he believes that he will soon be shining at the SAMAs or Metro FM music awards.

After the Tshima awards, Manyisa Records and Venda Hustlers approached him and they are doing marketing and publicity for him. “When they approached me, I realised that they had seen potential, they’d seen a light in me. I will continue to produce good quality music and I will die endeavouring to ensure my music goes continental,” he says.

Free internet at new Mutale library The rural community of Mutale in Vhembe will have free Internet access, thanks to the opening of the new library.

The library was opened by the newly elected MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Ms Nandi Ndlane, on Sunday, 25 May, in Tshilamba.

The official opening of the library coincided with the Africa Day celebration. The event was also attended by Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe, Thovhele Vho-Vudzitshena Nethengwe and others.

Ndalane said the department viewed the library as a tool that would assist in thedevelopment of communities. “This library will add educational and economic value in the lives of community members. Although everyone will be allowed to use the facilities, the Mutale

Municipality will be responsible for this library. I humbly appeal to community leaders, parents and pupils at large to make sure that this library is safe,” said Ndalane.

Matibe said he was happy that the local community would be able to acquire knowledge for free, which would help them to develop into being productive leaders of Vhembe, the province and the country. Nethengwe said he was happy that the library was finally open after months of waiting since it was completed early last year.

Besides many temporary jobs that were created during the building process, 15 fulltime jobs were created after the opening of the library: 10 of these for security officers while five are for officials working in the library. Ndalane also handed

sport kits to six schools from the Mutale area. Thengwe Secondary, Lukau Primary, Bashasha Primary, Tshandama Proimary, Rammbuda Secondary and Todani Secondary were given five muravharavha boards, five soccer balls, five mufuvha boards, five basketballs, five volleyballs and a soccer kit.

Ndalane also used the day to encourage positive social interaction between the local communities and people from neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia and others.

The MEC also encouraged pupils to exercise in order to have healthy bodies.

“Our wish is that this library will not be vandalized and that people will not destroy it when they are angry but will guard it with their eyes and ears,” said Ndalane.

In all, 30 primary schools and 10 secondary schools participated in the Soutpansberg East Circuit Arts and Culture competition at the show grounds in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on 15 and 16 May. The quality of performances at the circuit events was exceptionally high and were thoroughly enjoyed by learners and educators.

Tshikhani Primary school continued with their record of best performance in Western Dances.

The schools in first and second positions will be taking part in the cluster competitions, which will be held on 29 and 30 May at the Makhado show grounds.

New library keeps young minds active The youth in the community of Khubvi no longer loiter idly in the dusty streets after school after the birth of a new community library.

The Murongwe Library, which is part of Murongwe Enrichment Projects (a non-profit organisation), aims to fulfil the educational, research and recreational needs of the local youth and adults. Books were mainly donated by the National Library SA and Molteno Books literacy, with the financial assistance of the National Lotteries Trust Distribution Fund.

According to the co-director of Murongwe Enrichment Projects, Vho-Ndoweni Malala, a team of volunteers, who are mainly graduates and post-matriculants, assist pupils with their homework assignments and research on different topics and subjects. “They also assist in finding solutions to other school-related challenges

through the use of available information sources,” said Malala.

The library still lacks the necessary amenities of a fully functional library, such as complete office furniture and equipment.

“The library is still in dire need of some basic resources to function effectively. Some of the needs are a large multipurpose printer, two computers and Tshivenda books,” Malala said.

Murongwe Library still provides quick information access for both primary school learners and high school pupils. There are also post-matric members of the community who occasionally utilise the library to access information on different topics.

The library has become a haven of peace and security for the youth, even during school recesses.

“When I am done doing my chores at home, I come to the library,” said Ondwela Netshid-

zivhani (10).

The Murongwe concept was inspired by the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day, where the team believes that every day is a Mandela Day. Ever since then, the library has become a centre for information for learners and the members of the community for social development purposes. “We welcome even pastors, teachers, local farmers and soccer players, who all seek field-related information,” said Malala.

Malala thanked the locals who now donate books for use in the library and said that without these people's help, the library would go no further.

The library operates from Monday to Friday. “At least around 60 pupils visit the library daily,” said Tshianeo Malala (22), a facilitator at the library.

“We open at 11:00 and close at 17:00.”

Jeremiah Mulaudzi sings of the last days New gospel music singer Jeremiah Mulaudzi, who recently released his debut album, started his musical career when he was in primary school.

As a primary schoolboy at Mandala Primary School, Mua-

ludzi (42) would sing his heart out and his voice would rise above the rest when they were singing. His talent developed and later Mulaudzi found himself featuring in church choirs. He also participated in SCM activities at the time.

Today, Mulaudzi is an accomplished artist with a large fan base.

His debut album, Peace everywhere, a 10-track offering, is doing well and the CD has made him a hit with his fans. It is also receiving huge airplay from local radio stations like Phalaphala FM and Univen FM. The CD New gospel singer Jeremiah Mulaudzi sings was recorded at about the second coming of Christ.

Mulaudzi said the debut album was a blessing to him. “I am very excited about the way things are happening. I never expected so much success from my first album. Everything is beyond expectation. I receive enough airplay and the album is very popular with my fans. I am happy that it is selling very well,” he said.

Mulaudzi sings about life experiences and issues. “On this album I am trying to make the world aware that the second coming of the Lord is near. So many of the things that were prophesied are becoming a reality. Many of us seem not to take notice of what is happening. It will be just a matter of time before God comes.

All of us should be ready for that big day. That is the message I am trying to put across,” he said.

Eight teams to participate in challenge Eight teams from Tshaulu and the surrounding areas will take part in the annual Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge that starts next weekend.

The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Begwa sports grounds last Saturday. According to the general manager of the tournament, Mr Eric Murudi, all matches will be staged at the Tshifudi Stadium.

The opening matches will be played next Saturday, June 7.

According to Muredi, the cham-

pions will receive a floating trophy, soccer kit, R2 500 cash and an affiliation fee for the coming season.

The runners-up will take home a soccer kit. The best player and the top goal scorer in the tournament will also receive trophies for their achievements.

Murudi further indicated that all the participating teams will be given two soccer balls per match.

“That implies that the further the team proceeds to the other stages of the competition, the more balls they will receive,” he added.

The teams that will take part in the tournament are: Munangwe United Brothers, Tshaulu Powerlines, Duvhuledza Flamingos, Mahagala Young Stars, Lukalo Hotspurs, Dimani Young Masters, Tshaulu Sports Academy and the defending champions, Begwa United Brothers.

According to the sponsor of the tournament, Mr Boy Nemakonde, he will continue to sponsor the tournament in the coming years.

The final is scheduled to be played on Saturday, June 28.

A sad day for Miluwani Happy Boys Themba Heroes gave Miluwani Happy Boys a day to remember when they beat them 2-0 in their MTG Soccer Challenge competition match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

Happy Boys could have sealed the game within the first 20 minutes, but their strikers were unlucky. In the 14th minute they realized that it was not their day. A defender of Heroes, Naledzani Ramathavha, handled the ball within his own penalty area and the referee did not hesitate to award Happy Boys a penalty. Zwivhuya Netshandama caused an upset by shooting

wide from the white spot.

Happy Boys did not stop fighting, despite the fact that it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Heroes. Realizing that their overlapping midfielder, Takalani Netshandama, was out of touch, Happy Boys replaced him with Livhuwani Sithubabila in the 34th minute.

Themba Heroes were not lucky enough to take the lead in the 37th minute. Their front runner, Tshilidzi Makuya, unleashed a volley from the edge of the box. The ball hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick.

The second half saw Themba Heroes create some dangerous moves from behind, with no one to give the ball the final touch at the goal finish.

No goal was seen during the regulated time and the winner was determined through penalty shoot-out.

The keeper of Themba Heroes, Ntsieni Mukumela, made his presence felt by saving three shots from the white spot while the fourth one went wide.

Themba Heroes converted two of their five chances through Vhahangwele Mathiba and the keeper, Ntsieni Mukumela.

Fatigue costs favourites the title The high-riding Ligege Secondary School, which was tipped as favourites to win the Express Store Soccer Challenge, said fatigue cost them the much-needed victory.

The school, dubbed “cup specialists” for having won many tournaments, played to 0-0 draw against Mphaphuli High School, lost 4-3 on penalties during the final at the Univen Stadium two weeks ago. Ligege received a new soccer kit, T-shirts, a certificate, a trophy and medals for all who participated in the tournament.

Speaking during the a function to honour the squad that took second prize, the coach, Mr Vhutshilo Tshifura, said he could not blame his charges as they had prepared for the tournament and worked very well until the final.

“We were well prepared and the boys were full of steam, but it was just not our day. The boys did everything what we taught them, but they just could not make it as they looked very tired.

We are just happy that the best team emerged victorious at the end of the game,” he said.

Eric Matodzi, said he was very proud of his school’s achievements. “At this school, sport is taken very seriously. We believe sport is a catalyst that builds a healthy body which in turn leads to a healthy mind. That is what we need here, for pupils to perform at their best,” he said.

He said the school had won many tournaments, including the Dreamfields, Police Crime Prevention tournament, and their volleyball team also scooped the Kagiso Trust Tournament. The winners, Mphaphuli Secondary School, won a mobile library.

Professional boxing tournament in Giyani The Giyani Town Hall will be the centre of attraction tomorrow evening as the Tshiawelo Sports and Cultural Development, in conjunction with Hlanganisa Sports Promotions, will stage a professional boxing tournament.

According to the matchmaker, Mr Ephraim Simba, for first time in the province, women will feature in the main bout.

bantam weight title champion, Bukiwe Nonina, will defend her title against Nolubabalo Nqgodelane in the main bout, which is scheduled over ten rounds. The main supporting bout will be the provincial super middleweight title bout between Ranson “Baghdad” Hobyane and Hanson Baloyi over ten rounds.

Dangerous Scorpions sting the Mangos Shandani Dangerous Scorpions booked a place in the next stage of the prestigious MTG Soccer Challenge KO Competition by beating Tshilulu Mighty Mangos 4-2 at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Saturday.

It took Dangerous Scorpions only nine minutes to stamp their authority. They were awarded a free kick after Ipfani Siphuma was brought down just outside the box. Given Sikhipha tried his luck from the free kick and the keeper of Mighty Mangos, Shadrack Rikhotso, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

Millions available for Kutama water The Vhembe District Municipality has set aside R12.8 million to address water problems in the Sinthumule area.

The money is part of the R25 million budget allocated to Vhembe by the national government to address the water shortage in the district.

Speaking to the traditional leaders and members of the community during a meeting held at the Sinthumule Tribal Offices in Tshiozwi last Wednesday, the executive mayor of Vhembe, Cllr Tshitereke

Matibe, said this big chunk of the budget had been allocated to their area (Sinthumule) because of the seriousness of their problem. He said the money would be used to revive boreholes in the areas, so that the community could get a supply of water as a temporary solution.

The money will also be used to fix vandalized pipes that used to supply water to the community.

“Where there is a need, we will drill new boreholes to make sure that our people get water,”

said Matibe. He said for each borehole a budget of R50 000 had been allocated.

Matibe said that the department would provide R205 million for the provision of pipes from Valdezia to Mooikop.

This budget, together with another R281 million from the district municipality’s budget, will help to address the water shortage in Kutama-Sinthumule in 18 months’ time. He added, however, that the project needed a total budget of R586 million to be completed.

Mighty Mangos were also awarded a penalty in the 70th minute. This after a defender of Scorpions handled the ball within his own penalty area. Rudzani Makhale made no mistake from the white spot.

Manavhela Black Aces played their hearts out when they beat Benny’s Care Development 2-1 in a Limpopo Dairy match at Tshiozwi on Saturday.

Aces were strong at the far back and in terms of their striking force but lacked cohesion in the middle of the park. The balls that threatened the defence of Benny’s were ballooned from behind.

Benny’s enjoyed more ball possession, but they couldn’t pierce the solid defence of Aces.

The boys from Manavhela deserved the victory.

From the onset their midfielders were dictating the terms and their strikers kept on unleashing rockets from outside the box. The home side came close to scoring in the 27th minute when Katlego Semenya broke loose and shot wide, with only the keeper to beat.

The game was a balanced affairk, with both sides creating some scoring chances. The first 10 minutes saw High Aims miss two clear chances in quick succession. Firstly it was Mishumo Pandelani who received a great pass from Vhulahani Gavhi and unleashed a powerful shot from close range. The ball hit the crossbar and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick. Maanda Mbedzi committed a similar blunder a little later.

Vikings took the game to their opponents soon afterwards. Their efforts did not pass without reward as they opened their account in the 19th minute. Caiphus Maphagela beat the keeper with a long-range volley. High Aims did not just stand aside and look while Vikings were celebrating their goal. They fought collectively until Rofhiwa Mavhungu scored the equalizer in the 37th minute by breaking loose from the middle of the park and finally beating the advancing keeper, Funzani Nephalama, with a ground cutter.

GTM on top in inter-municipal games The Vhembe District Municipality has successfully staged the inter-municipal provincial games. It took place on 17 May at different venues around Thulamela.

The municipal officials participated in fishing, golf, netball, table tennis, volleyball and soccer.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) won the fishing, golf, netball and table tennis (ladies), the Capricorn District Municipality won the volleyball and the Polokwane Municipality took the honours in male table tennis (males).

The team from Ephraim Mogale won the soccer, with Capricorn the runners-up. GTM finished in second position in volleyball and table tennis (male), Makhado were the runners-up in the netball and Capricorn came second in ladies table tennis.

The winning teams will represent the province during the national games at the Buffalo City Municipality in East London in September.

New equipment for CBO’s Ms Jay Tebogo Nkuna from the office of the public protector has urged community based organisations (CBO’s) to report the challenges they are facing.

She was a guest speaker during a recent conference held by the Aids Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) in Polokwane. The gathering looked

into health-related issues, ranging from HIV/Aids to gender and human rights.

The Aids Foundation is funding 15 CBOs, ten from Vhembe District and five from Capricorn District, and presented laptops, digital cameras, navigators, 3G internet cards to all the CBOs to assist them in their activities.

They threatened to score seven minutes into the match, when Mpho Mavhandu forced his way through the defence of Stars, before passing to Mashudu Nengovhela. His attempt missed the target by inches.

Stars missed two clear chances in the 30th and 34th minute. Maanda Magoro shot wide from close range, after receiving a good pass from Phumudzo Mafukata. Magoro caused another upset four minutes later. He released aimlessly from outside the box, much to the disappointment of the supporters. The scoreboard was still blank at half time.

In the 57th minute, Bennet Mamaila unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box. Dynamos’ keeper, Vhuthuhawe Netshiobvani, watched in disbelief when the ball beat him.

Dynamos lost shape in the midfield and Stars capitalized to score their second in the 76th minute. Thabo Mamburu dribbled past three defenders in a row before he released the shot.

A defender of the opponents, Mirila Mabasa, handled the ball inside his penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Bennet Mamaila converted the ball into a marvellous goal to make the score 2-0.

After the goal, Stars pressed hard in search of more goals. Realizing that their chances were slim, Stars abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the far back.

Mpho Mavhandu scored the only goal of his team in the 78th minute after beating the offside trap.

Nyathi Muvhango of Dynamos was red-carded for a second bookable offence when he argued with the referee.

Cycle race

Several roads to close during Kremetart Rated as one of the best road races since 2003, the PPC Kremetart Cycle will take place from 6 to 8 June this year.

The year 2014 will also mark the race’s 25th anniversary in the picturesque town of Makhado (Louis Trichardt). To ensure the safety of participating cyclists, there will be some road closures this year.

The main event, the 175km road race, will set off at 06:40 from the Tourism Info Village on the corner of the N1 and Songozwi Street. The 70km road race will also start from there at 08:30. This means that the stretch of road between the entrance of the Info Centre ant the N1 will be closed for vehicles between 05:00 and 07:45 and again from 15:00 until 18:00.

The first stage of the Kremetart sees cyclists taking on the 53km over the mountain to Waterpoort.

This will mean that the N1 north will be closed down completely between 06:00 and 07:45 and again from 15:00 until 18:00.

Roads which will also be closed for traffic between 06:00 and 08:30, as cyclists make their way to Waterpoort, will be the Witvlag, Bluegumspoort, Waterpoort, Musina, and Dzanani turnoffs.

One week to go!

Time is running out for entering the annual Kremetart one-day stage race.The closing date for entries is 31 May, so not only are entries limited, but the deadline is looming.

With only one week to go, excitement in cycling circles in and around Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is building up. “Everyone is working really hard to make this year’s PPC Kremetart Weekend one to remember, and we urge all our local citizens to get involved,” was the invitation from the hosts, the P&L Cycling Club.

The weekend will kick off on Friday afternoon, 6 June, while cyclists start to arrive for the big fourstage race on Saturday (7th). On Friday, a 10 km mountain bike fun ride will take place. This event will be hosted by MalJan of Jacaranda RMFM fame. Bits of the race will also be broadcast live on the Jacaranda FM. Besides the major event on Saturday, two other events will also be staged. Shortly after the start of the 175km race, the 70km road race will take place on Saturday morning, followed by the KFC Kiddies Race, promising loads of fun for families. Both of these will be hosted at the Soutpansberg Tourism Info Centre, where a wide variety of stalls will be available to buy food and other goods.

The main event, the 175km one-day, four-stage race around the Soutpansberg, will also offer more supporter points and buses this year. You don’t have to compete with the pro-cyclists, but just dust off your bike, or even be a supporter; there will be something for everybody’s taste, come the Kremetart weekend.

On Sunday (8th), following the main event of the weekend, a mountain bike cross-country Olympic event wil take place. This event will display some of the most beautiful scenery that the Soutpansberg Mountains have to offer.

Apart from local residents stretching those winter muscles, the Kremetart also brings together various local charitable and other community organisations by getting them involved in projects during the race weekend. In doing so, the Kremetart not only promotes these organisations’ causes, but also offers them the opportunity to raise funds. These include the local Ladies Circle, Round Table, schools and town/farm watch organisations.

“Our wish is that the community will be just as excited about the Kremetart as we are. The race is a financial injection into the town, and gives locals the opportunity to show off our area’s natural beauty,” say the organizers.

A goal in the 79th minute goal by substitute Rendani Ndou was good enough to keep Black Leopards in the race for promotion to the Absa Premiership. Lidoda Duvha beat Milano United 1-0 in their promotional playoff match at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Wednesday evening.

The Thohoyandou outfit must beat Polokwane City in their last match at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday to secure a place in the country’s elite league. Wednesday’s victory jacked up Black Leopards to six points, one behind Polokwane City, or Rise and Shine as they are affectionately called.

While Black Leopards will be in need of nothing less than a victory, a draw will see Polokwane City retain their Absa Premiership franchise.

Apart from their leading goal scorer, David Zulu, who is still nursing a groin injury, Black Leopards will be without their diminutive midfielder, Karabo Tsepe on Sunday. Tsepe was given his 4th yellow card on Wednesday, putting him out of action for one match. Asked how they will approach the game on Sunday, Leopards’ head coach, Mr Kostadin Papic, said that they would go all out and that a draw will do them more harm than good.

Leopards have a score to settle with Polokwane City. They were beaten 0-1 in their first round promotional play-off match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Wednesday evening.
