Dynamos tops in 16 June tournament
Easy victory for Mukula Young Santos Madombidzha Western Stars donated league points to Mukula Santos in the MMK Insurance Brokers match played at Makwarela FNB Stadium on Saturday. The final score was 2-0 in favour of Santos. The match started at a fast pace, with both sides throwing caution to the wind with their fiery play. Stars’ scorers wasted numerous opportunities. Santos was strong at the far back and the striking force department, but they lacked cohesion in the
middle of the park. The Madombidzha lads timed their passes to perfection, but lacked power. Percy Munonoka, left flank of Stars, received a beautiful pass in the 24th minute. His shot went astray. Four minutes later, Ndoza Takalani of Santos received a golden opportunity and disappointed everyone when he shot straight at the stranded keeper. Stars initially showed a spirit of commitment, but their original stamina vanished and their back-line started to leak. Santos’s first goal came in the
35th minute. Joshua Netshilindi scored after receiving a square ball from Maanda Munyai. Stars had their first taste of bad luck in the 36th minute, when Phumudzo Mafukata shot into the hands of the opponents’ keeper from the penalty area. Santos increased the score line towards the end of first half when Thuso Ramukumba scored from a free kick. Santos gained momentum as the game progressed. It was in the 76th minute that their lethal striker, Lufuno Ndou, missed a fortune.
Tshiozwi Dynamos were crowned champions of the 16 June Soccer Challenge when they beat Tshiozwi Mates at Tshiozwi on Monday. The match started at a fast pace, with both sides throwing caution to the wind with their fiery play. As if they were campaigning in the same division, Mates gave their elder brothers a run for their money throughout the game. The strong defender of Dynamos, Vhutshilo Mafunisa, proved to be a force to be reckoned with and he marshalled the defence very well. Dynamos' killer striker, Aluwani “Killer” Nedzamba,
was a pleasure to watch. He was everywhere, winning balls from behind and dishing out dangerous passes to the goal poachers time after time. Vusi Mamburu of Mates was warned with a card for obstructing Velaphi Mphaphuli four minutes towards the end of the first half. Muhangwi Mukosi of Dynamos was also booked for retaliating, after he was tackled badly by Murendeni Tshidada. It took Mates 64 minutes to stamp their authority. It was Maanda Nengovhela who brought some smiles to the faces of the Mate’s enthusiastic sup-
porters. He dribbled past several Dynamos defenders in a row and beat the opponents' keeper, Micheal Fhetani, hands down. Dynamos were all over Mates throughout the second half, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of their opponents. Dynamos capitalised on the slack defence and scored their equalising goal in the 78th minute, when Mashudu Nengovhela's shot hit the net after an excellent pass from Aluwani Nedzamba. Aluwani Nedzamba scored the winner for Dynamos after Mates' defender, Vusi Mamburu, missed the ball.
Two local soccer teams, Gogobole Home Defenders and Gogobole Bucs, each received a donation of soccer nets and 15 pairs of shin guards from Mr Nkhangweni Phadziri last Friday. Photographed during the presentation of the equipment are, from left to right, Messrs Iqbal Ahmed (Playboy Sports), Donald Ramabulana (Home Defenders), Nkhangweni Phadziri and George Maphala (Bucs).
