If we had to compare the COVID-19 spreading situation with a movie, it would be a movie which was full of twisted plots and surprises for the audiences. The most important thing is that this movie has not come to an end yet. As the 2 whole years passed by, the aviation industry was severely affected by the COVID-19. Still, there was no sign of recovery. In this battle, the aviation industry was defeated. According to the recent information of August 2021, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has officially revealed the relevant number of the air transport industry’s performances in 2020 in the IATA World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) Report. In the WATS Report, it was indicated that the COVID-19 caused negative impacts on the world’s air transport. The number of passengers in 2020 was accounted to only 1.8 billion (passengers), reducing at 60.2% when compared to the number of passengers in 2019 which was accounted to 4.5 billion (passengers). In an overview, the Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) in 2020 was reduced at 65.9% when compared to the previous year. In addition, the number of international air transports for passengers went down at 75.6%; whereas, the number of domestic air transports for passengers went down at 48.8%. As a result, the profit loss was accounted to 126.4 billion US Dollars. In the aspect of air cargo, the IATA WATS Report indicated that the overview of Available Cargo Tonne Kilometers (ACTK) reduced at 21.4%, comparing to the previous year. The rate of the load factor in 2020 increased at 7%, going up to 53.8%, which was the highest rate in the past 20 years. For the Available Cargo Kilometers (ACK) in 2020, it went down at 9.7%. It was the most shrinking period for the air cargo after the period of financial crisis which occurred in 2009.
