BOHEMISTICS, COMBINED MASTER’S The second-cycle, combined Master’s programme in Bohemistics enables students to acquire in-depth knowledge, qualifications, and abilities that correspond to the general and subject-specific competencies of a Master of Arts in Bohemistics. Students acquire a broad and fundamental humanistic education at both the theoretical and applied levels, in-depth knowledge of Czech history, literature, and culture, and specific philological knowledge in the field of linguistics. The programme qualifies students to perform demanding creative tasks and satisfy professional demands, and, above all, for independent work in the fields of research, translation, and literary and scientific critique, and for making interdisciplinary connections in the broader intercultural space. The programme has also been connecting successfully with other study subjects at the Department of Slavistics and also with those outside of it. Some of the most successful combinations include other language studies, as well as study in the fields of history, geography, sociology of culture, and ethnology.
Upon successful completion of study, students acquire the academic title of magister oz. magistrica bohemistike in … (mag. boh. in ...).*
CAREER PROSPECTS Graduates of the second-cycle, combined Master’s programme in Bohemistics are qualified for research, as well as for leadership positions at cultural and public institutions. They are eligible for employment in the field of intercultural mediation and business communications, at public and government institutions that maintain foreign contacts (predominantly in Central Europe), at cultural institutions, and as editors, journalists, critics, etc. at publishing houses and in media (radio and television). Graduates are also qualified to work as translators.
