Your input for Emmanuel Got socks? “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise”

The newsletter of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church

(The second word from the cross)

would be to turn faith into a meritorious work of my own.

MinistrE-news:

Christ’s Second Word from the Cross “When I come before the judgment throne, I will plead the promise of God in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. I will not plead any work that I have done, although I will thank God that he has enabled me to do some good. I will plead no merits other than the merits of Christ…I will not plead that I had faith, for sometimes I was unsure of my faith, and in any event that

Whatever little growth in holiness I have experienced, whatever strength I have received from the company of the saints, whatever understanding I have attained of God and his ways-these and all other gifts received I will bring gratefully to the throne. But in seeking entry to that heavenly kingdom, I will, with the thief on the cross, look to Christ and Christ alone. Then I hope to hear him say, ‘Today you will be with me in paradise’, as I hope with all my being—because, although looking to him alone, I am not alone—he will say to all.” - from “ Death on A Friday Afternoon”: Richard John Neuhaus

Your confidential input will help Emmanuel Greetings from the Internship Support Committee here at Zion! Our Committee is comprised of co-chairs Intern Emmanuel Aristide and Bonnie Sather-Kinloch, Dom Hall, Vel Neumann, Gloria Steckler, and Larry Tehse. The purpose of our committee is formation: helping to form Emmanuel into the kind of person who can serve with love and wisdom in his pastoral ministry. Our job is to support, interpret, challenge, teach and learn from our intern. The committee’s feedback will help Emmanuel understand how he might impact people from all different walks of life.

To enable us to do this, we need help from you, our Zion congregants. Members of our committee may ask (and have already asked) you to share the impact that you have experienced in your contact with Emmanuel (sermon, confirmation class, bible study, etc). We want to make it clear that this is a voluntary act and you are not obligated to share this information if you choose not to. Whatever you do share is strictly confidential within the committee. We look forward to working with our congregants in order to equip Emmanuel with the skills he needs to best serve the Lord.

Children helped “bury the alleluia” by putting away the alleluia banners in preparation for Lent. We will wait for Easter Sunday before saying and singing our alleluias again.

The name Emmanuel means ‘God is with us’ Please contact any one of us if you have questions or need further clarification. In Christ’s Love, Bonnie

Got socks?

Zion has already contributed over four thousand socks to The Lighthouse Supported Living in support of the people served there. But did you know ten thousand people come to The Lighthouse each year?

Zion needs... A Kitchen Coordinator: responsible for looking after our kitchens and keeping supplies in stock. Sunday morning coffee organizer: the name says it all!

Socks, hats, neck warmers... anything to help people in need to stay warm is welcome. Drop off our small items at Zion for delivery.

If you’re interested or want more information, please contact the office or speak to Marlene Wichert or Karen Hopkins.

Larger items like coats can be taken directly to The Lighthouse.
