พูดถึง “อะเมซอน” หลายคนคงนึกถึง
ผืนป่าดงดิบกว้างใหญ่ เต็มไปด้วยต้นไม้ บิ๊กเบิ้ม เถาวัลย์ ลำ�ธารหว้ ยละหารและ สิงสาราสัตวม์ ากมายในอเมริกาใต้ แตไ่ ม่ ต้องเสียค่าเรือบินแพงๆ ไปถึงที่นั่นหรอก นะ พบกันครั้งนี้ พวกเราจะขอพาคุณๆ ไป เยือน “ลิตเติ้ล อะเมซอน” ที่ อ. ตะกัว่ ป่า จ.พังงา
To most people, the word ‘Amazon’
means the vast, thick forest of South America overgrown with large, age-old trees with vines hanging from weaving branches. Streams of clear, cool water serve as the centerpoint where wild animals gather to drink and bathe. But there’s really no need to travel so far to experience such wonder as we plan to show you the “Little Amazon” that exists right here in Amphur Tagua Pa of Phang-Nga Province.

Although it is only a tiny forest compared to the original version we always read about in text books, it is no less beautiful or refreshing.

At the break of dawn, we got dressed in our casual outfit and drove
cheerfully from Phuket to Klong Sangnay Pier located about a kilometer from Tagua Pa Police Station intersection.

Boarding the flat-bottomed boat, we gingerly admired the
natural flora that grow along the banks like Banyan and Devil trees; some having been around for over a hundred years. These trees produce tiny little root strands that intertwine among themselves forming a delicate layer of natural curtains.

In the clear water below, a myriad of fishes and crustaceans thrive.
Among these, we saw shrimps, crabs, shells and tiny fishes which indicate a rich eco system of the area. As a whole, plants and animals are able to live together in harmony within this small piece of paradise.

Every little corner of this forest is overwhelmed with a sense of

On this rainy day, we shall take a trip to this island as it is accessible year
round. We were told that the large and small islands that surround Naka Yai provide great shelter from the storm, so boats need not worry about irregular waves or strong wind. Once there, we took an eco-approach and chose to reside in a home-stay accommodation in Naka Yai Community.

As the boat approaches, we could see people relaxing and fishing
on the long pier of Naka Yai. Bang Nab guided us to our rooms that are clean and simple, and the host of each house came to welcome us into their home.

We started the program with a walking tour around the community where we noticed vegetable gardens which the villagers grow for their own consumption. The guide explained to us about the fisherman’s way of life, like the difference between nets used for catching fish and shrimps, and that shrimps are caught during the day while squids are caught at night.

Strange but true, but our trip in the rain was not a problem in any way.
Instead, we got to see nature from a different angle; after all, the world has all of 360 degrees doesn’t it?

Afterwards, our gang took a boat to look at deep-sea fish and crab
pods, and tried our skills at fishing. It was exactly like how Bang Nab described, “If you don’t catch any fish, I’d give you my head”. We got a whole bunch of fish every time we pulled up the fishing line.

“I came to Thailand for the first time about 17 years ago and since then, I’ve been coming on a regular basis. This is my second time in Phuket. I love this place because it has beautiful nature and sceneries. This time, I am staying 11 days and so far, I’ve been to many beaches, visited Big Buddha, Khao Rang and Naka Island. I also love the fresh seafood on the island. Although it is the rainy season right now, it’s not a problem for me because I also enjoy shopping around the island.
