GCC Art-Tech School
5th Year Education Studio
Instructor: Sarah LorenzenThis project is a design of shared building for Engineering, Architecture,Art students. I want to design a space to allow people from different majors more directly communicate, and share ideas. I believe the most important thing for students is hands-on experience. We need to see things with our own eyes, do it by hand, and ask questions. The campus is build along with the mountain, so my project has two main staircase, The other function of the two staircases is to divide the rectangular site into 3 big massing, in the meantime the outdoor space of this project surrounds the two staircases. If we look at the 1st floor, we can see four outdoor spaces, two more quiet outdoor spaces in the back for students to study, and two more public in the front allowing people from campus to walk up.
Modularize ADU
4th Year Accessory Dwelling Unit Studio
Instructor: Yasushi Ishida
This project is to research the potential of box system Pre-Fab ADU in order to deal with the housing crisis in Los Angeles. Each house consists of a functional part with a specific size to meet the requirements of transportation and reduce transportation costs and reduce structural unreasonable design.
Each box can have different layout, for example, the bedroom leaves 2 ft space on the four sides of the wall, so that you can place tables and wardrobes according to your own preferences. The number of functional parts can be increased regularly according to the increase of the living size of the user. For the design, the use of a long beam system gives the ADU a larger opening, so that the occupants can have better contact with nature.
