Editor’s Note

Amongst the farewell and the keep in touch messages, amongst the promises to coming back to campus, amongst the seniors retiring and juniors taking over, we hand over this final issue of this academic year 2012-13 to you all readers. This issue is special because it is brought out in a fast track manner by the juniors, making it the only issue so far to come out in the least time. But, we have not compromised on the quality of the contents. We have Graffiti as the cover story, followed by GCL, which took place during the month of February. We had another big event at campus the GEPI process for aspirants. Read about the heroes behind making it a successful event. Drishtikon carried out activities such as GDs and movie screening. Find more about it in this issue. Also we do have an article acknowledging the senior students’ contribution to Reflections magazine. With a promise that we will back again, with a brand new issue of Reflections, in the month of August, Wish you all the best.

Sadhana Ghalsasi Chief Editor – SCIT Reflections

A SPECIAL NOTE OF THANKS TO THE REFLECTIONS SENIORS The discussions about a magazine by students of SCIT started last year during internship time, when Devesh Mathur posted about such an idea in Drishtikon FB page. He was seeking views from the audience. I liked the idea and volunteered myself. Then, we had an initial brainstorming through some excel exchanges and a structure was in place. Once everyone joined back from internship, the concrete work started. We put a team together and started working on it. And it was so fast that you can see the first issue covering the August events. Since then it has been a successful journey. As all of us know, in order to build such work, a dedicated team and their untiring efforts are required. The team Devesh Mathur, Abhay Patodi, Abhishek Dutta and Gupta, Anupam Prasad, Avichal Sinha and Hammad Malik did their best in creating the reader base for this magazine. It’s the time, now, to continue this tradition in the coming years and I am sure the current batch students will also strive to make it the preferred journal of readers. Look forward to a continued association of the seniors with the magazine in future also.

Graffiti 2013 Where all the action happened! Ruchi Nandita MBA 2012-14 February 2 and 3, 2013 has left a strong impression in the history of SCIT. Graffiti, our annual college fest was a major success in the true sense. The hard work of all the members of Graffiti paid off beautifully. What a glorious Graffiti it was this year! Students from various colleges participated in this unique event. The theme of this year’s Graffiti was “Numerogenesis” – evolution of numbers. All the teams worked day and night, be it logistics, events, creatives, sponsorship or PR team; along with all the volunteers to make the event a huge success. Senior batch students also mentored us all throughout to come out with the splendid performance. This work was not without some toll; the students had to miss quite a few classes to find time and make things work out. Coping with assignments and studies simultaneously was a huge challenge but with the support of all the teachers, it was managed well. There were many events which made this year’s Graffiti eye-catching. Advitya – the Flagship event, Cric Subasta-IPL Auctioning, Wallet 2 Vault , Virtualannihilation, XQuizIT, Round Table Rendezvous, Filler events, marketing strategy, treasure hunt, Mystery Inc. - Crime Scene Investigation and many more grabbed attention of students of different colleges who flocked in with full enthusiasm to participate in our college fest. Students from colleges like Indira Institute of Management, SICSR, IBS Mumbai, SIES Mumbai, VESIMSR Mumbai, PTVA Mumbai, SIMS and many more participated in Grafitti making it a huge hit. Under the mentorship of Savitha Mam, the event blossomed into a great one. The sponsorship list that hung from Boys Hostel terrace was long enough to reach the ground. IPL Auctioning event got an exclusive sponsorship. The college was full of excited participants who came to participate in various events. A whooping number of around 1300 students came on-campus. Many won and many didn’t, but the overall experience they shared on the handmade feedback book by our Creatives team showed how nicely they enjoyed the overall experience. The evenings rocked with DJ Nite and Band performance where the SIC campus danced their hearts out while Chinese lanterns filled the skies with their light and with the amazing ‘Grafitti’ crackers ending the show. All’s well that ends well. Grafitti’13 came out to be a magnanimous event in true terms. This triumph makes us await Graffiti ’14 with even more ardor. 1

Admissions Admissions 2013 Prof. Sadhana Ghalsasi

T

The admissions process at SCIT runs almost throughout the academic year, starting from designing next year’s admission calendar in the month of June to the candidates confirming their seats in the month of March. The GEPI process is the major activity towards which all the other activities are headed for. There are many stakeholders involved in this process – from the management, faculty, staff, students at the institute, to the external panelists, alumni and the aspirants. It is a complex activity which needs careful orchestration of its components to make it successful. The major contributor for this success has always been the SCIT students – coordinators and volunteers. The students of SCIT are involved in planning, budgeting and executing the process. Since 2008, I have witnessed the student involvement increasing year after year. The new batch sets a tougher benchmark for the next batch. This year we implemented the idea of badges, campus tour with other meticulous plans of communicating with the aspirants. The professionalism, punctuality, team work and leadership exhibited by the students in these days serve a motivation for the aspirants to follow them. We had our alumni also participating in a big number this year. Through this platform SCIT acknowledges the efforts of the student admission team.

GCL 2013 Gully Cricket League Anupam Prasad MBA 2011-13

For the first time in SIC, a Cricket tournament was conducted in which colleges from outside SIC as well as from corporate circles were invited. The matches were conducted from 16th Feb to 21st feb ’13. It was organized by the SnC committee, SCIT. The founding members of GCL are: Anupam Prasad (Batch 2011-13), Aditya Nishant (Batch 2012-14), Aamir Arafat (Batch 2012-14), Sourav Roy (Batch 2012-14) Manuj Rana (Batch 2012-14) along with Co-Founder Abhishek Savarikar (Batch 2012-14). The top two teams from this went straight to the qualifier round and rest of the teams were put in the losers’ bracket, which was used to form another pool. Then the team which won all the matches from losers’ bracket, played against loser of the match conducted between the top two teams to qualify for finals. Following this format, the two teams which qualified for finals were, SCIT (Anupam) and MMCC College. It is notable that MMCC claims to have 4 state players in their team. Drishtikon Movie Ka Andaz Mayur Pawar MBA 2012-14

T

The students of SCIT have always been innovative, and this time too it was no different. As always, Team Dristikon pioneering in this school of thought; arranged for a movie session to act as a breather for students who were caught up in the busy routine of assignments, tests, submissions and presentations during the last few weeks of the semester. This was met with an overwhelming response form the SCIT-ians who were looking for a break from their hectic routine. The movie, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, was selected for screening. It’s a hearty comedy revolving around two friends and their love-life – something which everyone could thoroughly enjoy watching together. Special trailers of the upcoming movies were screened and a short fun quiz was also organized during the interval, which kept the audience at the edge of their seats. All in all, it was a much needed escape for students from the routine; and at the end of it, everyone was left asking for more!

Drishtikon Aspiring Discussions Mayur Pawar MBA 2012-14

T

Drishtikon – the management club of SCIT has always been in the thick of things when it comes to development of business and management acumen of the students. This year, as part of the process, the 2012-14 generation of Drishti-ites arranged a series of events which included mock GD sessions and movie screenings. After attending the placement screenings of a few companies, our students realised that they needed to improve upon their communication skills. In general, students needed a program to build the required skill sets and boost their confidence. So Drishtikon decided to give the students a good platform for improving not only their communication skills but also the domain knowledge. This was the thought behind kicking off the mock GD Sessions. Members of the club brainstormed about different aspects of this session such as timings, topics, judges, format of the GD etc. and decided on the scheme of things. Finally things started rolling with the first session of mock GDs which was judged by our beloved seniors – Avichal Sinha, Hammad Malik and Devesh Mathur. Around ten students participated in the first batch of the GD and it was an extremely good session. The judges pitched in with their valuable comments such as body language, use of correct words, clarity of thought etc. After this thundering response, the next session was judged by Dr. Sufi Pore, a retired IAS officer who has worked extensively in the field of Disaster Management along with the UN. Hearing the argument of students involved in the GD, he was thrilled and marvelled at the range of thoughts about the topic of discussion, ‘Traffic makes sense’. At the end of the GD he provided some rare insights about the parameters on which they were judged. Students were able to finally understand what goes into the mind of a judge when deciding the marks. The session was welcomed with a very warm response from the students, who got to learn many intricacies involved in a group discussion and work on their competence, based on the valuable feedbacks. Drishtikon has planned to continue its constant endeavour to add value by conducting many more such sessions for the students in the future.
