Introduction: digitising hardware
Digitising is a way of taking a paper pattern and transferring it to the computer system, in other words making it digital. This requires an interactive digitising table or board (Fig. 4.1) activated by the use of a digitising mouse (Fig. 4.2), sometimes referred to as the keypad or handset. This may be a cordless version or joined to the digitiser by a lead.
4.1 Digitising board
When the handset is held against the digitising table and operated by its command keys, the pattern shape is recreated within Modaris. At the top of the handset is a transparent section containing what are referred to as crossed hairs. When digitising, the place of intersection of the crossed hairs is the point that will be transmitted to the computer so it makes sense to be as accurate as possible while digitising.
