Creating a variant

To create a variant select F8, and then variant and a new dialogue box will appear in the top left corner of the screen, just like the new model window. Enter the required name of the variant and press Enter. To open the variant, select F8 and variant, and then click in the centre of the Variant sheet. A new spreadsheet will now open (Fig. 3.16).

Select F8 – Create piece article. Click once in the centre of the pattern piece to add to the variant the pieces you require. They will now appear on the spreadsheet. A point to note is that on the main desk, the pattern piece will turn a dark blue, providing you have selected from the drop-down menu Display – Orphan pieces (Fig. 3.17). The information that you have added to each individual sheet will now be displayed in the spreadsheet as follows (Fig. 3.18). Piece name: by default there will always be a piece name, showing the model name with a unique identifier, either a number, or if you have amended to piece codes, the abbreviation. If you use the same abbreviation more than once, the system will add a sequential number to maintain its uniqueness. Acd: this will be the same abbreviation that you added to the individual sheet.

Comment: this will be the same as you input on the individual sheet. It is worth noting here that if you have made a mistake, either in spelling or inputting incorrect information in either of the acd: or comments: boxes, you can type directly into the spreadsheet box and re-write the information. The rest of the boxes now need filling in manually.
