R
omney Marsh is a lowlying coastal area that stretches from Folkestone to Dungeness and Lydd; it’s an area that has a remote feel and has historically been in the front line for invasion from France and further afield. The coastline is still dotted with curiosities including the remains of Roman forts, various towers and defence batteries.
THE CABIN
T
he Cabu site consists of several luxurious and design-led wooden huts centered around a pool and a small clubhouse with a shop. Our cabin, though compact, is well-equipped and comfortable, filled with outsized sofas, an intriguing selection of books on design and nature, a wood burner and a basic though stylish kitchen, plus a good bathroom with an excellent shower. Beds are comfortable and a well-stocked minibar is a welcome addition. There’s a private deck with deckchairs too.

ie by the pool, for one – and then hit the vast stretch of beach. Hire bikes and cycle along the coastal path to Dungeness or all the way round to Camber Sands and Rye – or take the other direction to Folkestone, where the newly restored Harbour Arm has a programme of live music and outdoor screenings with a fabulous view of the famed White Cliffs. GETTING THERE
F
or south-east Londoners, it’s just over an hour’s drive (if you’re lucky). It’s also 35 minutes on the train from St Pancras to Ashford International, and half an hour in a cab from there to Cabu. This makes it one of the most accessible coastal areas for Londoners.
