ark Twain, surely literature’s most quotable figure, famously told us to ‘throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in our sails.’ To ‘explore. Dream. Discover.’ That was all well and good for Mr Twain, but the fantasy of escaping the rat-race, of buying a one-way ticket to the middle of nowhere and truly sailing away from our safe harbours is somewhat hindered by jobs, mortgages, children and by life in general. Travel is, however, one of life’s greatest pleasures. Not a luxury in my eyes, (though this being Absolutely we have of course uncovered the crème de la crème of the travel industry for your viewing pleasure) but a necessity. A getaway, no matter how short, is a chance to escape everyday monotony and experience a new culture, cuisine, experiences and way of life. Our travel special this month focuses on three of the Caribbean’s most spectacular islands, as well as an exclusive first-hand look at the gorgeous colonial style St Regis resort in Mauritius.
