Picnic Wines

The best summer wines to enjoy outdoors this month By SHOP CUVÈE

S

pecialising in natural wine, Shop Cuvée in north London will be delivering drinks to picnickers in Clissold Park and Highbury Fields, with more locations announced soon. Here are co-owner Brodie Meah's favourite wines for a picnic in the park. Le Coste, Pizzicante Bianco, Procanico, Moscato (£23.50) is a Pet Nat built for summer. It has sherbet acidity with a huge aroma of pithy citrus, perfect to pop in the garden with friends. Cantina Giardino, Volpe Rosa, Coda di Volpe (£30.50) is an elegant rosato that has had a facelift this year with a fancy new label, making it the perfect gift. It also fits the bill as something to drink before heading out for a summer evening. Weingut Pitneur, Perfect Day, Chardonnay Blend (£22.50) is an orange wine that maintains freshness and acidity, perfect for a day of drinking wine (the clue is in the name!). It’s made with a blend of local varieties all macerated on the skins separately and blended together before bottling. The key is the chardonnay juice sees no skin contact, which adds a real vibrant, zippy acidity to the wine. Domaine Durrmann, Zegwur, Gewurztraminer (£22.50) takes all the floral aromatics of Gewurztraminer, but ferments it to dryness while maintaining a wicked acidity. It's an ultra lively, energetic wine that just jumps out of the glass. It has no sulfur additions, which really allows the wine to sing.
