381 Stehende männliche Figur Holz, matte Patina, farbige Fassung, kräftiger Körper, Gesicht mit stammestypischen Charakteristika, min. besch., kleine Fehlstellen (Zehen), feine Risse, Abriebspuren, Sockel; die westlichen Kuyu vergleichen ihren Häuptling mit einem Panther und in den Initiationszeremonien werden die Geheimnisse seiner Kraft gelehrt. Bei den östlichen Kuyu steht die Schlange „ebongo“ im Zentrum der Initiation („djo“) und ihre Ahnen und Nachfahren werden durch geschnitzte hölzerne Köpfe repräsentiert, die wohl die bekanntesten Werke der Kuyu. Figuren sind wesentlich seltener als diese Köpfe. Standing male figure wood, matt patina, polychrome paint, bulky body, face with tribe-typical characteristics, min. dam., small missing parts (toes), fine cracks, traces of abrasion, base; the western Kuyu compare their chief with a panther, and initiation ceremonies teach the secrets of the animal‘s powers. Among the eastern Kuyu the serpent „ebongo“ is the focus of initiation („djo“), and his ancestors and offspring are represented in the carved wooden heads that are best-known form of Kuyu sculpture.
