Chix Baseball Completes 3game Sweet of GR Union

The Zeeland East boys’ baseball team completed the 3-game sweep of Grand Rapids Union on Thursday, May 18, clinching the outright OK-Green championship! Max Salas pitched a 3-inning no hitter, striking out 7 batters and walking 1 in the victory.

Offensively, the Chix had 13 hits in 3 innings. Max Salas led the way with 3 hits, 1 double and 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Trevor Raade also added 2 hits while Chris Seay added a double.

Aaron Keegstra and Nick Williams chipped in with 2 RBI a piece.

Zeeland East improved to a perfect 18-0 in the OK Green. Mona Shores and Wyoming both are in second place with a 13-5 record.

East Golfers Lose by Two Strokes to Saugatuck

On Friday, May 19, the Zeeland East boys’ golf team hosted Saugatuck on the Blue nine at Winding Creek. The Trailblazers were victorious by two strokes over the Chix by a score of 191 - 193. Scoring for the team were Seniors Jake Middleton with a 41, low round of the day, Kole Meschke 48, Jace Fenlon 51, and Grady Van Dyke 53.

“We are also celebrating our three seniors who played in their last round at their home course at Winding Creek, Jake Middleton, Jace Fenlon and Kole Meschke. Congratulations on a great Senior season,” said Coach Carla Stowie.

The Chix will be hosting the 18-hole Conference Tournament on Wednesday the 24th at The Ravines Golf Course in Saugatuck.

Chix Baseball Wins West Ottawa Invite.

The Zeeland East boys’ baseball team won the West Ottawa Invite on Saturday defeating Grand Rapids Northview 9-4 and West Ottawa 5-3.

In game 1, Noah DeWitt recorded the win on the mound. DeWitt went 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 4. Connor Tietema pitched a 3-inning save in the game striking out one and only allowing 1 hit.

Offensively, Austin Keur led the way with 3 hits (one double) and 3 runs scored. Easton Remick also had 3 hits in the game, while Max Salas and Noah DeWitt each chipped in with 2 hits.

West Ottawa defeated Fruitport 2-1 in the other semifinal.

In the championship game, Zeeland East overcame a 2-run deficit early in the game to defeat host West Ottawa by a score of 5-3. Evan Owens picked up the win on the mound, throwing 5 innings and allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 6. Lukas Assa pitched great with a 2-inning save, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out 1.

Offensively, the Chix capitalized on 6 walks to go with their 5 hits in the game. Brenston Brown had a huge RBI triple, while Max Salas scored 2 runs and added a single.

Zeeland East improves their record to 30-2 on the season.
