Pre-K to 12 Education More than one million students are served through metro Atlanta’s 37 public school systems that include 1,100 elementary, middle, and high schools. Metro Atlanta is also home to 350 private schools. Georgia offers free pre-K classes for four-year-old children throughout the state. The pre-K program is a lottery-funded educational program that is voluntary for public schools and private child development centers. English-as-a-Second Language courses are available in every public-school district. Metro Atlanta has several international schools that teach in languages other than English, including German, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. There are 87 IB World Schools in Georgia. Higher Education With nearly 300,000 students enrolled in the 54 two- and four-year colleges and universities in the metro Atlanta/Athens area, businesses benefit from talent, discovery and innovation. The largest public universities within metro Atlanta/Athens are the University of Georgia (UGA), Georgia State University (GSU), Kennesaw State University (KSU) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Private universities in metro Atlanta include Emory University, Morehouse College, Savannah College of Art & Design, Spelman College and Mercer University, among others.

Approximately 55,000 degrees are awarded in the metro Atlanta/Athens area annually (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor’s). Approximately 25% of Georgia State University’s enrollment is first generation college students, and it is the #1 public or nonprofit university in the U.S. to confer undergraduate degrees to African Americans. The Georgia Institute of Technology leads the nation in the number of engineering bachelor’s degrees awarded. The school awards more engineering bachelor’s degrees to minorities and women than any other school in the country. Metro Atlanta is home to the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Consortium, the world’s oldest and largest association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The AUC is comprised of four member institutions: Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College. Metro Atlanta/Athens is home to the main campuses of seven technical colleges, which enroll more than 42,000 students a year.

LEARN ABOUT THE GEORGIA HOPE PROGRAM Georgia’s program for financial aid (scholarships and grants) is HOPE: Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally. The HOPE Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship for Georgia residents that provides assistance towards the cost of tuition at eligible public and private post-secondary institutions in Georgia. Georgia’s HOPE Grant is available to Georgia residents pursuing a certificate or diploma at an eligible college or university in Georgia.

Music

DRIVING Atlanta has a network of freeways that radiate out from the city, and automobiles are the dominant means of transportation in the region. Three major interstate highways converge in Atlanta: I-20 (east-west), I-75 (northwest-southeast), and I-85 (northeast-southwest).

METROPOLITAN ATLANTA RAPID TRANSIT AUTHORITY (MARTA) The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) provides public transportation in the form of buses, heavy rail, and a downtown light rail loop. Atlanta’s MARTA, the city's subway system is the eighth busiest in the country. MARTA rail lines connect key destinations, such as the airport, Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and Perimeter Center.

AIR TRAVEL Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest airport as measured by passenger traffic and aircraft traffic. The facility offers air service to over 150 U.S. destinations and more than 75 international destinations in 50 countries, with over 2,500 arrivals and departures daily. Delta Air Lines maintains its largest hub at the airport. Situated 10 miles south of downtown, the airport covers most of the land inside a wedge formed by Interstate 75, Interstate 85, and Interstate 285.


Atlanta’s Neighborhoods Beyond the city’s core, Atlanta’s intown neighborhoods are packed with personality. Midtown mixes elegance with culture. The Westside has become a magnet for foodies, design enthusiasts and shoppers. Buckhead blends boutiques and galleries with fabulous dining, while Little Five Points keeps it funky through bohemian grunge paired with eclectic shops and music spots. Atlanta sits at the intersection of Southern charm, creativity and sophistication. The city of Atlanta is made up of 243 neighborhoods officially defined by the city. These neighborhoods are a mix of traditional neighborhoods, subdivisions, or groups of subdivisions. The neighborhoods are grouped by the city planning department into 25 neighborhood planning units (NPU). These NPUs are "citizen advisory councils that make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on zoning, land use, and other planning issues". There are also a variety of other widely recognized named areas within the city; some are officially designated, while others are more informal. It is easy to fall in love with this beautiful city and be inspired by it's endless possibilities. And with 243 neighborhoods to choose from, the possibilities are truly endless!

POPULAR NEIGHBORHOODS Old Fourth Ward - This neighborhood best known for the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site. East Atlanta - A creative little neighborhood with East Atlanta Village as it’s main area of shops and entertainment. Poncey Highlands - Most homes in this location are within walking distance to the Atlanta Beltline and Ponce City Market. Midtown - Midtown is the center of city life situated between Downtown to the South and Buckhead to the north. West Atlanta - A more industrial side of town with a popular design and entertaining district. West End - An area known for its rich African American History, this area is home to Atlanta’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Chastain Park - North of Buckhead, Chastain Park is a great community with frequent events, its own sports teams and an amphitheater which hosts some of the best concerts in the city. Sandy Springs - Close access to I-285 and 400 make this area ideal for those commuting to work north of the city. The topography in this areat makes for some great scenery. This is also the location of the new Service Master headquarters. Dunwoody - Also a great location with easy highway access, there is a Dekalb and Gwinnett county side. Dunwoody offers the quality of life the suburbs offer while still being close proximity to the city.
