About the author Dinah Bornat is an Architect working in Hackney and a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London. Dinah studied architecture at the University of Liverpool and University of East London before qualifying as an architect in 1996. She worked at Edward Cullinan Architects before setting up her own practice, Bornat Architects, and then forming ZCD Architects in 2013 with Cordula Weisser and Zoe Smith. She has a MSc in Planning and Urban Regeneration from UCL and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Dinah has taught on the MSc and MArch courses at the University of East London since 2009, co-running design units. In 2014 she initiated a pilot research project with her MArch students, looking at external spaces on six housing estates in Hackney. As an architect in practice, Dinah has worked on a wide variety of projects; including higher education facilities, schools, art galleries and housing. Through her work she is committed to a high level of design, sustainability and social purpose. Research provides ZCD Architects with a unique level of knowledge which they use to develop projects, share with clients and offer for collaboration purposes on other initiatives.
