Zara Syed

As a high school student at Newark Academy, I embrace the roles of Artist, Activist, Athlete, and Author. I actively participate in Model Congress, contribute to The Minuteman Newspaper club and play on the NA varsity soccer team and STA soccer club. My passion for writing extends to articles addressing food insecurity, social justice, and other issues prevalent in our society today. Inspired by role models like Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the trailblazers of the USWNT who tirelessly fought for pay equity, I am dedicated to making a positive impact through my work. Food insecurity has always weighed heavily on me. The unprecedented challenges of the pandemic during 5th grade prompted me to explore the issue and use my talent to alleviate hunger in a small way. In 2020, I founded Good Intentions, a non-profit initiative dedicated to raising funds, awareness and exploring solutions to combat food insecurity. 100% of the proceeds from the products I design are donated to fight hunger.
