do good. work hard. make good choices. be brave. grow. be good. measure twice, cut once. repeat.

By the time this Culture Book is released, I will have been part of the Zappos family for over eight years. Defining the Zappos Culture has become harder in some ways and easier in others. Ultimately, it is the people that define the culture of our company. I have watched Zappos grow from 80 to 800 to over 1,300 employees in Las Vegas alone. The growth in KY is another story. (A story most likely told in these very pages.) Change naturally comes with growth of this nature. Change in systems, procedures, buildings, services, desks, coworkers, products, benefits, carpets, bistro food items, team names, department names, tour points, company logos, and more. That’s a lot of change, and I have barely scratched the surface. This is why I want to recognize that we are a culture of change. Change can be f’ing scary; I have been scared of some changes around here myself. Looking back, however, it has made us a stronger family and a better company. Here’s to driving and embracing change! I applaud the Zappos family members that face change head-on and break through to the other side.

I *heart* Zappos and our culture! Our culture is why I’m here. Zappos has sooo many good people, and being a good person is what I feel we’re about. Our people, good people: ~Are positive ~Are always happy and excited for a chance to help someone ~Smile : ) ~Never judge ~Never take part in silly rumors or gossip ~Are conscious of their rectitude ~Care about the whole, not just personal gain These are just a few of things that I see around me that remind me that we are a family of good people.

employee since 2010 I am a recruiter here at Zappos and get asked almost daily by candidates what our Zappos Culture means to me. The culture here means so many things to me but our Ten Core Values come to mind when I am asked this question. Here at Zappos, it is not about being just like everyone else; we are valued/appreciated for our differences. At Zappos, it is all about stretching yourself and making the most of each day in a positive way and supporting and encouraging others as they do the same. At Zappos, everyone suggests new ways of doing things and our ideas are embraced and welcomed, imagine that!! It is also about having some fun along the way … did I mention we have parades!?! It is about having a higher purpose than your own and sharing it with everyone you meet and speak with … did I mention I recruit at Zappos and speak with a lot of people!?! Did I mention I love my job :)

employee since 2006 The Zappos Culture is more than what goes on in the office. It is the relationships we form and the friendships we make. You can’t find that anywhere else. I never have.

employee since 2006 The Zappos Culture is what it is because we allow people to be who they are. We allow them to express their individuality in their own creative ways. This means the boundaries of what our Culture can be is constantly being pushed by new ideas. I feel this is what sets Zappos apart. It is much easier to cultivate a relationship with someone when you know who they really are. I think this gives Zappos such a great team and family quality and ultimately what makes our Culture unique and special.
