Campeón Azteca Round 2

I

t was a big challenge, but Zanfer, Tecate and TV Azteca decided to take the bull by the horns, improving what needed to be improved and bringing to audiences the second season of Campeon Azteca, Round 2, which proved to be a success knockout as a showcase for the best bantamweight prospects in Mexico. Guided by Francisco Franco, marketing manager of Zanfer and creator of this reality show, the production put aside the two-division format featured in the previous season and took the right decision leaving just one, the bantamweight, maybe the division that has brought more joy and the best results to Mexican boxing. High profile and competitive bouts with incredible sell-outs in each presentation reflected that the decision had been the right one, the more so when audiences in Mexico, Monterrey and Merida realized the level of competition, quality and performance on the ring offered by each fighter in every clash. The final combat (OJO ‡¿SE LLEVÓ A CABO, O SE LLEVARÁ A CABO?) TOOK PLACE / WILL TAKE PLACE at the Arena Tecate Box Tour, in Mexico City on December 16. After three months of intense activity, Daniel Rosas and Felipe Rosas Oru-

cuta will be the ones to dispute the final showdown in a match of curiosity, as their coaches had a long and fascinating history that ended with the (OJO ‡ ¿TRICAMPEONES MUNDIAL como en el título de una cartelera, O TRICAMPEONATO MUNDIAL?) TRIPLE WORLD CHAMPIONS / TRIPLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP of Marco Antonio Barrera. Yes, Rudy Perez, Orucuta’s coach, will clash with his students, Jorge and Marco Barrera, who will be at the corner of the ‘Bad Boy’.

THE ROAD TO A DREAM But how did these two bantamweights got there? The first to see action in the tournament was Rosas, who knocked out Luis Valdez dramatically, then dispatched Genaro Camargo in the same way to close with a great victory over Mario Macias in a fight that was an early final to many fans. Orucuta the ‘Rooster’ (Gallo) had a low start but got better with every round. He first defeated Adam Osuna in his debut and later did the same with Jose Carlos Vargas in Monterrey, finally in its third successful bout of the tournament stopped Enrique Bernache in two rounds in Merida to finish as the second runner-up.
