Dear Key Club Family,

As my time as President of our Key Club draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we ' ve all shared. From the moment I joined as a sophomore, I knew that Key Club would become an important part of my high school experience. How little did I know just how much it would shape me into the person I am today.

As a historian, I poured my heart into every volunteer opportunity, capturing our experiences in our scrapbook that ultimately earned us first place. Through these endeavors, I learned that leadership is not about standing alone, but about standing together, united in our shared goals and passions.

Now, as I bid farewell to Key Club and embark on the next chapter of my life, I am filled with gratitude for all that this organization has given me It has taught me the true meaning of leadership, instilled in me a sense of responsibility towards others, and shown me the immense impact that we can have when we come together with purpose and passion

I recently ran for an officer position in West Brook’s Key Club. I was elected as the club’s Webmaster and am excited to start my new position later this year.

The election was a fun and straightforward process. I was hesitant to run at first, but I decided to at least try, and the worst thing that could happen to me was that I would stay a member of the club. As it turns out, I ran unopposed, so the process was very simple and not as stressful as I anticipated it to be. I gave a short speech, and at the end of our meeting, they officially announced who the officers were for the following year. Everyone in the other positions was a friend of mine, so I became enthusiastic about the next year of Key Club.

I look forward to being the new Webmaster. My brother was the Webmaster his sophomore year, so I am essentially following in his footsteps. I have run a couple of social media accounts for other various clubs, and I am interested in the creative side of things, so being in charge of the Instagram and website seemed like the perfect role for me. I want to impact the club by transforming our social media. I plan to make social media more interactive with students, and I also would like to give it a theme to look aesthetically pleasing. I want to transfer this theme over to our website so they can match and be more cohesive. In addition, I hope to start a TikTok account for our Key Club to create a more entertaining environment and add another social element for us. Hopefully, this will all make the club seem more energetic and fun, and maybe it will even recruit new members. I am eager to leave my mark on Key Club next school year!

SOCIAL ME

It is the end of the year, how has Key Club made you grateful?

How has the new year reignited your passion for Key Club?

Does your club use social media to promote communication? If so, how?

What made you “fall” in love with Key Club?

As I prepare to walk across that stage, high school diploma in hand, I can't help but reflect on what Key Club means to me. For the past two years, Key Club has been a constant in my high school career, a source of comfort, growth, and purpose.

At the start of my freshman year, I remember looking around for a club that I would feel most safe at. When I saw the Key Club stand, I immediately thought “Is this club about keys?” As funny as it sounds, I wanted to sign up with my friend after finding out it was for community service. My Freshman year was filled with love for working with other people.

Throughout my time in Key Club, I have found myself grateful for multiple things. Key Club is somewhere where I could always experiment with my talents and even stand out when I believed it wasn’t necessary to. Developing my leadership skills, my writing abilities, and my community-related experiences is something I will never take for granted in 2023.

When I first joined Key Club, I was shy and uncertain, looking for a way to make a difference. Little did I know that this organization would become a second family to me, a support system that would help me discover my passions and develop a stronger bond with my other friends.

Through Key Club, I've had the opportunity to participate in various service projects, from cleaning up local parks to volunteering at local awareness walks, like The Altzimers Association. These experiences have taught me the value of hard work, empathy, and compassion. I've learned to appreciate the little things in life and to cherish the moments that bring joy to others.

Becoming an Editor has allowed me so many more opportunities that I could have never envisioned. Trying out for the position I thought there wasn't any way I could be elected especially when I felt as though no one took me seriously. Flash forward I am looking back at the pictures in my camera roll remembering LEDCON 2023 and seeing myself along with other officers get pied in the face. Being welcomed into a space like Key Club is something I will never take for granted. It has helped me come out of my shell to view what will be next in my future.

I've always envisioned myself writing after I graduate its something I have always loved doing. To write, read, and edit articles every month is one of my favorite things to do. I have become a better writer grammatically and intellectually. Developing this new skill will help with my college essays and my professionalism going into the workforce.

Now, It’s my sophomore year and my love for Key Club is still the same as ever. I learned how to do new things and to be independent. My view from freshman year changed in a span of a few weeks. I found the club I was looking for; it provided me with a safe space and people I could bond with. High school can be tough for every student, especially learning how to adapt to a new environment. It’s important to have a club that will back you up when things get stressful. Though as a student, you have a responsibility to maintain your job as a member of the club. It’s never easy to keep up with everything at once, but I learned that you can show your commitment to the community while building friendships through volunteering.

Key Club has also given me a sense of belonging. I've formed lifelong friendships with fellow members who share my passion for service and my desire to make a positive impact. Together, we ’ ve supported each other through thick and thin and have notified each other what is going on in the Key Club meetings when one of us can’t show up.

As the 2023-2024 Key Club Webmaster, I use social media platforms every day to promote our club and what’s happening. Instagram is very popular. many of the members have Instagram already so it is very easy to check on updates for anything new happening. Instagram is easy to navigate and allows me to be creative. Our club’s website is another awesome platform I use to keep everyone updated on upcoming projects or important details dealing with projects. the positives of Embracing social media for club engagement offer a plethora of advantages. Firstly, it provides a cost-effective and accessible means of reaching a broader audience, enabling clubs to attract and engage members from diverse backgrounds and locations. Moreover, social media platforms empower clubs to establish a vibrant online community where members can share ideas, discuss topics of interest, and foster a sense of belonging. Promotion and event management become more efficient through the rapid dissemination of information, utilizing visually appealing content and event pages. Social media metrics and analytics provide valuable insights into member engagement and preferences, enabling clubs to tailor their activities and communications effectively Additionally, social media platforms facilitate realtime interaction and feedback, fostering transparency and a stronger connection between club leaders and members. To every positive there is a negative, Despite the numerous advantages of utilizing social media in club management, it’s not without its challenges. One of the most prevalent difficulties is the constant need for content creation and maintenance. Keeping an online presence active and engaging can be time-consuming, requiring regular updates, posts, and responses to member inquiries. Additionally, maintaining a consistent and appealing visual aesthetic can be demanding. Furthermore, navigating algorithm changes on social media platforms that affect reach and visibility can be frustrating. Balancing privacy concerns and ensuring the safety of club members in an open online environment can also be a delicate challenge. Finally, dealing with negative comments or online conflicts necessitates effective moderation and conflict resolution strategies. These challenges highlight the importance of a thoughtful and adaptable approach to social media management for clubs.

Key Club was amazing ever since entering as a Freshman. I remember my first event clearly. volunteering at the football concessions was amazing. The team building skills I practiced while working with staff along with interacting with customers made me feel a part of something great: a team. I knew that this club would be something I would dedicate a lot of time to. Going to meetings, I felt incorporated and involved. We talked about meeting agendas, had fun events, and got to know each other better. Best of all, we were providing a difference. My favorite event is working at the Giving Field. At this garden, I would help in a multitude of activities. I would weed, move supplies, and even plant flowers. Apart from this event, I love working at Some Other Place, a soup kitchen for the homeless. I loved making meals and handing them out. I felt like I was helping my community in the rawest way I could. The unfiltered interaction with my community is what makes Key Club special. With the like minded people that worked with me, it was evident that I was a part of a team that shared the same values of supporting others. Ever since I was a freshman in high school it only made sense to become an officer due to the way in which I did fall in love with the act of helping those in need. It has served me with great purpose and has shown me what to look for when I go to college. I am now president of the Red Cross and Medical Club, and looking to go to school to be in the medical field. Key Club has given me opportunities than I ever believed was possible and that's why I fell in love with it.

Being there for my community is something I am always grateful for when it comes to Key Club. Before Key Club, I had no idea how much volunteering helped those around my town. To put perspective on projects that require awareness and funding is incredibly valuable to me now. Any time you volunteer or you listen to a meeting you learn a piece of information about help that is further needed.

The new year has had a significant impact on my passion for Key Club. It's like a fresh start, full of new opportunities and possibilities. As I reflect on the past year and set goals for the future, I feel a renewed sense of enthusiasm and dedication towards Key Club. The new year has given me a chance to evaluate my involvement and think about how I can make an even greater impact. I've been brainstorming ideas, reaching out to fellow members, and collaborating on new projects. It's exciting to think about all the ways we can contribute to our community and make a difference in the lives of others. Additionally, the new year has reminded me of the importance of self-care and balance. It's essential to take care of ourselves so that we can continue to serve others effectively. This year, I'm focusing on finding ways to recharge and stay motivated while juggling my responsibilities. Overall, the new year has reignited my passion for Key Club and reminded me of the incredible power we have to create positive change. I'm looking forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead and the impact we can make together as a team. Let's make this year the best one yet for Key Club!

I’ll be attending my first LED CON in April. I'm excited to meet fellow members from across the region, to learn from their experiences, and to share my own. I'm eager to gain new insights, develop my leadership skills, and return to my club with renewed energy and inspiration.

On November 11th of this year, the Beaumont West Brook swim team hosted a home swim meet. Even though this meet ran like regular, there was one huge difference: the presence of the cans. Instead of using money as a form of payment, the West Brook swim team took canned goods. There was a five-dollar entry fee; however, spectators had the opportunity to pay in five canned food items instead. Heat sheets weren’t sold for three dollars; they were given out for three canned goods. The swimmers themselves couldn’t skirt around this change, either. To be able to participate in the meet, each swimmer had to bring one can for every event they were racing in. Soon, these goods piled up in the locker rooms. This new form of payment wasn’t decided on a whim, rather, this tradition has been done every year. At the end of the meet, all the cans will be donated to Some Other Place, a local soup kitchen for the homeless and in-need. This year, we got so many cans that fitting them all in the back of the transport van was difficult, and required some Tetrislike skills. The meet itself was electrifying. Spectators in the stands, as well as teammates on the sidelines, cheered for swimmers in every race. The energy was high and team spirit could be measured by how loud the cheers grew. From the very first event, the girl’s 200 medley relay, to the last event, the boy’s 200 yard freestyle relay, the encouragement and support did not let up. Every competitor tried their best, swam their hardest, and contributed to the competitive atmosphere in the pool. Often, swimmers themselves could be found cheering after their race, excited as they swam their fastest yet, gaining a new PR. Teams fought hard and there was no doubt in anyone ’ s minds that everyone gave their all. At the end of the day, the West Brook swim team won the meet, not only getting a nice plaque but also hundreds of canned goods for a greater cause.

For me, it's a reminder that even the smallest actions can make a big difference and that kindness and compassion can change the world. As I look to the future, I know that the lessons I've learned and the memories I've made through Key Club will stay with me forever.

Key Club completely changed my view of community service, I learned how to appreciate it and provide help with my resources. As a two-year member, I deeply appreciate every member of the club and encourage new members to learn through Key Club. I believe that what you learn will serve as your element as a person. From thinking about keys to using your knowledge as a key to serve our community and school proves a lot. Being a member of Key Club is an opportunity that I'm glad I took throughout my high school career.

I feel powerful with the information that has been given to me this year and the amount of experiences I have learned by just being an officer for my first year. I am grateful for my Key Club and my community.

What do you find enjoyable about volunteering for your school’s football concession stand?

As Key Club members, we strive to serve our communities and grow as leaders. To achieve these goals, it's essential to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment. Here are some pieces of advice for the next term I think all Key Clubers should know:

As a Hispanic member of Key Club, I've had the privilege of being a part of a diverse and inclusive community like Key Club that values and celebrates individual differences. This month, we ' re recognizing two important events that showcase the beauty of our diversity: Black History Month and Lunar New Year.

Be proactive: Take initiative in planning service projects and events, and take your time with others. Even if you don’t have time during Saturdays or Sundays there are other ways to contribute to your community. Such as fundraising, collecting something, or even donating items. There are so many different ways to get involved and truly help people!

Communicate effectively: Keep other members informed about upcoming events and deadlines through regular meetings and updates. Life does get the better of us sometimes so if you can or cannot show up for events try to keep advisors and officers in the loop. Seeking guidance, don't hesitate to ask advisors or experienced members for help when needed. Especially while volunteering its important to articulate your words with people, speech is has the ablitiy to connect the commuinity.

Embrace creativity: Bring new ideas and approaches to service projects and events to keep things engaging. Key Club would be nothing without people who continually engage with the community and it is hard to do that without fresh new ideas. If you know of a church, hospital, or even organization that needs help reach out to the advisor. Along with that we always need a creative brain to get us through on how to go about a project. Let that creative spark light the way to success!

As someone who enjoys watching football and supporting my friends play for the band, stars, or cheer; football concession stands made it memorable for me. My friends and I always take the opportunity not just because of the experience but the memories we make with our volunteers. Football Concessions made us realize how teamwork is important in order for us to achieve our goals inside and outside the stands. When we got to our stadium, they told us that they needed more people on the visitor side, with no hesitation we said yes to the opportunity and made our way to the other side. As much as possible, we try to set a role for each one of us to make our work much easier and enjoyable for us. I remember when we would hear cheers all the way to the other side of the stadium because we scored, though we could not see the players, we still had a good time getting to know each other and building harmony. Football Concession can be a pressure, especially with the amount of people wanting to get snacks and enjoy the game. You need to make sure you are fast and also careful with how you handle the food. My favorite highlight is probably the “ super overload” that one of our customers ordered. It was nice to see his big smile after we achieved the type of Nachos he wanted. Football Concessions taught us a lot of things that are an advantage for future circumstances. We learned how to communicate with each other, build friendships, and of course, have fun. If someone asked me “Would you volunteer for a football concession again?” I would say yes about 13 times. Football Concessions might not be for everyone but it’s something that I would recommend, not just for the hours that you will get but for what you will learn at the end.

Our school hosted its 2nd annual trunk-or-treat on Halloween. Hosting a trunk or treat is a perfect community activity, especially because it offers a safe and festive environment for families to enjoy trick-or-treating from the trunks of decorated cars. Like any other trunk-or-treat event, the area was laden with decorated cars. A variety of different clubs participated, and the diverse personalities of each club showed through the unique car decorations. Our very own Key Club was showcasing our love of minions and “serving since the dawn of time”, like how the minions were serving Gru. Our Key Club decorated the van as a minion, and the members helping out also dressed up as minions. For this occasion, even our club’s president dressed up as Gru, wearing a bald cap and Gru’s signature all-black outfit. Key Club members kept a bright smile on their faces as they passed out candy to the many children walking by. When the kids came around to get candy from us, they were delighted to witness our silly getup. Many children’s eyes lit up when they saw Gru and all of his minions holding baskets of candy. The joy and excitement from the children was contagious like a wildfire. Witnessing the sheer delight on the children’s faces and watching Gru and his minions fight over the candy basket amplified the falltime’s festive feel. The atmosphere was filled with background music, chatter, and laughter, creating an enchanting experience for all of our volunteers and the families there. Knowing that we played a part in creating such a memorable night for families is immensely gratifying. Trick or treating always captures the essence of Halloween spirit, and there is no better way to boost that spooky spirit than hosting a trunk or treat that is both convenient for our community’s families and a blast for our school’s volunteers. What made this trunk or treat event truly magical, however, was the joy spread and the memories created.

Overall by embracing these values, the next term of Key Club can be even more successful, inclusive, and fulfilling for all members. Being more productive within our communities and high school lives. Let's work together to positively impact our communities and grow as leaders.

Growing up in a predominantly Hispanic community, I didn't one hundred percent understand the struggles and triumphs of other cultures. But through Key Club, I've had the opportunity to learn about and celebrate the achievements of Black individuals who have paved the way for me and countless others. Being exposed to different cultures has inspired me to learn more about the history of others and how it translates into an inclusive club such as Key Club. Simultaneously, I've also had the chance to experience the rich traditions and customs of my Asian friends during the Lunar New Year. I've tried delicious foods, learned about the significance of the red envelope, and even attempted a few dance moves. It's been incredible to see how our club comes together to honor each other's heritage and culture. In Key Club, diversity is more than just a buzzword – it's a way of life. We understand that our differences are what make us stronger and more compassionate individuals. By celebrating times within the year like Black History Month and Lunar New Year, we ' re honoring our fellow members' cultures learning about ourselves, and growing as a community. For everyone to have an equal voice in a student-led organization says so much about Key Club as a whole. I'm proud to be part of an organization that values diversity and inclusivity. I've found a sense of belonging and support among my fellow members, and I know that our diversity makes us unique and powerful, especially in high school. By embracing our differences, we ' re creating a brighter, more compassionate future –one that I'm honored to be a part of.

Embrace inclusivity: Make sure to welcome and involve all members in activities and the decision-making processes. Key Club is one of the biggest student-run organizations so diversity does matter. We all have different backgrounds and ways of going about things so be mindful of what collaboration can do to support members to achieve common goals.
