REUSING WASTEWATER FOR THE DEVELPMENT OF MODREN OASIS- NAKHAL CITY (OMAN)

The task is to find a way to reuse the waste water in typical neighborhood like Nakhal town and i the same time making a new modern oasis style like the traditional oasis. The main question is why the green still in the old oasis but not in the new? And why is that ?happening . What are the main problems of these phenomena Using the most modern way in the world such as constructed wetlands is adding a new .and important element in Oman future The vision 2030 shows that there is a scarcity coming to the world and we need to do .something about that The main task for me is to study the constructed wetlands and what are the main .perimeters before designing

OVERALL SITE PLAN

TOPIC WATER is an important natural element since the start of life. Many settelemnts started to grow around the water side. The modren way to defind water beds is to say oasis whic is an isolated area of vegetation in a desert, typically surrounding a spring or similar water source, such as a pond or small lake. Oases also provide habitat for animals and even humans if the area .is big enough Groundwater is the main water source representing 92% of the total renewable water resources. The natural water resources comprise two main resources "renewable" and "non-renewable". The "renewable resources replenished from rainfall and stored in under groundwater aquifers, the quality of groundwater from aflaj and wells located in the upper reaches of catchments throughout Northern Oman is generally suitable for domestic and agricultural purposes

INFRASTRUCTURE AND WIND DIRECTION

MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE DESIGN

To start the design phase , we have three main elements which are the building typology , size of constructed .wetlands and trees placment

Residential houses stories 1-2

Small wetland next to each house 1-The size is one hectare 10,000m2 houses = typical Omani villas 15.5 by 30 = 465m2 2-10 all give us 210 * 10 = 2100 L/H = trees planted in the free space which is around 3-33 each needs 20L/d = 33*20 = 660L/d The inner streets around = 1446 m2 4The wetlands first one is 454.5m2+ 360.9m2 = 915.4m2 5-

There are main parameters we need to look at before designing the wetlands 1- type of buildings one family water usage per day (1050 L/d) for 2each house - one person = 150 L/d Wind direction should be with the wtlands 3direction to take the smell The spitic tank should build in a slop to bring 4the waste water = zero cost

Commercial and mixed use buildings stories 3-4

Governmental and Industrial buildings stories 6-7

Medium size wetland located in the middle of the boulevard The largest wetlands act as a border between the highest buildings and small villas

RECREATION OF URBAN DESIGN QUALITIES ALONG OLD VILLAGES, DARSIT AND AINT CITIES IN OMAN Muscat Municipality has framework plan for the redevelopment of old neighbourhoods such as Muttrah, Al Hamriya and Ruwi. The Muscat municipality will launch a plan for the implementation of a comprehensive urban development of these certain areas with infrastructure services “Oman newspaper”. The Musicality concentrates in these old villages because they want to save them, by .redeveloping and urbanizing them for to be used for appropriate means Taking in mind that solving much problems and conflicts in the old villages will benefits all sides: the people and the government. This will decrease the people needs to migrate to the city centre itself because of the appearances of all services there, the better life quality, less traffic, comfortable walk ways and more attractive places like Qurum beach, malls, hotels and more facilities in the public parks. I founded my self-interested in this topic because I live in such old village in Muscat and I see that it need so much help from the government side. My family and I decided to live in another city because of many problems that my village facing for example: traffic jam in the morning. Which is caused by the poor infrastructure in these old villages such as Muttrah, AL-Hamrya, Drasit, Aint .and Wadi Adi, ……. etc As Y PULSE of Oman stated that “A massive redevelopment of Muscat’s historic Muttrah district has been planned, with Italian engineering company Sering International appointed as the design consultants for the project. The aim is to redevelop one of .”Muscat’s most iconic areas to make it more modern, while retaining its current atmosphere and character .As a reference, this article shows similar aims of redeveloping and solving problems of the oldest cities in Muscat as mentioned before, the topic of integrated urban development is an open book, the task aims on a micro urban revitalization of .one area or two located next to each other and sharing the same cost line as well as sharing the same phenomena’s

Population growth is a constant means in any development of a city. Oman has a dramatic growth in population through the years; as a result the cities are developing capital, Muscat city being the heart of Oman is the first developing city. It is also known for its linear strip that separates the coastal regions from the mountainous area coastal regions along Muscat are seen as an advantage for touristic benefits. However, it is forgotten that most the villages in Muscat started to appear along the cost to the strategic location, job opportunities, availability of water and verity of food sources. Therefore, this regions loose there true attributes and meaning to why they .functioned as

The topic of urban revitalization has been a question for years now, due to population growth and the increasing demands from the population in villages and cities. A .by, the population of certain coastal region villages have been rapidly changing. As a result, dead areas have been created for refuse purpose

Aint Village

: CONCLUSION By comparing, Aint is smaller village than Darsait very organized houses and roads. But almost all the houses are without boundary walls, Darsait is older than Aint because the first houses started to appear exactly next to the cost line and all of them were made from mud. Then, the people started to build houses in random way near the coast line; most of them is without boundary walls. After years Darsait started to grow in linear .shape to have apartments and villas

: LEGEND QURUM HIGHWAY MAIN ROAD NEIGHBORHOOD ROADS BUILDINGS DIRECTION TO SCHOOL COAST LINE CONNECTION BEACH TRAFFIC NODES

: L O C A T I O N The place called Darsait(Aint village), it is basically an old village started to grow since 1985. The village itself isolated by mountains and costal line from the North West side. Since 25 years ago a serious topic was raised by the citizens about many conflicts in Darsit (Aint), such as the sewage system in both Aint and Darsait: casing water and air pollutions, construction waste of Lulu market was poured in Aint beach , the sea side development area in Aint. As well as, peoples demands such as no proper parking, no public park, they suggested to build Marine Park, fisher men shelters, comfortable walk ways, more facilities like restaurant and public bathrooms. And one main problem that area is facing is the traffic because of the Indian school and the .government school location in Darsait village

1-FIGURE GROUND PLAN 1:5000

: C O N C L U S I O N The project site can only access from the Qurum highway heading towards Muttrah, taking the Darsait turn o after the Cave complex in Qurum heights and follow the road until you see a sign .for Aint, take the right side and follow the slop. Or take the left side to reach Darsait neighborhood However, those two villages has strategic view from costal side and easy access from Qurum heights,.The main problem we can see in this map is the poor infrastructure of the place and the traffic jam caused by the narrow streets and shortage of parking next to some areas like the .Indian schools

2-Road hierarchy, connection and Traffic plan - 1:10 000

: C O N C L U S I O N This area famous for fishing trade because of the location, the majority work in fishing trade and they live from this job. However, this area has range of high mountains along two sides. So it is almost isolated place, calm, full of nature and attractive. Aint a village has been built in top of the mountains isolated completely from every sides, has a wonderful top view to the sea. In middle of Darsait there is natural underground water run from here and reach Wdi Kabir, cases problem of bad smell and aecting the .place beauty. But it could be used to benefit the place

LAND USE PLAN 1-10 000 4-

Most the building is residential buildings, which will benefit the project, so we are attracting the locals to come and enjoy the new facilities in my project. However, in Aint they have a small market place in the beginning of the area which full of commercial building followed by some mixed use and the rest is residential buildings. We can notice that they have in the middle of the village a small land mark which is the Masjid, no public facilities and shortage of public buildings. As well as, the place next to the coast line is not developed and they pouring .the construction waste there which cause problems In Drsait, next to the sea full of residential buildings and some grocery shops run by the locals. There is no public parks, the only park they have and it is shown in the analysis map turn to workers camp. The location of the .Indians and the Omani government schools causes traffic jam in the morning and bothering the locals

A L H A I L N O R T H The project is located in the Sultan Qaboos Highway /Seeb Street in the neighborhood of Al Hail North close to the sea. AL-Hail neighborhood is mainly residential area with mixed use commercial and residential buildings and is a low density area. The Site is next to a T-junction on the high way which has been integrated as part of the site. This is an advantage and disadvantage at the same time as the project is accessible and visible but has noise and traffic disturbances from the highway.

S i t e

l o c a t i o n

There are private farms and wadis close to the site. There are bridges for cars and pedestrian bridges nearby. The area is still developing and has a lot of potential for the future. Hence there will be more infrastructures implemented soon. There are lots of opens spaces in the region and most of the area near the sea is empty. The Wave and the airport hotel are close to the region.

The elevated park are used as the main attractive element in my design and the other function serve the elevated park, as well as the main idea of having the building enclosure the site from the high way side so, it can protect the site from noise and traffic. Also, the building it self create an united squre which will bring all types of people and they can use the communal space that created by having the curved shape of the main structure to do diffrent activities. Majority of the users of the site and the surrounding area currently are Pakistanis and Bangladeshi labourers working in the neighbourhood and some Omanis.Potential users are day workers, taxi drivers, young people and Omanis living in the neighbourhood and anybody who passes the site and are in need of the services available in the site. The demands of the site and the surrounding neighbourhood are shaded seating, greenery, entertainment spaces, coffee shops(for workers and taxi drivers) and praying spaces.
