‘Milestone’ as the name goes, this book is not just a book, it’s an archive that portrays the entire milestones achieved by the various teams of Rotaract Club of Zenith from the birth of the club (17-July-1986) till the earth is going to stop its rotation. Each and every year.’Milestone’ will be updated by the respective year reports consistently by the respective Zenith teams. Rotaract Club of Zenith started in the year 1996-1997. Charter President Rtr.Kavitha Parekh with the help of our parent club (Rotary club of Madras North East). Charter President Rtn Geetha Venkataraman made Zenith Possible for a very energetic set of Rotaractors. The Club Theme is ‘To reach the unreachable’. This Club is one of the most prestigious clubs in the Rotary International District 3230. It has produced four prospective DRR‘s for the Rotary International District 3230. We have one more DRR lined up in the year 2015-16 Rtr.Vinoth Nagarajan.

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

Exchange of ‘Milestone’ between the teams will be set as a part of agenda during the installation of the Zenith board members on every year similar to the exchange of Charter. The motto behind the creation of ‘Milestone’ is to ensure that all the team of Zenith is aware on their club’s previous accomplishments and in turn to motivate the new team formed every year to follow the path of their previous leaders and to create their own milestone. ’Self Motivation’ is the best motivation. ‘Milestone’ created by the Zenith will motivate Zenith to achieve more Milestones. More than the motivation, it will also provide ‘Self Appreciation and Recognition’. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rotary club of Madras North East, Our Past Rotaractors and Zenith members. In this juncture I would like to thank Rtr. PP Swathi for designing the cover Page, Rtr. PP Banu & Rtr. Pres. Elect Sheik who helped in collecting the information and Swaroopini she helped me in content writing. Special thanks to My Guru, My Best buddy and My brother Rtr. Pres. Deepak who always guided me and motivated to release the milestone successfully. Proud to be a Zenithian. Thanks & regards Rtr. Dear friends and well-wishers in Rotaract, I have no words to express my happiness in penning down the message for this “one of its kinds” initiative to compile the HISTORY of ZENITH. It was my dream to create a year on year secretary report book for RC Zenith. This idea came to me when I went on my first IDYE trip to Coimbatore RID 3200(then) now restructured as RID 3201. There was a club RC Saibaba colony which showed us the report of their club, which was hand written and laminated for past 3 or 5 years. It was really a piece of commitment all the club members had on their club to pass down the history year after year to their successors.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Those days I was still at college and I wanted to do the same in my college. But due to various reasons, that was not able to be done. And when RC zenith was revived we had this plan taken up but was waiting for an apt time. Last year IPP Rtr. Yuvabala took this up and wished to do this massive but innovative task of compiling a club’s history of 17 years. But last year there were some very good projects that happened and she was unable to do it to the fullest extent. But she chased her dream of doing this project and wished to complete it during this year. So we named this as “MILESTONE” since zenith is known for creating new milestones every year for itself. And started as a small way of collecting information through calls, mails, direct interviews from Rotarians, past rotaractors and past presidents, now this dream has come to reality. As promised Rtr. IPP Yuvabala was able to complete this HUGE task almost single handedly and now this has been released. She was supported by Rtr. PP Banu Priya and Rtr. Pres. Elect Sheik for compiling the information from all the sources possible. I would like to whole heartedly thank and also appreciate Rtr. IPP Yuvabala for completing this successfully and waiting to release a much bigger version in the second edition of MILESTONE with more details and information. My sincere thanks to all Rotarians from Rotary club of Madras Northeast for giving their inputs and messages for this magazine. And all past president and past members of Zenith family who was responsible for creating such a proud history of zenith. With all your support and blessing Zenith family will continue its exemplary work towards the society and keep following its motto “TO REACH THE UNREACHABLE” in a righteous way possible. Yours true in Rotaract Rtr. Deepak C. President 13-14

ROTARY PRESIDENT SPEAKS! The Rotaract Club of Zenith is a vibrant club managed by dedicated young professionals. The year 2008-09 marked the revival of the club from difficult times, under the able leadership of Rtr. Solomon Rajesh and his team. During the year they undertook various projects under different avenues of service. Some of their flagship projects - “EYE DONATION AWARENESS CAMP” & “FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM” - were novel themes, well conceived and executed. The club members actively participated in various projects of our club and District. We appreciate their sincere and active participation in Pulse Polio Immunization drive. I wish them all the best and thank them for their dedicated service for the betterment of our society. Rtn. M. Shri Kumar (President 2008-09) Rotary club of Madras North East Rotary International District 3230

It’s indeed our pleasure, as the parents of your Rotaract Club of Zenith, to review your workings during the Rotaract year 2009-10, when I was the President of Rotary Club of Madras North East and Rtr. Vinoth was the President of Rotaract Club of Zenith. We share many fond memories of that year when so much was accomplished by your young TEAM of officers, in so less a time. I know it was a defining year for Zenith after a few years of languishing behind due to many illustrious Zenithians retiring or leaving your club. It was during the Rotary year 2009-10 that Zenith made its comeback trail and what a blazing trail it was... I cannot forget the perseverance, hard work and the work ethics that your entire TEAM followed, to blaze a trail from the bottom of the pack to the front runner rank within these 12 months with confidence and your never-say-die attitude. Kudos to each and every one of you Zenithians. Close on the heels of the District Installation followed the Club installation on 9th August, 2009 at the South India Hire Purchase Hall, Royapettah in which Rtr. Vinoth was collared as the President and yours truly RC of Zenith’s Milestone - Issue 1

followed it up by installing the Board of Directors of Zenith. It was indeed a proud moment for me to do so, as the incumbent President of your parent club, Rotary Club of Madras North East. On 15th August, 2009, both of us – RC of Madras North East and Rotaract Club of Zenith, went on to celebrate the Indian Independence Day at the Irular Tribal School, Nandanam distributing sweets to the children followed by a lovely entertainment program put up by the Zenithians. Proving the old adage wrong – that youngsters are not interested in religion, Zenithians celebrated Vinayaga Chaturthi at Sevalaya, a home for the Elderly and Children of God distributing sweets and savouries to the inmates with Rotaract Club of Guru Nanak. Thereafter, Zenithians were part of IDYE trip to R.I. Dist 3202, Know-how project at Irular Tribal School in a packed October month. This was followed by the release of TURBULENCE a joint bulletin of Zenith with others regarding anti-smoking, food habits, AIDS awareness etc and had good reviews from all concerned. Rtr. Meena Srividhya won the best emerging and energetic rotaractor award for females in the conference Zenith was adjudged the best supporting club and was awarded the 2nd prize in Entertainment. A rare and distinguished honour for a club that has risen like a Phoenix from its ashes! This was followed by other laudable projects and all in all it was a wonderful Rotaract Year for Zenith under the able stewardship of Rtr. Vinoth and his capable TEAM, who have zoomed past, to reach the Zenith of Accomplishment in a short space of one year! We, as your proud parents are extremely proud and happy of your accomplishments and wish you well. May the Great Architect of the Universe bless all you Zenithians with zest, energy and synergy in all your endeavors! May you all be blessed! Rtn. V. Raveendar President RC of Madras North East -2009-10 Rotaract Club of Zenith is a very vibrant and active club in RI Dist 3230. We Rotary Club of Madras North East the parent club have a very cordial and active relationship with Zenith. I as a President had the chance to interact with most of the presidents and secretaries of zenith who cooperated with me and together we did many projects. It is with pleasure I am proud to announce that in my presidency Zenith has one more DRR. I am happy to have such a Rotaract club and more over my club R C Madras North East is proud to have such a club like zenith who has done so many projects and so many district postings. Congrats to President Rtr. Deepak and Secretary Rtr. Divya. All the best for your future. Kudos to each and every one of you Zenithians. Regards Rtn. PHF. K. M. PDRR SPEAKS! Being the founder member of zenith I always enjoyed my association to the club with privilege and status. When we formed the club, we named it as “ZENITH” with a vision that club should always strive to achieve great heights. Looking back even at this moment and comparing the current level of performance to what it used to accomplish, I’m proud to realize that it is still setting trends & high standards for other clubs to follow. I admire the contribution that each member has and is putting in to keep the club active and serve the community at its maximum. Zenith started with having a DRR since its inception and has produced many successful DRRs ever since. This club has always been a for-running in doing projects, be it at the club level or at the district. I wish and pray that this trend continues and its members will always have the courage confidence & enthusiasm to serve with love & compassion. As I’m writing this message my memories clock back to those golden days when the club members and the parent club supported my DRRship immensely. They enabled me to serve my position with dignity and honour and at the same time helped me accomplish projects that we wanted done. Some of the prime projects that were accomplished include cataract eye corrective surgery, rain water harvest, polio corrective surgery In addition to a huge annual district conference that encounter the conglomeration of over 1000 rotaractors from all over the country and outside. Apart from such major projects the club has regularly undertaken visits to orphanages, old age homes, conducted RYLA, blood donation camps, etc. All this has been possible with the support and encouragement of my fellow rotaractors and Rotarians who have relentlessly extended themselves for the cause. After all is said & done, a couple of decades hence, what remains in my mind are the freshness of those Wonderful memories for me to Reminiscence that make my heart swell with joy and fulfillment. I’m almost sure that I’m never going to outgrow the feeling of being a rotaractor! Three cheers to Zenith and its members past, present & future... Regards, PDRR. Rtr. Mohanarangan 1997-98

PDRR SPEAKS! Being a Rotaractor has been a most wonderful journey that has enriched my life in ways that cannot be quantified. I have made the best friends, learnt the most important lessons and skills, and built my selfconfidence, all from this great movement. A significant part of my tenure as a Rotaractor was with the Rotaract Club of Zenith - a club that was second home to me. I was introduced to Rotaract during my college day’s way back in the 90s. I met a few of my close pals there and once we all got done with college, we all decided to start our own community based club. This lead to the birth of the Rotaract Club of Zenith. The next decade or so saw us cross many milestones, carry out projects way beyond what we thought we could handle and grew as individuals. Once we were done with our days in Rotaract - thanks to the upper age limit of 30 - the mantle passed on to the next gen. There was a little trepidation on how they would fare, but as it turned out, they outdid us and have taken the club to the greater heights. The club has been lucky to find a continuous stream of dedicated, passionate Rotaractors who have worked selflessly to reach out to the needy. A special word of mention to the many mentors that we had in the Rotary who hand held us through our journey. I am proud to have belonged to a club that has contributed enormously to the district too. We have had many DRR’s from our club who have leaded the district very capably and have a few lined up for the future too! My warm wishes to the team at the club and good luck for the future. Cheers, PDRR Rtr. Sriram Ananth 1999-2000

DRRE SPEAKS! Dear Friends, “Every individual makes a unique journey through life. In that span of time, certain ingenious minds make their mark and create milestones” My first official message as a District Rotaract Representative 2015-16 and I cannot be more happy on the audience it will be reaching – A galaxy of Rotaractors of this wonderful RID 3230 that to like icing on the cake is addressing this message through a wonderful initiative of my home club Rotaract Club of Zenith ‘Milestone. I can proudly say that I am part of this wonderful family and I consider my designation in Rotaract is not the DRR of 2015-16 but a proud member of this wonderful club .Like the Club Theme is “To reach the unreachable” Zenithians have always tried to reach the unreachable by delivering wonderful projects year after year. The club has groomed me and made me whom I am right now. I consider myself as a fortunate Rtr to become the 5th DRR from this illustrious club, The very motive of the members of Zenith is to always go the extra mile and always go beyond expectation and Excel in all the work they do. the Zeal to Excellance has transpired and transformed this club as one of the very strong hold club by all means I would like to thank and also congratulate Rtr. PP Yuvabala and Rtr. IPP Deepak for collecting the data and successfully to releasing the MILESTONE which is itself a milestone in the golden history of Zenith. I thank my all Rotarians from Rotary club of Madras Northeast for giving their unconditional support and my dear Zenith family members for your invaluable love and affection you all have on me. ZENITH PRESIDENTS SPEAKS! Greetings Rotaractors, Zenithians are always known for their out-of-the-box surprising content whether it is a project or DRR visits or selecting a president. Yes in Zenith the presidents are selected and not elected. It was Y2K and I was surprised when after 4 years my colleagues and senior selected me to bear and lead the torch of the new club to greater heights. Already it was at the height of the pinnacle when my dear friend PP.Rtr.Mahaveer Golecha passed on the batton to me. Rotaract gives immense opportunities to bring out the explosive caliber a person possesses. It redefines the internal personality of a person. It gives you the platform to stand courageous in front of thousands of colleagues and rotaractors. Helps in developing your intra-personal skills and what not ... it is just like watching a movie where a shy, pesissive, introvert, carefree buddy gets transformed into a bold, optimistic, extrovert and responsible citizen of India. Rotaract has given everybody a lot. And of course our club theme “To reach the unreachable” has made a statement by itself, not just for the community but for self too. In Zenith you have to continuously crop-up with interesting and innovative ideas to set a trend for other clubs to follow. That’s what the Team did. Yes...It is a fact that without the TEAM the projects would not have taken off. Zenith became the trend setters of the projects be it community based projects like Enainda Kaigal, InterClub projects like Pot-Pourri, DRR visit, Celebrations, and even giving DRR’s. Each and every Rotary Clubs in Dist 3230 and nearby districts in tamilnadu and kerala would present us as an exemplary Rotaract club to follow. I am very much grateful and humble to my team without whom I would not have got 13 trophies out of 15 (or 11 out of 13) categories at the ADM of R.I.Dist 3230. We got the best Secretary, Best Community Project, Best Club Project, Innovation..the list goes on. My regards and gratitude to my colleagues during my tenure as president - Rtr. Anbukumaran , Rtr. PP Mohan, Rtr. PDRR.Sriram Ananth, Rtr. Kumar, Rtr. PP Mahveer Golecha, Rtr. PP. Rajanish Ranka, Rtr. Rakesh Khabia, Rtr. PP Ritesh Kataria, Rtr. Ashok Dhariwal, Rtr. Gautham Aacha, Rtr. PP Sunil Bafna, Rtr. Rajesh and list continues... I am gratitude to Rotaract to bring out the best one in me. Regards Rtr. PP Hetal K. Shah

The more we invest in Rotaract, the more we are investing in ourselves. Rotaract is an experience. It’s not often that we get to learn so much while contributing in our own small way to the society. And Zenith has always been at the pinnacle of grooming young minds to a service orientation while inculcating the values and qualities for an enhanced better professional life. It has been 10 years since I first joined Zenith. Though not as active now as I would like to be, the experience and lessons from Rotaract are things that are still very much an integral part of me. Over these 10 yrs, I have seen the club go through a lot of high’s and low’s… but special kudos to the new team of young blood who has taken over the club and taken Zenith to newer greater heights. I am proud, privileged, and honored to be part of this wonderful Zenith and Rotaract family and wish us all a brilliant future. Regards Rtr. PP Vasanth

If one were to ask me to distinguish my life so far into 2 phases, I would say the first phase was before joining Rotaract and the second, the exciting phase of being a part of Rotaract and living a transformed life. My Association with Zenith & the Rotaract movement has been the most enriching and rewarding experience of my life so far. Zenith, as one of the key community clubs in the district has always focused its efforts towardsmeaningful projects. Thanks to some significant efforts of the founding members, Zenith had built a reputation for itself within the Rotaract movement. I still warmly cherish the memories and experiences we went through during the years in Rotaract. It has been a great platform to nurture organizational and social skills by way of voluntary service. There are not many institutions which can build leadership & public speaking abilities and bring transformation, even without the members realizing the change Another attribute that truly stands out @ Zenith is the Fellowship among the members of the club over the past several years. It has been fabulous to meet diverse set and make friends for life. The club in the recent years has transformed itself to be more vibrant and visible for the number of quality projects the members are able to execute. Extremely delighted to hear and see the clubs contributions to the district events and the Rotaract movement! My hearty wishes to the present and the incoming team for a great year ahead Regards, Rtr. PP. Praveen

Warm Rotaract Greetings, I take pride in delivering my write-up for this wonderful initiative of Zenith Family named “Zenith History Book”. Kudos! Rtr.Deepak, President of Zenith and Project Chairman Rtr. PP. Yuvabala. It’s been six years since we have revived this prestigious and one of the oldest clubs in R.I.District 3230 “Rotaract Cub of Zenith”. I always feel proud for being the Reviving President of Zenith. When we revived Zenith, the first thing we had in mind is to build our bonding as a team. We had our entire focus on Club Service where we felt greater things can be achieved only through a strong team with great bonding. Projects like Dhakshenchitra Visit, Birthday Celebrations, Exhibition Visit, etc. We gave zenith family a very good start up after revival and also bagged us the Best Emerging Club Award the same year. At this juncture I would like to thank all the Past Rotaractors who had been pillars of Zenith and special thanks to our Parent Club Rotary Club Of Madras North East. Rtn. Shri Kumar, President of Rotary Club of Madras North East, the same year was very friendly and gave his entire support having belief in all zenith members. Success of Zenith has been the friendship bonding we maintained throughout. Congratulations once again to Rtr. Deepak and team for bringing up this great initiative and taking Zenith’s Pride higher and higher “To Reach the Unreachable”. Regards, Rtr. Solomon Rajesh, President (2008-09) Warm Rotaract Greetings, I am very happy to pen my message as the past president for the legacy of Zenith named ‘Milestone’. There is a brilliant quote by Shannon L. Ader “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” And this quote perfectly suits this magazine. First, I congratulate Rtr. PP Yuvabala, for coming up with this amazing idea to cherish the moments of legacy. My hearty wishes to the President Rtr. Deepak Chandrasekharan, who is a role model for many Rotaractors and also for me, my best buddy for completing the year successfully. And my best wishes to Rtr. Sheik, the silent performer, our incoming President for his future endeavors. To share few words about the year 2010-11, the first thing which came into my mind before I am taking up the post as President was ‘Would I able to succeed as President?’ But, I have enjoyed my Presidentship and also moulded myself into a better person. And I thank my parents, board officials and my friends for being so RC of Zenith’s Milestone - Issue 1

supportive. We cannot express our gratitude just in few words; it takes a whole lot to thank our parent club Rotary Club of Madras North East. Thank you so much for being our backbone and your continuous support throughout the year. The best moments in Club are Zenith Talks, Kanmanigal project, Guruvanakkam, and celebrating our club members birthday and when it comes to District are Zenith’s value card in hands with District Rotaract Council which was presented to the clubs for their best project and the Zonal Rotaract Convention ‘Rejoice’ which has set a benchmark and model event. As it the name value card, the project got an extraordinary value and brought us lot of happiness, when we see it as prestigious award in other club’s project. Finally, like the icing on a cake, moment which make us all so pride and made the zenith’s flag fly high was when we received the ‘best club’ award during the awards night conducted by District Rotaract Council 10-11. Proud to be a Rotaractor, and proud to be a Zenithian! Wishing everyone happy rotaraction... Regards, Rtr. PP Swathi Sujir

Warm Rotaract greetings It gives me immense pleasure to pen my Rotaract experience as a president and member. My Rotaract career started since from Guru nanak college and continued to zenith, till now. I have come across many Rotaract events under the various leadership. All those years were learning period for me and I get to know the Rotaract movement much closer. Zenith has potential & passionate leaders who have bagged many prestigious awards and been in key District positions. I led a team of young brigade with a little experience in Rotaract, as the club president for the year 20112012. It was new experience to everyone on board with full of young energy. Our team saw lot of new people taking up and leading new projects in that year. Fest – in, revival of Ek, Fire safety management, later comer awards, eye donation & blood donation camp, pulse polio and many more projects were executed by our members in that year. We had ups & down, but we stayed together and overcome the challenges in front of us. In my president year (2011- 2012) our club bagged 13 Awards which is highest number of awards bagged in any year. All the credits go to my Year secretary (sheik Abdullah) and my year vice president (Yuvabala). Both have served their responsibilities more than I asked for and it was supported by other members as well for that mile stone year. I would like to share few words to members and future leaders, postings are not permanent. Learn and excel in whichever position you hold. Understand Rotaract movement is a continuous cycle, you there are not it will keep moving and people will keep filling up your position. So enjoy, learn and grow as team. (I know everything) attitude, leave your Qualification background outside, stay grounded, don’t let down your own members, don’t ill-treat, respect everyone, allow them to make mistakes and learn from mistakes, acknowledge the members good work, delete the member bad work. I thank all the members who gave me the opportunity to serve me as president for the prestigious club. Leader is not valued by experience or Number of award won, its valued by the quality people around him. Be happy and enjoy the moment. Thanks Rtr. PP Aravind Warm Rotaract Greetings, First as a rotaractor I am proud to be a part of Zenith Club. Though I have been president of college based club, being a president of community based club it’s a wonderful opportunity given by Rotaract club of Zenith for which iam obliged this club always. In my Presidentship tenure we conducted projects like Speakers Meet, Jollyathane, Kanmanigal, Zenith talks, Know How, Enaintha Kaigal Project – Women safety and empowerment. We hosted a District Upcountry RYLA in Yelagiri. It’s a first time in district conducting a RYLA for upcountry Rotaractors. We got a good response and feedback from the rotaractors. Sharing about the Milestone experience it’s very important to know to our History that’s the reason we came forward to create a History book. When the past presidents shared their experience to us we feel it’s a wonderful experience. I am happy to share that we bagged 12 awards in District Award Ceremony. I would like to thank our Parent club Rotary of Madras North east who for being a pillar of the support for us. Also I would like to thank our Past Rotaractors for their continuous support. I also would like to thank each and every member from Zenith Family for tremendous support in my year. Once again thanks to all for their wonderful support. Proud to be a Zenithian… Regards Rtr. The year of 2013-14 will be considered as one of the important year in Zenith’s history merely because of the fact that we had very key achievements this year unlike most of the past years. This year a DRR was elected from our club after a long time gap. Rtr.PP.Vinoth was announced as the DRR for the year 2015-16. And the first edition of this prestigious history book “milestone” was released during this year. The president collar was given a new look with all the PAST PRESIDENTS name being pinned on to the collar. There were two events chairperson, ADRR, Directory chairman, Group coordinator, two Group Rotaract Representatives, Community service director in the DRC 13-14. We had the opportunity to witness, organize and be a part of RI presidential conference on NEW GENERATION “We are the change”. And many of the Zenith members were the key coordinators to organize events. Two event coordinators, Head for creative and design, backstage head and programs team member, Shiksha coordinators and two registration committee members. Apart from that, we had the privilege of introducing the first CLUB ASSEMBLY – ZEAL by a Rotaract club in RID 3230. Our ongoing project “ENAINTHA KAIGAL” was done for cancer awareness and we were able to reach a few thousands of people to create awareness. The primary focus was on team bonding and development. So we introduced project like VAANGA PAZHAGALAAM to get a good team bonding and to impart knowledge to other clubs on the functioning of club. VITAL and KINSHIP was also the projects of the same kind to make club understand the basics of Rotaract. Membership was also a focus and we are having a good balanced team this year waiting to explore opportunity and do good service to society. Wish to see many more editions of MILESTONE. It will be cherish able moment with all meetings, projects, discussions, fellowships that had happened for one long year. Looking back at the end of one year, this journey will be remembered and good memories will lay deep inside the heart forever. True in Rotaract Rtr. Deepak
