Profile University of Bath Graduate. Very hard-working, motivated and multi-skilled graduate who is not afraid of challenges and willing to apply developed skills and knowledge. Having experienced both working on university group projects with engineers as well as in teams during my placements, I have developed an ability to work equally well on collaborative projects as well as autonomously with a minimum management oversight. During the team projects I am often acting as a ‘conceptual artist’ - coming up with initial ideas and concept design. Throughout the project I am then creating presentation material such as plans and visualizations. Moreover, due to the nature of my previous placements I am also often producing detailed design and structural diagrams. Having both UK and Ukrainian architectural connections with leading practices and freelancers, I am aiming to utilize them in the future in order to expand the international architectural possibilities.

Work experience Yabsley Stevens Architects, Architect Assistant

Paid

United Kingdom

May - September 2019

Worked across 0-5 stages of the RIBA 2013 work plan. I was also able to singlehandedly deliver the project from the start (meeting the client, developing brief and producing a concept design) to the planning submission (preparing drawings for construction), with a mere supervision of the director. I was responsible for outlining briefs and plan the project by creating work schedules, as well as update them based on unexpected changes. Being involved in numerous client meeting and site visits I was able to learn about professional ethics, discipline and the importance of duty of care. By participating in discussions, I have also learnt the value of integrity within a team, as well as the power of correct communication and presentation strategy. POW Architects, Architect Assistant

Paid

May - August 2018

Was mainly involved in the technical side of project, creating AutoCAD drawings for construction. I was personally responsible for delivering two residential masterplans, developing them from RIBA Stage 2 (concept design) to RIBA Stage 3-4 (ready for construction on site). Due to the small size of the architectural practice I was working autonomously with a minimum management oversight. I have learnt how to gain and coordinate suppliers/contractors information, as well as implement their suggestions and changes in the drawings without drastically changing the design. Constantly producing accommodation schemes and constantly trying to merge the creative and rational ideas with the strict budget. Was asked to continue working on the graduate payroll, however decided to continue studies in the University of Bath. SANDS Architects, Architect Assistant

Ukraine

August - September 2017

Working with one of the leading Ukrainian architectural practices I gained a vital knowledge about large construction projects. My role involved solving planning problems, by having a fresh look on excising projects. By being initiative I was able to visit client meetings; work on a smaller scale projects with contractors. I was given an opportunity to singlehandedly start a design for a part of children’s community center, creating construction drawings in the end. I was also constantly helping the team with smaller tasks, such as sorting out construction plans and organizing documents. Architect Assistant

August 2015

By working in a small-sized private architectural practice I was able to go on a few site visits, watching how small scale residential projects are being developed and built. By communicating with the client, and visiting the site I was able to do landscaping around the house, which improved my understanding of unity of interior and exterior spaces, as well as negotiation of the design with the client. Interior Designer Assistant

August 2014

Working with a private interior designer I gained initial 3ds Max skills, established attention to details as well as learned the hierarchy and relationship of spaces. I was able to go on several site visits, learned how to take measures on site as well as how to work with contractors and suppliers.

Mutatio Final year project at the University of Bath. The proposal is for a new school which aims to challenge the current concept of teaching ART, MUSIC and BALLET, by subverting the idea that each creative area has to be taught in isolation. The school uses all the three mediums to bring the diversity of knowledge and experience into the existing teaching environment.

Four key principals are followed through the scheme: the Light, defining territories; the Beacon, attracting visitors; the concept of Flexibility; and the notion of Interconnected Spaces. Seamless visual and physical interconnections among Art, Music and Ballet sectors result in the formation of a vibrant community. The building is intended to be used by citizens as well and operate for the majority of the day, allowing an occasional passerby to enjoy the facilities and wander through the architecture as if it is a part of their neighbourhood.

Basil Spence A joint project with engineers. The main theme was related to creating a FLAGSHIP building which would showcase ‘aerospace’. I came up with the initial concept of the tower as a main exhibition pavilion. Featuring true hyperbolic timber-frame structure, which encompasses primary vertical exhibition space, with a series of presentation rooms revolving around it. Double helix stair in the tower works in tandem with special lifts, enhancing visitors’ experience. Having a very public entrance building also acts as a social hub for the citizens.

Venetian Fields The project which explores the crucial influence of the particular time and place on the contemporary architecture. During the development of this complex I have learnt how careful the new building has to be on order to not disturb sometimes fragile historic settings.

A Bridge A joint project with engineers. This projects explores the importance of time and cultural influences of the particular area on the building. The combination of a new-built complex with a park was our main idea in order to bring two sides of the canal together as well as to inspire the regeneration of that area. Working alongside engineers was an incredibly beneficial experience, as it helped to solve several structural difficulties, pushed the idea further, showing the essential integrity between engineering and architecture.

Medical Centre A project located in Bath. The brief was to create a Medical Centre facility which will thoroughly address the surrounding context. I decided to create a court-yard type building, where spaces were carefully divided by public and private sectors, providing separate entrances for staff and patients. General permeability of the building allowed for clear views onto the river from the entrance. Roof hierarchy distinguished the entrance and primary facade from the rest of the spaces.

Theatre Another project called the Theatre. The main idea was to create a unity between the surrounding landscape and the building, both visually (for passersby) and spatially (for visitors). Hence the semi-public central space.

Images on the left Here is a series of plans and elevations exploring a concept of a building being one with its environment, as its design was mainly informed by a site’s features.

Papilio A project about exhibition center for architecture department, which will be occupied on the open day at the University. This project fulfilled my knowledge about metal structures and application of such material, as well as gave fundamental understanding of steel frame construction and material connections. At such a small scale I have analyzed key spaces and relationship of building with the context.

Top left image - 1:50 plan, with emphasis on walls’ angles. The exhibition space is positioned on the river. Bottom left image - Elevation, showing the nature of the walls. With such an open structure people will be able to view the surrounding landscape, as well as exhibition inside will attract members of general public walking past the pavilion. Image on the right - A 1:50 model, showing juxtaposition of enclosed and translucent facades.

Pot A small project dedicated to exhibition space for a pot. The idea was to create a place which will define and multiply the features of a given object, as well as transfer its identity trough the atmosphere inside the place. First individual project, where I improved time management and hand drawing skills. Moreover, learned the basis of construction on site.

Daidala

Summer project

A collaborative project with engineers, which focused on creating a model expressing weightlessness.

Developed during the Bartlett summer course was a major collaborative project with other architects. On the completion of it I developed an initial understanding of a variety of materials, how to experiment with shape and build a structure which is responsive to weather and certain environment.

Having built this model in real life, I learned about the nature of materials, type of connections, as well as gained valuable knowledge about working in a team.

Other interests Painting I could not imagine architecture without art, as it is my main inspiration. Therefore I simultaneously paint and explore different styles in art. Bottom left image - ‘Kate’. Portrait, acrylics on canvas, 1mx1m. Bottom right image ‘Kharkiv’. Architecture of my city from 1980s. Soft pastels.
