One KX Summer Photography School

Sound & Music for Screen

Two weeks of innovative photography where you’ll work with professional photographers and curators to produce a creative exhibition. Your work may be displayed at One KX and be exhibited at this year’s Bloomsbury Festival. As part of the project you will go on trips to exhibitions, learn basic Digital SLR photography skills, Photoshop and curating.

If you have an interest in sound and music for film or television and wish to work with a professional composer then this is the course for you. You don’t have to be an expert in either music or filmmaking to participate – simply be creative and willing to learn. You’ll be taught how to plan a soundtrack using industry standard techniques, given the technical skills to capture the perfect sound and music, master editing practices and finally produce your very own new score for an existing film.

We’ll help but you will take the lead in this project and will receive a qualification to recognise your new-found knowledge. Equipment will be supplied but if you have your own camera please bring it along with you. For more information email steven.byrne@ytouring.org.uk or find our brief at ideastap.com

The project is in partnership with award-winning composer Alexander Parsons. To take part you must be an IdeasTap member. To join, for free, visit ideastap.com For more information please email steven.byrne@ytouring.org.uk or find the brief at ideastap.com

Stop Motion Film Course with Chocolate Films Bring food to life with this stop motion film course. One KX and Chocolate Films will run a hands-on stop motion animation workshop over four days with a group of 15 young people. The theme of the project will be ‘food’. You will be asked to develop and create a short animation about food - be it your favourite food, where your food comes from, the problems of obesity and overeating, or whatever takes your creative fancy. Utilising 2D and 3D materials, the workshops will culminate in a series of short stop-motion animations made by you and facilitated by professional filmmakers. One KX Go-Kart Maintenance

Bring Me to Life: Film Project with Chocolate Films

Time to put down the games console controller, give Mario Kart a rest and get your hands on the real thing! This week-long course will take you through all the basic skills behind Go-Kart maintenance, including servicing the vehicle, carrying out safety checks and the mechanics behind how Go-Karts work.

Be a professional filmmaker, actor and animator for a week, turning your ideas into a digital reality. Working with professionals from Chocolate Films, you’ll use the latest digital professional filmmaking equipment to ultimately show off your work at the CSU film festival at the British Museum on Friday 30 August. You will learn the skills for story creation and development, scriptwriting, animation, acting, directing, producing, production design, camera work and sound skills through to the final edit.

An experienced kart mechanic will teach you how to ensure your kart performs at an optimum level and at maximum safety. The course finishes with a visit to an open track to see which teams’ kart performs the best. All tools and protective clothing will be supplied. For more information please email steven.byrne@ytouring.org.uk

On the first day, you will visit Blythe House in Kensington, Olympia, where you will be introduced to some of the Wellcome Trust's collection. Script Writing

Emergency First Aid with British Red Cross

Have you ever analysed, celebrated or winced at lines you’ve heard someone speak in a film, TV series or play? Are you tired of hearing people quoting lines and want to come up with a few of your own? On this course, you will be able to develop your ideas into scripts whilst learning about how to write for different mediums (TV, film, theatre, and radio) and in different genres.

How would you react if you saw an accident? Do you have the skills and knowledge that could save someone’s life? This emergency first aid class covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of first aid training. If you pass the course, you will receive a nationally-recognised certificate in emergency first aid from the Red Cross which you can add to your CV.

You will dissect scripts, assessing what makes a successful one. If you’re sharp-eared, script aware and prone to daydreaming in dialogue, then sign up and turn those inner-dialogues into something real. All the best writers will tell you it all started with an idea, so put yours to paper.
