Mah-jong

T

he Mah-jong group started at Club Fleurieu in September 2013. Presently we have 16 players. Members of the group believe the key to living longer is to keep busy and participate in mind-stimulating activities like the Chinese game of Mah-jong. A Mah-jong Marathon was held at the Club from 10am to 4pm in September 2018. This was enjoyed by all who participated. The Western version of Mah-jong is played weekly on Mondays from 2 to 4pm. It’s a social and fun afternoon to keep the brain ticking! Sheila, Rosie, Janet & Annie at the Mahjong Marathon

n October our member artist Rita Iexhibition Baxter will have a special in the foyer of Gallery 88.

Rita is an enthusiastic self taught artist who not only paints but ventures out into jewellery and glasswork as well. Besides the visual arts she even writes short stories and has written and illustrated a children's book. Rita paints in oils, acrylics, watercolour and pastels. She mostly gets her inspiration from nature. Rita's glasswork is a colourful new direction in her artistic journey. Participating in a workshop from Gallery 88 - artist Jacqui Weber inspired her to create a beautiful range of fused glass plates, bowls, pendants, rings and other artifacts. While she continues painting and fusing glass, Rita has even started to work with silver. We look forward to showcasing the diversity of art- and craft works from this versatile artist. Gallery 88 represents a community based Art Collective of 14 local artists and is located at 88 Main Street, Yankalilla. Opening times: 11.00am-4.00pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and on all school and public holidays. For more information: Marilyn Jelfs: 8558 2456 or 0416 150 413 Betty Wolf: 8598 4141 or 0428 778 123
