back to fill the whole house with fresh air when the weather is right. A pyramid-shaped skylight brings in even more light to a grand but still intimate space that is more than 60 feet long. Furnished with classics of modern furniture, and impeccably detailed, the home boasts a collection of modern art that ranges from Rauschenberg to prominent local artists. “It’s modern but not monastic modern,” notes Hunsberger, and indeed, it’s full of color and interesting objects — and a surprise or two. Check out the shower in the master bath. As you ascend the stairway to the second floor — careful, there’s no railing — you realize that the glass wall at the top of the landing is actually one side of the big walk-in shower. It’s a touch of Fire Island hedonism that suits the house perfectly. Sadly, Partridge died in 2014 at the untimely age of 52. He is
sorely missed by the local arts and music community. One of his legacies is a concerto for the tuba that he commissioned from composer David Carlson. The work had its Sarasota premiere in September 2015, to great acclaim and rave reviews. Partridge’s other legacy is his home. “It was definitely Jon’s house,” Hunsberger says. But Hunsberger did get his tuba studio. One of the guest rooms is now a dedicated rehearsal room, where Baxter, the standard poodle listens — “along with most of the neighborhood.” It’s a fitting reminder of how art and music can combine to produce a timeless, tranquil environment. The home at 1833 N. Lake Shore Drive is priced at $1.5 million. Call Kim Ogilvie, of Michael Saunders & Co., at 376-1717.
The rear of the home shows off the two-story section that architect Jack West added in 2000. It contains the living room and master bedroom.
A swimming pool and courtyard, located at the front of the home, were also added during the renovation.
