Government trading cards a big hit
Who knows if a Marlon Brown rookie card might some day rise to the value of a Pete Rose or Ken Griffey Jr., but locals who enjoy collecting can soon begin testing the market with trading cards of city, town and county staffers and elected officials. A new line of governmentpersonnel trading cards are reaching the market now, with fever-pitch anticipation. A package of six cards is $3.50. No bubble gum is included.

Haiku for SRQ contest will replace graffiti
City literary leaders, hoping to replace graffiti around town with uplifting messages, have proposed a contest called Haiku for SRQ. Up to a dozen verses in the classic three-line format of five, seven and five syllables will be chosen as winners and painted over the most offensive graffiti on city walls, bridges and other facilities. Local poets are encouraged to rely on themes that would connect with residents and visitors and portray the city in a “positive way.”
