“Art is a visual language. It’s a way to think, a way to see the world and understand the world, which is different from words,” Kurt Wenner says. “That was my greatest motivation — art was a way for me to understand the world.”

Chalk of the Town Kurt Wenner was the only 3-D chalk artist when he began in the early ’80s. Although he helped initiate most of the world’s first chalk festivals, he hasn’t contributed major art to one since 1995 — that is, until this year’s fifth annual Sarasota Chalk Festival.
