Student Success at LI Science & Engineering Fair

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is proud to announce the achievements of three of its students at the Long Island Science & Engineering Fair.

Chris Prainito of John F. Kennedy High School earned first place in the LISEF for his project, “Development of a Polydiacetylene-Based Paper Biosensor for Naked-Eye Detection of COVID-19 in Saliva.” The 12th grader will be traveling to Georgia May 7-13 to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Kennedy’s Michelle Brown, 12th grade, earned an honorable mention medal for her project, “The Concurrent Effects of Metformin and Dietary Restriction on Parkinson’s Disease in a Drosophila melanogaster Mode.”

Sanford H. Calhoun High School senior Julie Moehringer also earned honorable mention for her project, “Retinal Ganglion Cell Functional Recovery After Intraocular Pressure Lowering Treatment Using Prostaglandin Analogs in Glaucoma Suspects.”
