McDonough Honors Woman of Distinction

Assemblyman Dave McDonough recently held his annual Women of Distinction ceremony to honor local women from around the district for their contributions to the community. The Woman of Distinction award is given to women who are active in the community and through their contributions make the area a better place for all to live. Each year Assemblyman McDonough invites the community to nominate a woman who is known for contributing to our quality of life. Nominations are made by submitting a written explanation to Assemblyman McDonough’s District office (404 Bedford Avenue, Bellmore) explaining why you think your nominee deserves to be a recipient. Awards are given in the category of business, education, humanitarian, military affairs, community/civic affairs, health care, government and volunteerism.

“This community is beyond grateful and indebted to these women for the work they have done throughout their lives to serve others,” said McDonough. “In addition to their successful professional careers, these women have embodied the spirit of selflessness and service to others. This ceremony is a means of recognizing their achievements and thanking them for their service to their community and neighbors.”

This years honorees were invited to celebrate their accomplishments at a formal ceremony on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Merrick Golf Course Clubhouse where family, friends and community members came out to support the Woman of Distinction recipients. Each award recipient received a personalized framed proclamation recognizing and honoring them as women who dedicated their lives to inspiring others and improving their community, and whose character and achievements exemplify the ideas and values cherished by our state and nation.

McDonough said, “Hosting the annual Women of Distinction event continues to be among my favorite community outreach events because it is an example of the countless stories of inspiration all around us every day. We all live busy lives in today’s world, but it’s taking a moment to reflect and count our blessings and remember how truly grateful we are to live in a society filled with such outstanding people that really makes the difference. I am so appreciative of everyone who has taken time to nominate one of these wonderful, generous women and also our community is indebted to these women who are truly the best of what we are. They are aspirational in every sense: leaders, civically-engaged, community-minded, positive-spirit, generous in nature — we thank all of you for your many contributions to making our community home. It wouldn’t be home without you.”
